Who, The - Detour Lyrics

(Detour, detour)
Ooh, we got to make a detour
(Detour, detour)

The people try to crash land down
Shoot at the sky, a craze with rage
We're all good people if you go deep down
But we gotta be in keeping with the brand new age

Time for a detour
We oughta take the curve (Detour now)
Taking the detour
It's time for a swerve (Detour now)

The world's in a spin now
It's time for a change
We know we can win now
We'll share the weight, we cause no pain
We can't explain, we lost the force, we went off course

Ooh, we need a detour (Detour)
(Detour)
With a curve and a swerve (Detour)
Mmm, detour (Detour)

Forget that flaw from back in the days
And the power we sought as we took the stage
Made it 15 years till we found our ways
Our election fears as we turn the page

Gotta take a detour
The road is blocked (Detour now)
Time for a detour
Ooh, the gates are locked (Detour now)

We're finally tracking in the path of the groove
We're willingly backing the path of the moon
There'll be no more pain
We can't explain, we found the force, we're back on course

We need a detour (Detour)
Gonna have to make a detour (Detour)
Oh, with a curve and a swerve (Detour)
(Detour)

Used to say I love you but I was straight insane
I always left you holding the weight of my pain
'Cause I can't stay for even one more day
I broke two hearts, I couldn't share the plots
Then I ran away

People try to crash land down
Shoot at the sky, a craze with rage
We're all good people if you go deep down
But we gotta be in keeping with the brand new age

Time for a detour
We gotta take the curve (Detour now)
Making the detour
It's time for a swerve (Detour now)

The world's in a spinnin'
It's time for a change
We know we ain't winning
We share the weight
We cause no pain, we can't explain
We lost the force, we went off course

Ooh, we need a detour (Detour)
Oh, I got to have a detour (Detour)
Oh, with a curve and a swerve (Detour)
Ooh, we need a detour (Detour)

(Detour) Take a curve and a swerve
(Detour)
(Detour)
We need a detour (Detour)

Who, The Detour Comments
  1. G.... C....

Touch of class here. Class being the operative word

  2. J.... B....

Hay XM radio why aren't you playing any of this? Jim Ladd?

  3. S.... ....

    Not impressed.

  4. d.... W....

    Wow. This one be rockin

  5. s.... ....

Wont get fooled again at the end. Pretty good effort. Singing and guitar super cool, as ever.

  6. C.... D....

    Eternos!!

  7. .... ....

I found this song in Taco Bell
The owner might have good sense of music...

  8. r.... ....

A modern day feel of cry if you want.

  9. J.... ....

My favorite song off this outstanding album.

  10. J.... A....

    ¡! :)

  11. J.... D....

    Great song.

  12. b.... ....

Are the lyrics "We share the weight," "We Share the wage," or "We share the ways?" I've seen different lyric sites state each one of these. Can get very different meanings depending on which it is. Just curious if anyone knows. Obviously the album didn't come with a lyric sheet, otherwise I'd not be asking.

  13. R.... R....

Magic Bus riff in the chorus? Excellent tune, excellent album. You can almost picture John and Keith there with them. Be lucky Roger & Pete!

  14. B.... E....

I mean, he sings "People try...." This song would be great live, melding into "My Generation"!!

  15. a.... s....

    whos better, whos still best.

  16. H.... H....

Shades of wrist band, a Paul Simon song and Magic bus of course
It’s growing more and more on me

  17. t.... ....

Woeful album from a band whose last decent album came out in 1975

  18. K.... R....

They've always been the best at their craft - and this is an amazing reminder of just that.

  19. m.... ....

    ⭐️⭐️🎸

  20. i.... b....

number 3 in the LP charts. This 70 year old has got an extra spring in his step.

  21. J.... D....

    Great Song!!

  22. M.... P....

Lenny your a wonderful artist, but a que from the working class. Your ads come off as pretention. Just my two cents. Best.

  23. M.... C....

High Numbers - The Detours - The Who, Solid Album great song Dude Love it!! Neil, does this inspire you to write? Eddie will you consider double billing in a Amsterdam?

  24. p.... ....

Does no-one else hear the autotune on Daltrey's voice?

    p.... ....

periurban no. I can on the backing vocals though.

  25. E.... ....

    Love the bass.

  26. a.... n....

The Who New Album Is A Fantastic Wonderful Masterpiece And They Hit A Grand Slam Homerun. They Are The Greatest Rock Band Of All Time.

  27. R.... B....

F@¢#n Love this song! Very “The Who” :) once more into the breach fellas! Thank you for everything you created. You are a world treasure! ...I always considered The Who to be maybe not quite “punk” but definitely the first pre-punk band that inspired Iggy Pop and Ramones possibly. They are and have always been punk to me.

  28. M.... B....

The number one graduate from the Keith Moon school of drumming is Zak Starkey

    M.... B....

yes buT MOON IS A TRILLION TIMES FASTER!!

    M.... B....

Zak really adds a lot to this album, he bashes them drums like Keith did so many moons ago.

  29. D.... T....

    Magic Bus!

  30. M.... l....

this song is definately fantastic...hell i am remembered to keith with this song

  31. m.... ....

Ok, I have listened to the Who since 68, fly to multiple concerts per tour, and probably have 10,000 plus hours listening to their music over the past 50 years. I just listened to this song 5 times in a row because it's so damn good and so original. Sure it sounds like Pete Townshend wrote it, and of course he reuses elements that have worked in the past. Do you read just one Tom Clancy or Hemingway novel? All artists have a style that is recognizable. So to all the know nothing non-Who fans, if this isn't original music, then just move on. If you want to listen to something modern then type "Sir Mashup" into the box above for some idea of modern original pop and country. Pete Townshend and people like Billy Corgan are contemporary musical geniuses on par with Mozart and Beethoven, if you don't get that, well too bad for you.

    m.... ....

Two thumbs way up. Keep rockin brother!

    m.... ....

    msromike 😂😂😂😂🤯

    m.... ....

100% agree! Im love Billy Corgan too

    m.... ....

You want that familiar sound. It wouldn't be the who otherwise.
    It's like coming home.

    m.... ....

@Allan Marwood yes. My dream bucket list came true last May 🙌 I finally saw my heroes and they blew my mind as I expected😜🎇

  32. K.... S....

I'm a massive Who fan and I have to say this material is worlds better than anything else out there right now. I'm so pleased they pulled this off at this late in the game. Between Townshend's writing and Daltry's voice, it doesn't get any better.

  33. .... M....

    We are waiting in POLAND!!!

  34. .... M....

    WoW!!!!!!!!!! Just great!!!!!

  35. G.... S....

    Magic Bus 2.0

  36. S.... A....

Am I the only one who thinks Roger Daltrey sounds incredible for his age? Not too different from the 70s and 80s. He sounds more or less the same.

    S.... A....

periurban Maybe some help here and there but I saw them live a few months ago and he sounded fantastic.

    S.... A....

@Scott Anders They can use autotune live too, but I think it's fair enough when a singer gets on in years. I just get a bit fed up with people saying how great a singer is when quite clearly they require a good deal of help.

    S.... A....

periurban I did notice that his voice on this album sounds very "produced" but still just as powerful as ever. Still belting it out like always

    S.... A....

To me, he sounds like Face Dances Daltrey. Incredible. I picture him wearing the scarf on their Don't Let Go The Coat video.

    S.... A....

I totally agree. He sounds breathtaking. I think he's come back from problems that may have plagued him around the time of Endless Wire. He sounds worlds better now.

  37. s.... a....

Magic Bus 2. Not complaining though.

  38. E.... T....

Too early to form a solid opinion.so far is not the best since quadrophenia. I like who are you much better. After a few listens I may change my mind but I seriously doubt it is going to surpass who are you in my mind. the only thing I know for sure is it beats the hell out of that piece of garbage endless wire.

    E.... T....

Yes, I have only listened to half of the new tracks once and this is the only one that stood out to me, but its v early days, as I am a bit of a Who fool in finding something to like in most of their stuff. They usually grow on me, but on first listening, I am indifferent to the ones I've heard so far, which from my pov is interesting. I'll see I suppose. Apart from Endless Wire, all other Who albums had Jon Entwistle on them and although these are valiant efforts, Jon's playing, influence is missing here! Sorry to say!

  39. W.... ....

I Like Every Song I have heard, This one reminds me of "New Song" to me the Message is very Simpler.

  40. B.... O....

Love it... so much like the Relay..

  41. f.... g....

    Bof!!!!! Boring....

  42. L.... C....

This one comes from "Magic Bus"..."I write the same old songs again and again"..

    L.... C....

The main riff is, but that bridge changes it entirety, it’s 🔥. Long live The WHO.

  43. T.... D....

Unpopular opinion but this might be the best who album ever

    T.... D....

Every song is good, and after every listen they get better and better, more classic.

    T.... D....

Considering their last records to sound like this were almost FIFTY years ago, I'd say you hit it on the head. How the hell Daltry pulled this off is beyond me. (Listen to currant Paul McCartney and you'll know what I mean.) Pete's tone and playing were never better. Miraculous!

  44. A.... G....

this album shall be never forgotten because its a damn quite good album

  45. J.... O....

Like hearing from an old friend. The Who ! Second to none!

    J.... O....

    Lutely of abso!

  46. A.... ....

Mymymymy GGGGGeneration THE WHO 1965/2019 !

  47. P.... J....

    Great song,album and band.

  48. A.... Z....

I think Daltrey sounds great. It doesn't sound like the 70's to me but still nonetheless enjoyable. I think it's their best album since Who's Next?

    A.... Z....

Quadrophenia, Who By Numbers and even Who Are You would like a word...

    A.... Z....

Who by Numbers I thought was weak back in the day. Bought the remaster of it wow. By Numbers is great. This WHO album is among their best. In my world all Who albums are great.

    A.... Z....

    Quadrophenia stands out

  49. b.... ....

I'm loving this little ditty!  Kind of a Relay/Magic Bus vibe to it.

    b.... ....

It does have a Relay feel. Wouldn't you prefer they write something original? ... with a chorus that fits in the song?

    b.... ....

With a bit of Sally Simpson from Tommy

    b.... ....

@Jack Knight I'll go back and listen for that. Thank you.

    b.... ....

    @Jack Knight Yes!

  50. M.... ....

Resurrected from the grave : great album!

  51. C.... S....

Rodger can't sing very well anymore. His pitch has got worse over the years. Also don't like the use of the old Who sound in this. John and Keith were The Who and Pete needs to get away from that legacy.

    C.... S....

I think he sounds very good for his age. No one has the same chops when they get old, including Roger, but look at how McCartney, Elton John, Bob Dylan (notably) sound these days. And many more.

    C.... S....

"Also don't like the use of the old Who sound in this. John and Keith were The Who and Pete needs to get away from that legacy."

I had a second listen and I hear what you mean. I heard Dr. Jimmy in one of the verses.

This just reinforces for me how petty an effort this is because all of Pete's solo work is far better ... including Scoop.

    C.... S....

I actually like how they use the classic Who sound in this album. There are a few modern elements here and there too, but the album isn’t full of those to the point where you can’t recognize them as The Who. Well done guys!

    C.... S....

@codjh9 And also considering Roger has had multiple vocal cord/throat surgeries, the most recent a couple of weeks ago just after the ceremony for the Camden walk of fame. I wish him a good recovery.

    C.... S....

Please let me know what 75 y/o rock singer is better?

  52. P.... C....

    This is not very good.

  53. p.... ....

Fantastic rocker!!! Woot Woot! Oh wait, I mean, "Who Who!" :)

  54. v.... ....

This album has made my year...

    v.... ....

Indeed! When I saw The Who at Fenway Park this past September where Pete was wearing a red boilermaker suit (like the white ones he wore at concerts in the early 70's)....I didn't think that could be beat. But this album has made my year too!!!

    v.... ....

bostonwhofan Pete and Roger have outdone themselves. I feel if Keith and John we’re still with us, this would be close to what they would sound like. Detour sounds like classic WHO and Rockin In Rage sounds like it could’ve been on Quadrophenia. Long live The mighty WHO!!!

  55. F.... p....

The bass playing on this song is pretty good. Not to John Entwistle's level, but it's pretty good stuff. I'm liking this album so far.

    F.... p....

@WVMN Pino in a good fucking bass player. Pete believes he's better than the Ox.

    F.... p....

@D B JOHN with his lanky fingers is much tastier and miles faster than the current bassist,,,,,,,,,,,but the current bassist is doing a damn good job,,,,,,but he
     aint no JOHN.......

    F.... p....

@MERRYJERRYL I'm personally not comparing the two in who is better... Entwistle is good for his obvious reasons, and Paladino is considered one of the greatest session bassists.

    F.... p....

@D B : Ox is the best, sorry my opinion.

    F.... p....

@Johann Berchtold No need to be sorry. I like the Ox too. The thing is, trying to compare art just doesn't work, and it's unneeded unless you are trying to play the exact same thing.

  56. T.... W....

    A new Who classic!

  57. J.... B....

Great music here by The Who! Makes me think of The Magic Bus at times! This Who album needs to be respected and played on the damn radio! Move over The Who is back better than ever!

    J.... B....

@Joseph Smith dont call people dumb or morons because they dont like the album ... everybody has different taste .. I personally think this is a Pete/Rachel album with a songwriting effort from Simon that sounds exactly like Wake me Up the pop song .. right down to the melody..
If you like it fine.. very happy for you but to say better than ever is a bit of an overstatement I've listened to this album quite a few times now and in MY opinion it sucks and is my most disliked album so far.. Not on par with any other Who music and I'm surprised Roger even agreed to sing on it...

Autotune.. Pete attempting to Rap... Rachels Orchestra ... Simons attempt at rewriting Wake me up .. Not enough Zak.. No John ... songs dont seem to have any solid progression and theme..
I dont like it one bit... but hey in least we got a decent Roger Daltrey album with Pete playing guitar on it.. Rog still knows how to rock

    J.... B....

@Peter Moglione Lair of the Mastermind is right on, I couldn't have said it any better!

    J.... B....

    Hi.yes.I agree.this cut.reminds me. Of. Magic bus.I like it.the old.boys.still got.it

    J.... B....

I agree with all you say...lair of the mastermind!!
....cause you speak "in facts".........THE ALBUMS WHo's next............TOMMY...and ..QUAD.......... BLOW this away.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,,,you said "IT'S SHIT"" (seemed strong at first).....but its accurate ....THE PRIOR MATERIAL IS ...a totally different world......especially because there is no MOON....NO MOON no WHO!!??...........AND NO JOHN,,,,,,,,WITHOUT JOHN THERE IS NO WHO....... ON this album

............THE WHOLE IMAGE OF THE YOUNG ADONIS COLORFULLY SEXILY DRESSED AND FAST ON STAGE MOVEMENTS OF DALTREY ARE MINIMIZED DUE TO DALTREY'S AGE

PETE PLAYS GOOD NOW ...............BUT 1968 THUR 1971 IS A MILLION TIME BETTER based on music specs

but truthfully speaking .. TO BE FAIR AND FACTUAL............THE WHO AT THE PRESENT TIME ....ARE STILL PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............ANS SOUND LIKE THE WHO FROM 1980'S A LITTLE.......LOTS OF SPIRIT,,...THE WHO ARE GIVING IT ONE LAST HARRAH,,,.......AND THEY ARE GOING OUT STRONG ALL CONSIDERING!!!!

    ...........

    J.... B....

Everyone is forming an opinion of someone or something. Your opinion of the album, my opinion about you and anyone else who I feel like dumping on. Get it!

  58. N.... I....

Love The Who. *BEST BAND OF ALL TIME*

  59. M.... T....

    I like this 60th vibe🎸they still got it✊🏼🎯

    M.... T....

? (What song do you mean?)

    M.... T....

    Randy Zeitman over the rainbow❓❗️⁉️‼️❓

    M.... T....

@Major Tom What does over the rainbow mean.

    M.... T....

Randy Zeitman what do you think?

    M.... T....

@Major Tom No idea what you're talking about.

  60. A.... L....

other of my fav of this album, Gran pezzo, tosto! Immortali!

    A.... L....

Quest'album è sopra ogni aspettativa. Grandissimi!!!
