Who, The - Another Tricky Day Lyrics

You can't always get it
When you really want it
You can't always get it at all
Just because there's space
In your life it's a waste
To spend your time why don't you wait for the call

(Just gotta get used to it)
We all get it in the end
(Just gotta get used to it)
We go down and we come up again
(Just gotta get used to it)
You irritate me my friend
(This is no social crisis)
This is you having fun
(No crisis)
Getting burned by the sun
(This is true)
This is no social crisis
Just another tricky day for you

You can always get higher
Just because you aspire
You could expire even knowing.
Don't push the hands
Just hang on to the band
You can dance while your knowledge is growing

(It could happen anytime)
You can't expect to never cry
(Patience is priceless)
Not when you try to fly so high
(Just stay on that line)
Rock and roll will never die
(This is no social crisis)
[etc.]

Another tricky day
Another gently nagging pain
What the papers say
Just seems to bring down heavier rain
The world seems in a spiral
Life seems such a worthless title
But break out and start a fire y'all
It's all here on the vinyl
(No crisis)
[etc.]

[Repeat verse 1.]

(Just gotta get used to it)
Gotta get used to waiting
(Just gotta get used to it)
You know how the ice is
(Just gotta get used to it)
It's thin where you're skating
(This is no social crisis)
[etc.]

Just another tricky day for you fellah

Who, The Another Tricky Day Comments
  1. J.... K....

Who played this live for me in Hollywood recently.
Break down and start a fire, y'all. Right here on the vinyl.
Gotta get used to it, no social crisis, just another tricky day for me.
Hollywood. Sunshine. What the papers say brings down heavy rain
in Los Angeles. Get used to it. Ice is thin where you're skating.
How to skate, hands behind your back and push with your legs.

  2. C.... C....

2020 near Mexico City with 2 of my dogs

  3. A.... S....

Sorry, do you could play a concert with Kenney Jones 2020 ? ? ?

  4. J.... K....

One of the gems from the album

  5. P.... S....

Another tricky day by the who great music keep on rocking roger

  6. B.... S....

    Dude... This is absolutely stellar...!!!

  7. A.... P....

*The Great Rock Music Renaissance of the 1980s. The Great Power Cord Man Pete Townsend. Such A Joy to Listen to, One Awesome Tune, and so pertinent for our day and time. God is Testing You, use your best intentions and steps to go forward. Pray for guidance and protection from the downside.*

  8. S.... *....

No close up on Kenny Jones? Where's the love? 😉

  9. M.... S....

One of the band's most underrated tracks. The Who originally hated the "Face Dances" album, but in an interview a few years ago, Roger Daltrey said he liked the record and felt it was the band's most underrated album. The outtakes like "I Like Nightmares" and "It's In You" are album quality as well. The sense I get is that the album they really have issues with is "It's Hard." Although it has some good songs, it just has too much filler. I know after it was mixed Roger was so against it that he just wanted to shelve it and tour.

  10. M.... ....

    Hands down best ever

  11. J.... D....

At their peak " there's no crisis "

  12. D.... G....

One of the Who's best post-Moon tunes. But I sure miss him! Irreplaceable. Kenny Jones was a true professional, but plays the standard drummer's role of time-keeping, and keeping the song moving onward. Keith Moon played an unusual (for a drummer) "lead" role, not a time-keeper. And did it with great vigor. One-of-a-kind, for sure.

  13. J.... B....

You just have to get used to it! You all will get it in the end! It's true! Just another tricky day for you! 2020!

  14. J.... B....

    Pure rock!

  15. J.... B....

Peter is a saint! Saint rock and roll!

  16. D.... B....

Roger going through his Rupert the Bear phrase.😆

  17. B.... S....

    Love...

  18. B.... H....

I remember when these 3 black and white videos hit MTV (this song, You Better You Bet, and Don't Let Go The Coat). Great songs and the videos complemented each other well. And around this time came the videos from "All the Best Cowboys". Great time for Pete and MTV.

  19. B.... S....

This is no social crisis... This is just me enjoying the living shittt... Out of this video...!!! :)

  20. R.... _....

THE WHO *is* my FAVORITE BAND!!!!

  21. T.... S....

Just got an ad for their new album

  22. A.... E....

They increased the speed of the song on the video, probably to make it sound more energetic and to decrease the length of the song for T.V., but it ruins the groove. Listen to the original to see what I mean.

  23. A.... P....

Best track on the LP, IMO

  24. S.... S....

We love the Ox, but don’t forget how amazing Roger and Pete are!

  25. d.... d....

its a nice tune. baker and bruce of cream were on London jazz circuit before cream happened, the who had it's own roots, of course. there became a void in the 80s with people starting to ignore the roots. if one has talent, they will probably study what's relevant. tricky day perhaps implied what was going on then--Townsend almost gave up on music around when moon died.

  26. m.... ....

So many of Townsend’s compositions are so complex, songs that don’t jump out at you, but age like fine wine. Brilliant composer. Absolutely brilliant.

  27. J.... J....

    AWESOME BAND,
    AWESOME SONG,
I SAW THE WHO IN 1997 IN WEST PALM BEACH.
    AWESOME.

    J.... J....

Wow...I went to that show too. I took my girlfriend at the time. I got her into The Who after taking her to her "maiden" show in New York City for the Quadrophenia shows in 1996. I first saw them in Houston in 1980...my ears rang for 3 days! She loved the NY shows so much we've seen them about 10 more times since then. Oh...and I married her in 2010, and just saw them again in Houston.. the show where Roger lost his voice. Luckily they're coming back in April, 2020! Long live The Who!

  28. J.... B....

I've been on the magic bus for years!

  29. J.... B....

And listen nobody dances like Peter Townsend! Nobody!

  30. J.... B....

Peter Townsend is a rock God! You better get used to it!

  31. J.... B....

And Peter Townsend! Peter Townsend transcend's all rock guitarist so-called geniuses! Mr. Townsend is a genius!

  32. J.... B....

Okay I'm 64 listen to The Beatles the stones exile on main Street rod Stewart gasoline Alley! The who is the best rock and roll band of all time!

  33. H.... S....

Pete Townsend -Empty Glass and The Who -Face Dances ( my freshman and sophomore years in high school ) I grew up 35 miles south of Los Angeles....California ❤️’s The Who there was tons of airplay....Those were the days my friend 🌿🌺🌿

  34. 2.... ....

THE WHO JUST THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER AND EVER WILL BE.

  35. P.... S....

This video, in particular, really displayed some great footage of the Ox playing his bass lines...
I'm guessing Entwhistle must've slipped the video's director a C-note to make sure he actually got some face time.
    LOL!

  36. M.... ....

This Who person? he maka me cry no?

  37. S.... ....

Love this song and this whole album...by far, my favorite album by them...

  38. J.... D....

I have a fever and the only prescription is more bass. Now at this time, I am feeling week,so gimme more , just in case!

  39. d.... ....

Kenney Jones is a great drummer. Solid.

  40. B.... S....

    OMG...OUTSTANDING...!!!

  41. F.... 6....

    Hammer! Genial Jhon E.

  42. d.... ....

This is my favorite Who song ever. Thank God they made Face Dances.

  43. T.... P....

Pete Townsend is so freaking sexy.

  44. M.... ....

I’m a little depressed today and want to return to being newly minted teen in1982. Took the day off, listened to the whole album while driving past the pizza place where we all hung out, the old bike store where I bought my Mongoose, and drove around the park on this chilly overcast day. Feeling a lot better.

  45. T.... G....

Wooo this was a great tune. Rogers vocals and Pete’s are totally dialed. It’s even a good video. No nonsense no special effects, no need! This music speaks for itself. I don’t know how people can listen to the crappola on the radio today. Glad I was born in the 60”s.

  46. T.... ....

Why is this pitched up so high?

  47. M.... M....

Why do so many Who videos have sped up audio? Is it an artifact of a bad frame rate conversion from film to video? All of the Face Dances videos run fast, and some of the other stuff on YouTube as well...

  48. P.... D....

Love this song. Kenny Jones is an excellent drummer and doesn’t get enough love. Love this drum kit, awesome 😎

  49. D.... P....

This is no social crisis. Its the who having fun!

  50. J.... G....

    Story of my life.....

    J.... G....

The lyrics fits with me.Another amazing song from them

  51. N.... ....

They don’t write song like this anymore. The Who is great.

    N.... ....

This is the last one. Do you heard "Ball and chain"?, How Deep they felt down...

  52. J.... K....

In case they didn't play this last night here's how it goes.

  53. D.... J....

    Hi tempo here, buzzing.

  54. j.... h....

    Forgot about this one...Awesome!!

  55. R.... C....

Kenney Jones -- smooth on the drums.

  56. S.... A....

Poor Pete. The Great American Cocaine Wave made it’s way across the pond and crashed on him...

  57. A.... P....

Townsend's vocal harmonization is amazing here. Try doing that and keeping up with the booming Daltry.

  58. T.... M....

What was the taped microphone all about?

    T.... M....

Roger likes to twirl his mics by the cable. It keeps the mic from flying off.

    T.... M....

@Burt Reynolds FOH tech yells "INCOMING!"

  59. J.... R....

    scotts witnessing crime
    house of correction yield sign
    michael welch sit whine

  60. L.... A....

    Another great song

  61. S.... H....

embarrassingly , i first saw this in 1990 and thought it was new!!! lol i had no idea that the who did anything after Who Are You... i thought like Led Zeppelin, they were done when their iconic drummer passed on. then i discovered their 1979-1985 era. kind of a different band but great nonetheless!

    S.... H....

They still had the Ox carrying the bottom!

  62. M.... F....

excellent ! I might be wrong but...probably not 68. and probably a mix of a studio recording and this video take, with a very similar arrangement. Excellent, anyway!!!

  63. f.... ....

This group remains a big deal, Pete's genius, his style is an incredible signature sound that's most awesome. Pete and Roger two great singers, Keith's playing was outstanding, John on bass the only bass player that matches this kind of talent is Mark King of Level 42. Time is all in head this music is great anytime. The illuminati places labels division and politics into music for an agenda. I just love to enjoy what things are for what they are...

  64. M.... K....

    So clever. Nolla

  65. D.... L....

Roger Daltrey does a good job too.

  66. M.... M....

Great tune.....not played often like "Slip Kid" or "The Seeker" 2 more of my fav seldom heard WHO tunes.

    M.... M....

    *TOTALLY AGREE!!!!*

  67. J.... P....

I have no idea why people thought "Face Dances" was a weak album.

    J.... P....

I think it is a very good album. I think it was the fact that there were those who couldn't get over the fact that The Who moved on after Moon passed away. Although it certainly was sad and he certainly was an iconic drummer, he lived his life at break neck speed, so, unfortunately, it was in inevitable. I'm sure that the others knew that and were mentally prepared to move on if that were to happen. It did and they did.

  68. A.... S....

    A GOOD EIGHTIES SONG!

  69. D.... J....

Still rate this highly - underplayed.

  70. D.... A....

A Favorite College Song of Mine...GO BRUINS!

  71. D.... D....

    Classic

  72. C.... B....

One of the best Kenney Jones period Who songs.

  73. T.... L....

    Awesomeness

  74. M.... ....

Reminds me of insane cocaine days in the art dept of that screen print shop in '81, with my fellow inmates. Listening to all the great music of those days while we worked & laughed. Real good times...till we burned out.

  75. E.... D....

    the best band

  76. D.... P....

This is no social crisis, just my opinion but I'd take the who's top 4 albums over any other bands. My generation,Tommy , Who's next and Quadrophenia.

  77. r.... ....

great underrated tune by a great yet underrated band. I only say that because with all the great albums and material they had over a couple decades, they never had a no 1 album. Blew my mind. Still sold over 100 million albums when the population was about half of what it is now. WHen it meant something. God/Jesus bless and save all that read this.

  78. h.... ....

Sorry.... this is not a live audio recording. It is right off the album.

    h.... ....

Not exactly, very close but not the same

  79. m.... ....

May as well be my theme songc

    m.... ....

    *song, see👀

  80. l.... ....

Didn't want to wade through 1K comments (though I'm sure it would be worth it), but of course this isn't live. Lip-synched version that aired on MTV in its early days. The synch is spot on, with the exception of some of Townsend's riffs at the end. Far better than the Stones -- their synch to the music was atrocious (but still enjoyable, in a goofy way).

  81. A.... P....

Razor sharp rhythm guitar and pulsating, bobbing and weaving bass

  82. J.... K....

We try to play like this in Los Angeles and have great success
but not exactly like this. Gotta get used to it. No social crisis.
This is the Who. Just another tricky day. What the papers say
seems to bring down heavy rain. Gotta get used to it.
We all come up and go down again, like Bowie.
And the Who. Oh, this is them. Well break out and start a fire, y'all.
It's all here on the vinyl.

  83. W.... M....

Ok, here's the plan, let's all get in tune and play lead.............loves me some Who.

  84. R.... R....

    Tired. Of tricky daze

  85. m.... c....

Rare studio version with Dr. Who singing lead

    Rock and Roll scarf

  86. J.... J....

Glad to see they are still around!

  87. b.... ....

I'll never forget the day I got laid-off from a job for the first time in my life. It was on a day when I had tickets to see The Who in the front row that night. I got laid off and went home and told my wife the "devastating news" and I wasn't sure if I should go to The Who gig that night. She told me I absolutely should go. And out of the blue, The Who played Another Tricky Day out of the blue for the first time in many years. I practically cried. And in less than a week I secured a new job making more than I did at the previous place. Because of that, Another Tricky Day will always hold a special place in my heart.

  88. K.... C....

    Should have been a single?

  89. M.... M....

    Excellent song-about geniuses like Pete

  90. j.... m....

I try to keep that in mind every day.

  91. m.... s....

what a tune , the playing is so good entwistle earns his rep

  92. m.... s....

    KJ is one lucky F'er

  93. C.... ....

Sure enough, took me right back to 7th grade.

  94. p.... d....

the golden haydays of the good old Oo withouth Keith but still very much the who

  95. R.... F....

too bad they had to lip-sync for the video.

  96. M.... W....

Just gotta get used to it....gota get used to waiting....

  97. J.... K....

The Who is better than the stones.
This is no social crisis. Pruitt Igo getting bombed down
in another revolt. No social crisis, it's how we play in Hollywood.
It could happen anytime, get burned by the sun.
Such a worthless title but here it is on the vinyl.
Gotta get used to it.The ice is thin where your're skating.
Go down and come up again. What the papers say seems to bring
down heavy rain. We built Los Angeles from stuff like this.
It's another victim of Andy Warhol and the Velvet underground.
Just another tricky day in la.

  98. j.... m....

We all get it in the end.

  99. O.... X....

Ox’s twangy bass sound is magic. Brilliant album, tracks. Magic 🙌🏻
