Dave's biggest mistake was losing John Sykes.

..losing? you mean firing lol ..and getting rid of him

@james williams ain't that the truth; apparently Coverdale was not only jealous of Sykes: he felt his "Alpha Male" status was threatened by him, disliked his multiple hours in the studio trying to "find the right sound" or perfecting his solos, demanded a bigger share/bigger role, and anyway, they never truly clicked as pals or friends.
Still, one of the best short-lived (and tense-edgy) collaborations of all time.

@Joan Ruiz Jacob and when Coverdale was in hospital skyes wanted to takeover the band.
