I used to be into Slipknot but when I started getting into deathcore and after that when I got into tech death, grindcore, deathgrind, black metal, blackened death metal, I started understanding the criticism that they got and I stopped liking Slipknot very quickly. I have no hate for slipknot fans, but I just don't consider them truly "metal" anymore. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say they aren't "metal" per se, It's just listening to them doesn't scratch that Metal itch for me anymore. Slipknot hasn't done it for me in a long time, I feel like I'm listening to something that isn't truly metal in it's essence. I don't want to sound like an annoying elitist, even though there's no way of saying this without sounding like one. If you like Slipknot, that's cool. I don't like them personally. No hate from my part, just my opinion.

I'm a huge Thy Art is Murder and Suicide Silence fan, I love Whitechapel and I hold the opinion that Phil Bozeman is the greatest Deathcore singer (Deathcore specifically, if I go into Death Metal I think Gallagher from Dying Fetus and Travis Ryan from Cattle D are actually a tad bit better) but I don't know I feel like instrumentally Whitechapel has been getting a bit bland lately. And I feel you, a lot of Slipknot haters are bandwaggoning their hatred from elitists but I honestly just Don't Like them personally. Honestly and personally I can't find any other band that sounds like Whitechapel the only album I didn't like of thier's is the one about jack the ripper I can't even remember the name of that album it sounds too much like the pussy screamo that's every where's but in Whitechapel's other albums. I hear where you're coming from. I really want to get more into deathcore as well, but so many of these bands like Suicide Silence and Chelsea Grin are mediocre at best. However, if you want more of a Periphery-type of sound, listen to Veil of Maya or Born of Osiris. Another good deathcore band I discovered recently is Upon a Burning Body.

Also, this one isn't deathcore, it's more deathgrind, but Cattle Decapitation is also good, and it's extremely violent and hateful. \m/ They're probably the most fucking insane band I've ever heard. Hope I helped! :)

On the contrary to many comments posted here, I think that this is a strong return to form. I found the self-titled album to be pretty boring bar a couple songs. It's also quite alarming to come back to Death Metal to people whining about MUH DROPS and MUH LYRICAL GENIUSNESS. Far this community has fallen, far it has fallen indeed.

Everyone kept saying this was a hard song to cover vocally due to it being fast. It sounds pretty easy, and the flow just makes it easier. The breath control necessary isn't much (especially if you can take a breath in under a second that keeps you going for maybe 6 seconds more), and his speed isn't superb. I came back just to see if it were worth covering, but I guess not. It's not a great song, or album to me. I'm just going to do an Acrania song, or Archspire. Definitely Archspire if I can get that fast.

God damn, this is boring and uninspired. I've liked all of Whitechapel's albums leading up to this, but this is not good. Their self titled wasn't too great either, but if this is what the new album is going to sound like, fuck it. 

Yeah man, you're fucking right, They're not the Whitechapel we love anymore. Phil Used to do a lot of different tones in his vocals, the music used to be more complex (at least a little) and definitely, more brutal and fun. Now this is just like its name: mono(tonous)...

@Talie Styles There's a difference between hating and criticism. I didn't just say that this sucks, I said why I think it sucks. Some people do like this. I don't. I think it's garbage compared to what I know they can, and have written. Whitechapel has much more potential than this.

The album is alright. I haven't heard anything from them that has topped This is Exile yet, though. Their direction isn't exactly regressing, but it's different. Kind of getting softer, if you ask me.

@Nick DeLisa ALOT of bands have been doing that. i think metal has lost some of its aggression in my HONEST opinion. i have yet to hear an album(well i prob have) BUT. i have yet to hear an album that is more aggressive than IOWA slipknot set the bar for aggression i think. and it payed off for years but recently metal has gone a little soft. don't get me wrong! i LOVE LOVE LOVE metal to death! its my life, and Whitechapel is one of my top 5 favorite bands. nor am i saying metal is really weak per-say nowadays just saying its all been done before. there's a difference between being heavy and just flat out aggressive music. i feel like its more heavy sounding now rather than aggressiveness with a purpose and meaning. 

Although I really like this, and it reminds me of early Slipknot. I am a little disappointed that Phil hasn't used his vocal variety as best as he could :-/
