Whiskey Myers - Dogwood Lyrics

Dancing on the creek bank
Blue eyes and auburn hair
It was the best years of our lives
We didn’t have a care
Going 90 miles an hour
A truck and an old dirt road
Two young ass kids
Back where the dogwood flowers grow

Then graduation came
You was big city bound
I was going nowhere fast
So I just hung around
By the next time I seen you
Your love had grown cold
So I guess you broke my heart
Back where the dogwood flowers grow

White on the bloom
That April moon
It could have been forever darlin’ had we stayed together
But you had to go
Time don’t slow
It took further from your home
Back where the dogwood flowers grow

So I took to drinking
I guess you wouldn’t recognize me
My souls torn and twisted
Like an old dogwood tree
We used to talk about forever
That was a million miles ago
So I’ll see it if I see
Back where the dogwood flowers grow

White on the bloom
That April moon
You ain’t dead set on leavin
When you miss the one you need
Just getting real
Hell remember when
You had that hand to hold
Back where the dogwood flowers grow

I know this is kind of childish, but there was this girl that I have liked ever since the beginning of middle school. We were good friends throughout our years of high school, but now she has left to go to college in another city. We don’t speak very often anymore; once every couple of months, just a “hey what’s going on” kind of thing. I don’t know if I still have feelings for her, I mainly just missed having a friend to talk to...

  85. A.... E....

Myers your one of a kind and I just love your music it really speaks to me and life its self. would love to see you in concert!!!!!!!!!

    A.... E....

You do realize that nobody in the band is named "Meyers" right?

  86. R.... H....

I first saw them at Neon Country in Jacksonville, TX.  They are amazing in concert.

  87. R.... F....

This band is a refreshing breakthrough on so many levels. A southern rock spirit that can not be passed off as revivalist of a genre, but rather a more intimate and current state of southern influences, ie: Wal mart, Dollar General, Baptism, Mud Bogging , Bar Hopping, and Friday Night Football, etc., The Irony of it is for so many decades the dominant market radio stations of these regions locked out all original and local bands to guarantee a solid commercial market through the advertising sales of a Classic Rock format. So now when a fresh and truly original southern rock band tries to get recognised for thier natural talents, playing at the local live band venue will get them little more than a few CD sales, and great memories, and a good time for those who don't get too drunk to remember it. These guy's Rock!!! Call your local Radio station and demand they play it.# I Want My Whiskey Myers!

    R.... F....

  97. A.... S....

This is one of the best songs ever, really speaks to you no matter what situation you are in, doesn't have to be that girl that got away. Whiskey Myers is truly something else....

  98. T.... C....

This should be #1 on cmt top 20

    T.... C....

I have to agree with the man above me. If this was on country radio they would make them sell out and become pop country. This is real southern rock country music and will be respected more than Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean by people that actually appreciate real country music

    T.... C....

CMT needs to RIP, just my opinion. Pop Country sucks! WM, Cadillac 3, Blackberry Smoke, and Cody Canada and the Departed to name a few are the new age of Southern Music. Our music is safe, for the moment.

    T.... C....

they already are totally influenced by main stream country (god awful shit that crap is: take back my old hank, Jr, david allan coe, merle, straight, cash, ect. anyday. now that's real country rhythm& blues! these guys are good but any major recording label will market the hell out of  them quick. and prob. in 30 mins of studio time. auto tune his vocals, heavier bass track and a different drum kit and done! theres your cmt top 20. like I said before they are greatly influenced by whats mainstream when it comes to their sound and approach. (maybe they want to get discovered and go big time. sure seems that's where their intentions lie.
compare them to Dear Tick,  (originated in pvd. RI., had several major records produced did great in the underground indie scene mainly cali, and north east) ,also The Devil Makes Three (super friggin blue rooted), or similar bands where youll find some actual real rooted blue grass and blues twang, coupled with lots of deep sometimes dark punked out lyrics.
then you without a doubt see that theses guys are about one American flag jean jacket few more cliché cord progressions  and a major contract away from being perfect for any POP or Country(also pop {pop-country}lol) station regular major spin slots. I'm just stumbling across this (actually trying to google pictures of the dogwood flower , thought maybe this would be some type of Dylan/OCMS type of cover or similar styled grass roots band ( you know " picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers lol) but sadly just some darius rucker/springsteen/ tom petty type shit hybrid. =/
theres still so much real and innovative new great music out there tho, just gotta find it @tri cities up there seems too know what he  was talking about.

    T.... C....

    Excellent taste in music Lee!

    T.... C....

@neil -pVd- 2 years later... They belong to no record label other than their own, wiggy thump. No selling their sound out, its all their own and you'll be able to hear it on their new self produced record "Die Rockin" September 27th.
