Puccini - Madama Butterfly?

I could be wrong, but this English language version (minus the added line at the end) of "Un bel di" was first performed by Deanna Durbin in her 1939 movie "First Love".  She was 17 at the time, and sings this aria in a remarkably mature operatic voice, as was her style.  However I still enjoy Hayley's singing here.

Hayley's voice is really pure. Gives a great emotion. I was really stroke, she has an amazing gift. I cannot say the same for Katherine Jenkins.

I like Hayley's voice a lot more (her pitch and her tone is good to me) than Katherine Jenkins, and I wouldn't say her stage presence is bad, it's average...but I guess that's just your opinion, which is fine.

Not a patch on Jenkins who is rocking America just now.Katherine is already a Warner star. Thetywill never go for Westenra she has about as much charisma in concert as a dead fish

Domingo sings all the time with Katherine Jenkins.I do not think he rates Westenra much at all.
Hayley desperate these these days claims to have sold more albums than Katherine ,Katherine has sold 3 million more .Westenra was only wanted for 6 little concerts in the UK Katherine had to put on extra 27 I think.
By the way Katherine will be sharing the limelight in a Boceli concert later this year i New York.Katherine will sing to the Queen twice (jubilee) Hayley Guernsey -well .

A beautiful new rendition of an old song. I like it. :) It's certainly better this way than in the traditional operatic style. That always sounds kinda un-natural to me.

If her voice isn't angelic perfection, i don't know what is!! Hayley Westenra is truly talented.

I would have thought Domingo the attraction in Christchurch, great opera singer she is not.
Katherine Jenkins is not big in Australia despite having great management team, and that does help.
New Zealands Kiri is a great opera singer, Katherine is never going to step in to her shoes.
Only browse in to Haley Westenras sites occasionaly, but Katherine Jenkins seems to be the topic of conversation, quite puzzling.

Her voice reminds me a bit of Christine Daar, the character from 'The Phantom of the Opera.' Her voice like 'an angle' or even better I think.

Beautiful rendition and that extra line at the end fits very well as an artists interpretation of the song.

This song is not for an older operatic voice in particular, but for a young girl in love. Hayley portrays the sentiment and typical feelings of the situation superbly and much to her credit.

I agree with you absolutely! I hate when talented young singers over-reach to such an extent they could damage their voices. Be happy you have a nice voice, you don't need to sing the Queen of the Night aria when you're only 12! So good for Hayley for looking after her instrument!
