Weller, Paul - Black Is The Colour Lyrics
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some roses fair
She has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands.
I love the ground whereon she goes
I wish the day it soon would come
When she and I could be as one.
I go to the Clyde, and I mourn and weep
For satisfied I never can be
I'll write her a letter, just a few short lines
And I owe death a thousand times
Black is the color of my true love's hair
She has the sweetest smile
And the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands.

Beautiful rendition of this song and wonderful video.
"Tigress adored, indolent fiend, lie there,
There on my heart now, merciless and strong,
I wish to run my trembling fingers long
Through the black tangles of your heavy hair.”
It's a folk song and love song sung by English irish Scottish and Welsh people and people that immigrated from these countries when the mod father and other legendary artists record it speaks volumes for the song
+frank hughes He overheard it at a wedding apparently!
why would Paul Weller go to the clyde to moan and weep?
+TheVanpablo79
dah! because he misses me!! :P ( joking of course! )
i thought it was GREEN
I,am Irish and my Mother passed away two years passed. This song Creates a Beautiful and Sublime Picture of her. Thank You Bernard.
This is a Scottish song.
Which do you think is the original? Even Hamlish Imlach's version - brilliant by the way, or Davy Grahame's, absolutely incredible - are not original (but at least they are Scottish like the original).
It's a Scottish song...
Why are people talking shite about the king? Weller has covered many songs and bettered every single one. You can hate all you want.
PISS OFF YOU NO MARK, WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU EVER DONE? FUCKING TYPICAL HATING GOBSHITE

got the opportunity to have dinner with paul weller back in 1991 in berlin, been a life long fan this was both special and nerve wrecking for me
weller was so down to earth and very funny and to my surprise was very interested in irish music and asked me lots of questions about the chieftians...what a total gent
Just listened to his version of Black is the Colour. Paul nailed it.
It must have been really special to meet him.
I've always loved his music.
great version!
Paul Weller's version of this timeless folk song is well done......Lisa Lambe and Christy Moore are also excellent.....BRAVO!

I'vve heard so many arrangements of this song, this one tops each and every one of them.
That violin solo must be the most amazing I have ever heard! Tried to play it the other day but it was quite impossible ;)
paul weller is by far the best version

By far without shadow of a doubt the best version ever of this song ever recorded, plus if yer stoned it just pure massages the back of the old neck, ya man-powerful stuff
Nice Version but the Christy Moore version is the Definitive for me..Go on Christy!!
paul weller has a wonderfull beautynes in his voice. This song is very beautifull this way , with those violins and everything.

I love ur channel ;) And I'm still in love with St.Trinian, don't worry;)
Jeez. Paul Weller covers Hamish Imlach! Got oor Hamish daein' this on the 1966 album "XTRA". Hamish Imlach's version iz much better (thanks mainly tae his nifty guitar arrangement and better voice), but glad to hear this lovely song again.
Stumbled upon this while searching for christys version.I love Christys version, but this has its own merits.
@ryan07903 My friend black is a colour.
Maybe the "true love" was from Clyde? Who knows.. anyway a great song ;)
you're a bitch.
Its a Glasgow folk song. Christy Moore was on the Late late show talking about it. So elaihao sorry your wrong.
if u like this listen to christy moore..his one is much better
this is a scottish folk song FACT
No it isn't. Black is not a colour.
good vid
I like this version, but I doubt that it's Irish. Why would he go to the Clyde to mourn and weep if he was Irish?
It's probably Scottish in origin.
excellent!!
no, it belongs to John Jacob Niles
this is irish
Thanks for this version!
this song really belongs to cara dillon . her take on the song is exceptional . see her live version posted by cagun . its beautiful .
I "love" Paul Weller - THAT is my favourite version! Thanks for this clip - a good work!
Christy Moore does the best version! But Weller does an ok version!

I know exactly how you feel/what you mean......
have you heard the Lucka bloom version? It's also very nice!
damn good version, i still love winter.
Actually, the song is MUCH older than her version. I do love her interpitation, but it's orgins are far older, and much deeper.
Glad you enjoyed this one.
the best interpretation of this song is in fact by Nina Simone, which is unjustly not available on YouTube from what I can tell
thats mor like it
there was a good version by brian small which was deleted for some reason.
Indeed. I saw it last Friday on a dutch tv sender. lovin' last forever.. only he experience the power of the light so hard, who knows the dept of the night..
I do wish Paul had done a video to this, his version is one of the most haunting and beautiful I have ever heard.
