Weller, Paul - All Along The Watchtower Lyrics

There must be some kind of way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
Theres too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessman they drink my wine
Plow men dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth
Hey hey

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke but uh
But you and I weve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hours getting late
Hey

Hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Bare-foot servants to, but huh
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Two riders were approachin
And the wind began to howl
Hey
Oh
All along the watchtower
Hear you sing around the watch
Gotta beware gotta beware I will
Yeah
Ooh baby
All along the watchtower

Weller, Paul All Along The Watchtower Comments
  1. d.... b....

Very nice, but the Jimmy Hendrix version is science fiction!!!

  2. l.... s....

Bryan ferry has done a good version too...

  3. l.... s....

Paul has done justice to this song along with Bryan ferry while hendrix, Bless his soul made a mess of it all ..Dylan would be proud of paul's work

  4. A.... M....

    Like this version PW!!!!

  5. N.... ....

Dave Matthews Band version shits all over this version

  6. m.... c....

Nice version, love Paul’s stuff, but the record needs Hendrix shredding guitar , 8/10 for effort

  7. E.... K....

    🐶 Best version

  8. b.... ....

    Outstanding

  9. p.... p....

I can hear this again and again...the best performance on planet earth...carleen anderson..i love you girl, you are fantastic...

  10. B.... F....

the best "Watchtower" version I know

  11. a.... ....

Good stuff. Yet another good version of this song. But am I the only one who likes Dylan's original minimalist approach the most?

    a.... ....

Have you heard many versions over time? Then it's possible you revert to the (pretty bare bones, or pretty, bare, bones) original, and I can see that. Do you worry about people making covers of the original? Please don't, because like it or not they will, and sometimes will explore avenues the original artist didn't. It all contributes to a large body of artistic work. :)

    a.... ....

adandap jam fan Weller fan Dylan fan like this but Hendrix nailed it no one I've heard gets close to his version

  12. B.... Z....

    Svjetionik

  13. S.... S....

  15. G.... C....

Can't beat the girls in the back round they kill.

  16. U.... ....

Hi Buzz hope all's well :-)

  17. U.... ....

Think I might have had a hand in Paul doing this!

  18. F.... ....

Well, I was expecting something special here, but how boring this version is. It is all at one level ~ no real dynamics ~ no blistering intro or solos. The Dylan live electric version shows how it should be done. Even the Paul Garrick version is superior, and the Dave Mason version has some great guitar work ~ sorry Paul it's a No from me!!

  19. G.... P....

This is my fave version of the song, don't care if you are a hater, PW is a cool dude

  20. K.... ....

I was bored after 20 seconds. Hurry up and retire, Paul!

    K.... ....

+Reinemachefrau thanks for that contribution, bollocks though it is

    K.... ....

+ Reinemachefrau, Why Tf choose to watch it then? Hurry up and Croak , fucking idiot.

  21. a.... j....

    Don't fear the reaper!

  22. s.... ....

This is great but sounds nothing like the Hendrix version

    s.... ....

It wont do because its Weller

    s.... ....

It was originally by Bob Dylan. Bob's version is quite similar to this.

    s.... ....

    A Reviews 😂😂 nothin like Dylan's

    s.... ....

sd301426 Actually, unless you are into early Dylan you haven't heard this either. Bob Dylan hated his original, and when he heard Hendricks cover of it he liked it so much he re-recorded it and released it on a later album.....his new version was a cover of Jimi's version :-)

    s.... ....

It shouldn't. This is Paul Weller not some "shredder"

  23. s.... ....

Steve White...best drummer he ever had! Still don't know why he left..?

  24. s.... ....

The current Allman Brothers line up did a version similar to this one...but more recent

  25. n.... ....

Look up the XTC version. If Hendrix and Weller aren't within the same horizon, XTC must be on a different planet. I have to admit I really love the XTC version, it is totally different.

  26. f.... ....

    fantastico..

  27. n.... ....

You're not wrong, I couldn't understand the reference to Hendrix either. You'd think Hendrix was the only person who covered this song prior to Weller. I like the XTC version just because it's different, raw, edgy and doesn't conform. Like this version too.

  28. n.... ....

Love it but why put Hendrix in the description. You could have put XTC and it wouldn't been any further from the truth.

  29. J.... Z....

super, top ,klasse, perfekt - jimi kann ruhig schlafen.

  30. M.... S....

    Great version - perfectly understated

  31. E.... ....

    fantastic! love it

  32. S.... ....

I was just thinking the same. Well spotted!

  33. S.... ....

Nice and slow to make sure I pressed the 'like' button. I didn't want to ruin perfection through idiocy!

  34. C.... E....

    amazing cover

  35. t.... ....

    You serious?

  36. G.... ....

England's Bob Dylan. But more consistent.

  37. J.... ....

How damn cool is this? Mister Buzz you havesome way cool vids - cheers man!

  38. w.... ....

The finger picking is remeniscent of Dylean and the Byrds, but really the driver to this song has to be Steve White whose drumming determines where the dynamics of this song goes, who gained a co-production credit for his efforts on this when the album was recordedl this is the way that he was working at the time; live performance in the studio. White would have had a big influence on this one.

  39. d.... ....

Oh!! For those of you who thinks Weller's cover leans towards Hendrix version, i suggest you do your homework. The guitar sound has a distinctive Byrds flavour filtered through Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper, which was a Byrds pastiche anyway. Once again Mr Weller fantastic version!!

    d.... ....

    That's what I was thinking!!

  40. d.... ....

Always liked Paul Weller the man, & shared his love of 60's music. But i often found myself irritated by his obsession with Mod. As my uncle who was an original London Mod in the early 60's said "Mod looked to the future and was dead by 65'" when it was superseded by hippie. A Mod revival was a contradiction in terms..remember Mod is short for Modernist!! My other problem was that a lot of Weller's music sounded like 60's pastiche. But this cover is utterly fantastic. Bravo!! Bravo!! Mr Weller.

  41. J.... R....

He was doing Dylan version inside the case of studio 150 it says all along the watchtower 'Bob Dylan cover'

  42. s.... ....

    Great Organ Solo

  43. U.... ....

Dylan song but I believe Paul was leaning towards the Hendrix version.

  44. L.... ....

Hendrix Cover? It's a Dylan Song!

  45. U.... ....

well I had to rate this one didnt I ?

  46. Z.... C....

Brilliant again my friend ;-) ************
