This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life. It had great story telling, great harmonies, killer guitar solos. I feel sorry for those that died before hearing this amazing piece.

David Rawlings should have never traded the 1935 Epiphone Olympic archtop for the guitar he is playing now a days ( 1959 D’Angelico Excel) Sound is just not the same. First one had to be played and played well at that, the second one is just like everyone else's.... Listen to the difference.

Poser? You don't know much about David Rawlings apparently. He co-writes and produces the majority of Gillian Welch's music and they also collaborate on his very successful projects with the Dave Rawlings Machine.  The man is far from being a 'poser' and is a star in his own right.

Fast and furious, what a guitarist Dave is and the concentration he puts in that pickin is amazing. Clear vocals too from both especially Gillian, she sure has a powerful voice, and the emotion in this take is out of this world, it sure makes my hair stand on end

Totally timeless. It could have been written any time in the last 300 years.

Couldn't find a new one with that particular sound, and it adds to the song. I'm sure he's got more than that one.

I enjoy all genres and I cant help watching this particular gem a good 20 times a year. One of my favorites is Willow Garden with the Osborne Bros. Love a good story thats as you desribed

Good God, Rawlings must have grip that could bust a titanium brick. Watching him pick on this song makes my hand ache. I've held one of those Epiphones and it takes a lot to get the sound he produces. I'm impressed!

From the first few moments of hearing them play ever,  a show (something akin to Austin City Limits) being re-broadcast in the wee hours, I started shouting for my husband to wake up as so not to miss a note.  He thanked me, as we both fell in love with their music!

1: A Capo that far down the fret board is hard enough 2: a 1935 Epiphone Olympic 3: Combine the two and you better have some mighty strong fingers and hands to get that sound!
I've showed this to two professional musicians, one a 40 year studio string musician, and both grimaced just watching.
Add to that Rawlings doesn't think he plays all that well. What you get is an absolutely amazing performance by a very talented musician. Great Stuff!
