Waylon Jennings - Mona Lyrics

I can give you golden tinkling bells
To even dangle through your long black hair
I can give you magic satin slippers
Woven just to take you anywhere.

I can give you all the love and tenderness
A broken heart can spare
But Mona take the love I give
Don't ask for love I gave away back there.

You could take the hand of any man
And show him how to dream
Why do you look back into my dark
And bitter past, can't you see?

Mona when you found me
All I had was sad and broken dreams
Mona please be satisfied walking
Through tomorrow here with me.

I can give you golden tinkling bells
To even dangle through your long black hair
I can give you magic satin slippers
Woven just to take you anywhere...

    Great ....

Jessi Colter, his wife, wrote this for him to sing. Had she tweaked the lyrics a bit so she herself could sing it from "Mona's" perspective, she would have had one hell of a follow-up to her "I'm Not Lisa" blockbuster. Waylon always turns any song into magic, for sure.

Jonathan Kieran jessi wanted waylon to make this song sound like he wrote it. He talks about it in an interview

This is a song that comes from the inside out, a very fantastically great song of deepest feeling. From the gutter all dreams shattered, a fallen man, through love lifted up built a successful life just to have that love drop him on his face, loosing what he held most dear, the love that lifted him up, nothing else truly matters anymore….. a true soul gripping song from the man that rocks the depth of music. maybe to truly connect you would have to of been there,

@Jennifer Snyder  truly haunting melody of loneliness

Had this on an 8 track, I missed my dad. He made the 8 track for me. My mom continued to get married 7-9 more times, still had dad and Waylon, LOL. He still contined to provide me with Waylon thru 8 track, then cassettes, then CDs

One of his very best, it may not be perfect, have the best arrangement, but it's the soul you can hear in it and his voice...thats what made Waylon so good

  17. M.... M....

I know there is no such thing as a "favorite" when it comes to Waylon's songs but this one is my all time night time favorite, on repeat, the music is so "soothening" and takes me back to yesteryears!!!!

I imagine that Jessi wrote this song about herself (at his request). Either way, I think it's one of the sweetest songs on "This Time"

    Thanks for posting it.
