@Jeff Hallums I agree-it was re-recorded by a group called Matthews, Wright, and King--in fact their version is the first one I heard but I can't find it online. They apparently weren't as popular as I thought LOL.

This is a favorite of mine. Gene could sing the New York phone book line for line and make it sound like a hit. What a vocalist. He started out great and will remain so in my estimation. I saw him in Brown County Indiana a couple of years back. I bought a CD of his gospel music and was blown away; listened to it all the way home to St. Louis - love "Climb Higher".

I remember seeing a video of this, and someone commented that as Gene left the stage, he had tears in his eyes. It must have some meaning to him. (or he sings it so well, that HE even feels it)
