Waterboys, The - When Ye Go Away Lyrics

Now he's brought down the rain
And the indian summer is through
In the morning you'll be following your trail again
Fair lady

You ain't calling me to join you
And I'm spoken for anyway
But I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

Your beauty is familiar
And your voice is like a key
That opens up my soul
And torches up a fire inside of me

Your coat is made of magic
And around your table angels play
And I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

Somebody left us whisky
And the night is very young
I've got some to say and more to tell
And the words will soon be spilling from my tongue

I will rave and I will ramble
I'll do everything but make you stay
Then I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away

When ye go away...
When ye go away.

    A.... C....

Alejandro Cascante The second line should read , Now he’s brought down the rain and the Indian summer’s reign is the through ( which is a clever lyric and always overlooked )

  64. b.... g....

greatest song from one of the greatest albums ever

  65. G.... B....

    The saddest song ever written.

    G.... B....

    +stella maris
Its because it teaches us not to be possessive because if we are we will destroy that which we love the most
(if you like this song maybe you like Decemberists ' The Crane Wife part 1,2 and 3' it has same message in a beautiful song ( its maybe not as pretty a song but its still really beautiful

    G.... B....

Interestingly, Colin Meloy did a live cover of When Ye Go Away. Excellently.

    G.... B....

Gary Brandt i wouldnt call it 'sad'. perhaps 'resigned'

    G.... B....

    *+asnout4you*
I'd guess that what everybody learns or takes from the song may differ a little, based on our own personal experiences..

    G.... B....

Listen to "The End of the Rainbow" from Richard and Linda Thompson. Keep no sharp objects nearby.

    C.... M....

Cathy Mason He is acknowledged and recognised by us! That should be enough for anyone😘

    C.... M....

@Anthony Potts Yes, I agree with you there. I'm sure Mike Scott & some others would say its not about recognition.
Real talent & true musicians don't need adoration or 'celebrity' status. Their music speaks for itself..

    C.... M....

Many of us recognize his Genius ..its the people that count not the record companies and media love him and the band .

+Javier Moreiras Menor - Apart from the fact he's Scottish :-)

    J.... M....

    Sorry, Scotland.

    god bless scotland

    J.... M....

No need to be sorry, although Mike is most definitely Scottish, the album is largely influenced by his travels around Ireland and has a large number of traditional Irish session musicians on it, along with the poem from WB Yeats (Stolen Child).
