Warwick, Dionne - You're Gonna Need Me Lyrics

Mmmm you're gonna want me back in your arms
You're gonna need me, one day
You're gonna want me back in your arms
You're gonna need me
One day
You're gonna want me back in your arms.

You're gonna wake up when time has taken your throne
You'll taste the bitterness of being alone
There's no splendor in the darkness of night
When there's no loving arms to hold you tight

(you better stop, and think about what you're doing)

Mmm give a little back
Of what you've been taking
Better start being for real and stop your faking
You better prepare yourself for that rainy day
You better throw a little tenderness and affection my way

You're gonna need me
Need me one day
You're gonna want me back in your arms

Tell me who's gonna take the heartbreak i took
And still be there at the close of the book
When you've grown older and lost your way
And all your rainbows have turned to gray

Mmm give a little back
Of what you've been taking
Better start being for real and stop your faking
You better prepare yourself for that rainy day
You better throw a little tenderness and affection my way

This was composed and produced for her in 1973 by Holland Dozier Holland, the great 1960s Motown songwriting and production team. Sadly, the LP bombed.

Crazy. This song is incredible. Just Blaze took this made a classic for Usher. It was just begging to be sampled. That drum riff is mean and that guitar!

Do you know if the instrumental of this track alone exists?

  5. R.... R....

Usher brought me to this throwback 😆

  6. M.... F....

Im suprised Aretha Franklin didn't re record this. This would be her style.

    M.... F....

It's like the female version of the song for the love that I gave from the delfonics.

I made a similar comment on another video. This song would be perfect for Aretha or Mavis Staples. But especially perfect for Gladys Knight, because of the low tones in her voice. I think it would fit perfectly for her.

Love some of the things Dionne is doing as far as phrasing, riffs & runs are concerned here. Stepping out of her more "pulled-in" style to deliver something more gospel-esque. Eargasmic.

    Classic

  8. R.... N....

Usher and Jadakiss sampled this... CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!

But when I think about the delfonics song for the love I gave it only makes me afterwards play usher's you got it bad. The shoe could be on either foot with that song.

This song sounds like the reprecusions of leaving one woman for that other woman. The other woman is also another song from a group called changing faces.
