Warwick, Dionne - Wishin' And Hopin' Lyrics

Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' each night of his charms
That won't get you into his arms

So if you're lookin' to find love you can share
All you gotta do is
Hold him and kiss him and love him
And show him that you care

Show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinkin' and a-prayin'
Wishin' and hopin'

Just wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' his kiss is the start
That won't get you into his heart

So if you're thinkin' how great true love is
All you gotta do is
Hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it and after you do, you will be his

(You gotta)
Show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinkin' and a-prayin'
Wishin' and hopin'

Just wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' his kiss is the start
That won't get you into his heart

So if you're thinkin' how great true love is
All you gotta do is
Hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it and after you do, you will be his
You will be his, you will be his

    I love her voice

  2. Andreia Silva

Diva, maravilhosa......não tem como não amar.

  3. turnitback

I always feel for Dionne when I consider how many of her songs were covered by British singers. They had hits with them despite being nowhere near her talent. Not many were, and she was the one as far as I'm concerned.

    allymayful

But Dionne's versions did much better on the US market which is much bigger than the UK

  4. Søren Rossen

    This song is just wonderful.

  10. poida

    fuck this is horrible

  11. Imelda Pear

I just found out that Hal David and Burt Bacharach wrote this for Dionne, who recorded it in 1963, even though I may have heard Dusty's, which came out in 1964 version more often. I think this has a valid message.

  12. Rhonda Boncutter

Have loved this song for years!

  13. Jorge Mario Rodas

Nice song and for me both Dionne´s version and Dusty's are good to hear. Of course they are different as they were sung by different singers but whilst others may disagree and they are in their right to do so, I like both versions the same.

  14. Willy Billy

The song was first recorded by Dionne Warwick and was the B-side of Warwick's single "This Empty Place" ...

  15. Mary Mabu

    Emanzipation fail

  16. rick smiff

    Ash Ley

    Right there with you 😊

    Jorge Mario Rodas

Irish Patti: You won't get anybody doing that. Go out and meet people and show them you are interested in what they have to say and you shall find someone. May GOD guide you so you shall find someone to share life with. Regards.

  18. Danny James

Glee will be doing this song in an upcoming song ... they at least know how to pick amazing songs

    Amber Riley

And it will be sung by Miss Amber Riley. I'm sure she will do more than justice to this song, she is one of the most talented girls out there today and she knows how to put her signature on a song!

    Candice Mosende

@Amber Riley Fan it will actually be sung by brittany, artie, sam and blaine ;)
but she'll sing Baby Its You by The Shirelles backed up by santana, rachel and brittany. IT WAS REALLY GOOD :))

    Amber Riley

@Candice Mosende i know! Thats what people on twitter were saying when i wrote that a couple of days ago, i thought it was confirmed. Anyway, Baby it's you was excellent. Amber did an amazing job. They should give her more solos..

    Candice Mosende

yes i agree.. she's the true diva for me

  19. MrMusiclover41

Love this song.  Brings back SO many nice memories from the late 1960's!  She was my favorite pop singer in that era.

  20. Mark Minez

    Yes love it !!!

  21. Raj Vardhan Varma

Hats Off for this fantastic Artist

  22. David Aparicio

I like Dionne so much, but Karen Carpenters version make This pale. Karen sings it like if it Was composed for her. check Karen version and you will know

    Rudi Mwongozi

I love Karen Carpenter...and Dionne...But for me Dusty Springfield had the definitive version of this song

    Rudi Mwongozi

Just went and listened to the Karen Carpenter version...All I'll say David Aparicio is...you're entitled to your opinion...I'll leave it at that

    Victor Bonilla

Rudi Mwongozi I agree 100%...nothing against The Carpenters or Dionne Warwick, they're great...but Dusty Springfields version is amazing...powerfully performed!

  27. Marielena5058

I like this version much better than DS

  28. alisa kesten

Just saw Dionne (71 years young!) tonight at Tarrytown Music Hall. Despite a cold, she was still great. Her voice grew stronger as the evening went on. At the end she was joined on stage by her son David who has a great voice.

  29. Alex Riddick

I love Dionne Warwick she is one of favorite singers. Dionne is a remarkable singer.Hal David 's lyrics is so right for both Dionne and Dusty. Both ladies is what real singing is all about.

  30. stlgtrace

This was a minor hit from Dionne in 1963. When Dusty Spingfield had a huge hit with the same song in 1964 Dionne summarized her feellings with one word: "Cheated!". Rest in Peace Hal David!

    Victor Bonilla

stlgtrace This reminds me of another recording by Dionne Warwick..There's Always Something There To Remind Me...which wasn't a hit for her but for a new wave band in the 80s!

    northernhecklet

Erm - Sandy Shaw's signature tune Dionne not a patch on it.

  31. jed kang

classy lady and probably one of the most underrated female vocalist of all time, she is legendary

    northernhecklet

How the hell can be under rated ? She's worshipped as a Goddess

  32. DAAMES1

So many great memories! I love Dionne Warwick!!!

  33. MiZ PiiNQz

I Like Dionne's Version Of This Song Better Than The Others...

  34. tralfaz

Dionne worked as a song demo vocalist in the early 60s for Bacharach and David.

  35. MELODAME ro

love u dionewarrick a beautyfull singer

  36. Godwin Ajala

    Ah..........I love dis

  37. Marc Noack

I am well aware of the fact that Dionne (or Dion, as you call her), recorded that song first (in August 1962 für her LP "Make Way for Dionne Warwick", which was released the following year). That wasn't even the point of my comment! Dusty recorded it in 1964 for her "A Girl Called Dusty" LP and Nancy in 1966 for her "Nancy in London" LP. So carefully read the posts before you piss off other people!

  38. Roberto Coin

@MySwingingSixties Actually folks Dion recorded this song and others as demos and later recorded by Dion and then passed on to Dusty and she made it a hit ,so check your facts before you speak .

  39. Marc Noack

Nice. But I have to confess that I prefer Dusty's version. Nancy Sinatra recorded the song for her 1966 LP "Nancy In London" and that version is a bit faster and more pounding.

  40. Tuan Muda

    * * * * *
    AWESOME

  41. travis7310

@POOH875 Dusty's version almost note for note. The timing is the same for both songs. Dusty's version is the one I'll always remember, though.

    Imelda Pear

Thanks for the comparison. It explains my confusion.

  42. POOH875

@travis7310 lol i thought the same thing Dionne did it 1st but Dustys version was more popular i like them both

  43. travis7310

I never knew she sang this song. I thought Dusty Springfield's version was the original.
