I prefer Alpert version, not Dionne's version from late 1968.

Artist with a voice and talents. But not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame whatever happened to standards and quality and elegance in music. Maybe she wasn't the most prettiest or the most talented and maybe she wasn't singing my kind of songs that artist like Diana Ross or Aretha Franklin or Gladys Knight was singing but she sang songs what kind of standards that are still being used today by some of the top female recording artists like her cousin Whitney, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, and other female vocalist with a range. Dionne Warwick belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

I LOVE this Bacharach classic. I first heard Herb's immaculate version at 11 or 12 and fell madly in love. After that, this is my favourite version. The phrasing and earnestness is Dionne's voice is simply sublime !

Beautiful unisex song. I like this version and also like Herb Alpert's version. Petula Clark also made a good version of this song. It is the song of a lover who is not sure of the feelings of the person she or he loves. That uncertainty can be terrible so it is better to speak things out to know where we stand.

And that feelings of uncertainty could be an exciting one too.
