Warwick, Dionne - (Theme From) Valley Of The Dolls Lyrics

Gotta get off, gonna get Have to get off from this ride
Gotta get hold, gonna get Need to get hold of my pride
When did I get, where did I
How was I caught in this game
When will I know, where will I
How will I think of my name

When did I stop feeling sure, feeling safe
And start wondering why, wondering why
Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
What's in back of the sky, why do we cry

Gotta get off, gonna get Out of this merry-go-round
Gotta get off, gonna get Need to get on where I'm bound
When did I get, where did I Why am I lost as a lamb
When will I know, where will I How will I learn who I am
Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
Tell me, when will I know, how will I know
When will I know why?

So sad this song, remember those 1970s, drugs, Sheron Tate, finally better enjoy this sad and beautiful song.

I love this kind of music and I have it in my iTunes and pandora! It never gets old and no one gets shot behind it! She has one of the most stellar voices of all time! I feel terrible for saying this, but she is a lil hard on the eyes!

  3. D.... B....

I remember my mother buying the album and asking where is the song from the movie? Thanks for the backstory.. :)

This very very touching song reminds us how fragile we are . Sadly,so many lives are lost because of hurt and heart ache, when one no longer has any hope. Speaking personally for myself, Everytime I hear this song, I break down and cry 😭💖 , but the good news is that when you have faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can take all our sorrow, and pain the Lord. For no one else has suffered like our Lord Jesus Christ. And he knows what you and I bare. I am a living breathing testimony that God Almighty has continual love and mercy. I pray for all those who are lost and confused, rejected that they do find the Lord Jesus Christ, before it's too late. God bless 💖🙏✝️.

Barbara Parkins was hot in that movie.

Listened to this song over and over as a preteen. Felt deep in my heart. It would be 45 years before it would be the impetus for me changing my entire life.

  11. S.... ....

    That's her best song!

  12. R.... A....

To understand the context of this song, see the movie "Valley of the Dolls." It'll deepen your appreciation and understanding of the song's lyrics.

Who didn't think Bacharach wrote this?

  15. H.... i....

HOW IN THE WORLD COULD THIS GET A THUMBS DOWN!

  16. Z.... ....

My mother was in the last stages of her battle with cancer when this song came out. I at 16-17 felt that angst in this song and it connected with my soul, imagining how it must have been for her to realize life would not go past age 43.

  17. T.... E....

Talent on a transcendent level. All of those involved in this masterpiece.

  29. m.... n....

when I was very young and I seen this movie I must have been about seven years old , I was always in tuned to everything around me especially what movies was about .
the movie touched me even at a young age .
people who have children do not think that their child can understand things at a very young age but I guarantee they understand more than they are given credit even at a very young age .

  30. M.... S....

Gifted. I wonder of her muse.

  31. M.... C....

  32. C.... ....

The sound of my youth-sad...dreamy...lost, yet so beautiful...

  38. K.... N....

This song is so sad, yet so hopeful.
How many have taken very wrong turns in life and
    finally
    began the
    journey back
home, to the simple, pure and good,
    where they
    knew that
    they
    belonged?

  51. j.... m....

So bad it's good movie with maybe the best theme song ever written and sang. (Come to think of it the other great theme song Alfie was sung by Dionne too)

  52. K.... B....

Nobody like Dionne.....ONE IN A MILLION!!!

  53. j.... b....

For me, it will always be one of the saddest songs -- I used to hear it on the radio around the time of the Manson family murders in 1969, and to this day it makes me think of Sharon Tate, taken so young and so brutally.

  54. r.... m....

    lots of memories to cherish!!!

  55. .... ....

    上手いね。✨😍

  56. C.... B....

What an effortless voice. No struggles to show every octave in her range. It just flows. Completely underrated

  57. R.... W....

As much as I respect and love much of Maurice Jarre's film music, having this moving and beautiful song in the closing moments of Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" would have made those already poignant closing moments simply one of the greatest in all of cinema history.

  58. F.... B....

The only true time machine, music. Makes me sad sometimes to listen to them. I'll be 65 in November. Time marches on.

  59. t.... ....

Real instruments and singing with no over embellish. Love analog recorded music, digital playback sounds okay, but lacking

  60. M.... B....

Best rendition I've ever heard of this song. Having read all Jaclyn Susan's books, only five I believe, unfortunately, over and over through the years, I'll never stop. They always take me back to a time, where I can never go , without her words. I miss how much more we could've had with JS. The movies, I expected to be dissapointed. I couldnt have been more wrong. Lot of tears, over the years. Will never forget you......

  61. s.... d....

Didn’t she take him to court after all? They were symphonic together!

  68. W.... K....

How can drug confusion seem so orderly in this beautiful song . There is always hope.

  69. M.... ....

This is a vocalist. She makes it seem effortless and floating
    A difficult song to sing

  70. W.... H....

The theme song sung perfectly like only Dionne can sing with pure clarity and succinct diction.

  71. M.... P....

They wrote songs about life. Their lives. Our lives. Inextricably interwoven with words that touch us deeply and tunes that take us to another place. It isn't merely nostalgia. It was a special time for musicians. There are still great musicians but they have been silenced by the forced uniformity that abounds in all our media. The time of creativity has passed and probably won't return in my lifetime. Its sad, but there are still treasures to listen to, sing with, dance to and enjoy.

  72. J.... M....

Burt Bacharach was an iconic and commensurate musical composer. Dionne Warwick recorded so many of his great songs. What emotional, touching lyrics! Thank you so much ‘Laurylie Polito’ for posting the lyrics to this song. 😢👍

    J.... M....

    jackie
dont forget Hal David ....he is the lyricist on all the famous bachrach songs

    jackie
I no sooner get the words out of my mouth than I learn that this song was NOT a bachrach/david composition

thought you might like to know also

  73. P.... W....

One of the greatest pop songs ever composed! I originally thought that this song was composed by Burt Bacharach, since it is associated so much with him and his style of arranging and composing. Beautifully sung by one of the greatest female vocalist to hit the planet....Dionne Warwick.

  74. M.... J....

Every song that came on the radio by Dionne I loved, this is just one of my favorites.

  75. C.... M....

Love the movie and song a wakeup song ☺️

I love the bacharach/david songbook but this is NOT in it ...just found out myself

  84. G.... P....

Like so many songs, I first heard this when I was 12. Amazing, now I go from one room to another to get something and forget why, yet I can sing every lyric to songs from 45-50 years ago.

  85. M.... H....

    So very true.

  86. p.... ....

    "When will I know why?".....

  87. L.... C....

I forgot how beautiful she sounds.

  88. b.... ....

I think this song is so great because Dionne Warwick was honest — that takes her technical brilliance to the next level and why it touches the hearts of those who hear it. To me, emotional honesty is what is lacking in so many performers today, though it can still be found, for unknown reasons it seems to be less valued today.

  89. B.... L....

    Great tune. Cheesy movie.

  90. j.... e....

hey dark and lovely. as beautiful as a sunrise.wolfen

  91. J.... `....

  95. Y.... N....

The best singer can't find in black African American today's

  96. R.... W....

The interconnection of beauty and pain, love and loss, hope and despair are the lot of every living thing on this planet. As Bruce Cockburn wrote of our home and about us "Battered and abused and lovely". "What's in back of the sky, why do we cry". Why can't we find the common thread that we all share of being lost in a universe that never ends and that ultimately each and everyone one of us will lose everything we cherish, love and revere. Perhaps it's not in the loss but in the grace that can accompany living in the face of what appears to be hopelessness that in the end, makes life beautiful. Perhaps the art given to us by artists such as Mr's. David and Bacharach and Ms. Warwick are part of the gift that points to one thing that can make tomorrow worth waiting for, Hope.

  97. w.... ....
