Warren Zevon - Splendid Isolation Lyrics

I want to live alone in the desert
I want to be like Georgia O'Keefe
I want to live on the Upper East Side
And never go down in the street

Splendid Isolation
I don't need no one
Splendid Isolation

Michael Jackson in Disneyland
Don't have to share it with nobody else
Lock the gates, Goofy, take my hand
And lead me through the World of Self

Splendid Isolation
I don't need no one
Splendid Isolation

Don't want to wake up with no one beside me
Don't want to take up with nobody new
Don't want nobody coming by without calling first
Don't want nothing to do with you

I'm putting tinfoil up on the windows
Lying down in the dark to dream
I don't want to see their faces
I don't want to hear them scream

Splendid Isolation
I don't need no one
Splendid Isolation

Splendid Isolation
I don't need no one
Splendid Isolation

When Letterman did his last show it ended with lots of pics of many guests. Zevon had by far the most pics. I think he left quite an impression on Letterman and they were great friends.

  5. Diane Overcash

I had never heard this and I am huge WZ fan. I like it.

  8. Kat Harper

STILL [email protected], MY BOY WARREN! GONNA TELL THE WORLD SO, EVERY TIME I DO MY HIGH-SPEED FLYBY OF YOUR TOWER HERE! STILL LOVIN YA, PIANO FIGHTER!! ALWAYS...AND ALL WAYS...

  9. Kat Harper

I weary of reading/hearing about Warren's "demons". Was he a saint? Thank all the gods, NO! But Warren is so much more than the sum of his parts--he was astonishingly complex--and amazingly straightforward. One thing Warren never was, was ORDINARY. He did not suffer fools, nor did he tolerate mediocrity where it impacted him directly. Because he himself NEVER compromised, he couldn't fathom it in others. BEFORE you brand him as "Difficult", TRY to put yourself inside the Incomparable Mind which composed "Desperadoes Under The Eaves". YOU make an AIR CONDITIONER sing such a beautiful Paen of Praise for that loner staring into his empty coffee cup. THAT was WARREN sitting there, FOR REAL, people! The Man who could whisper his own failings and weaknesses, NOT down a well at High Noon, as the ancient cure for one's troubles recommends, but into an empty coffee cup. Was Warren EASY to know? Probably not, if you were blessed to be among those he called "Friend". But GOD!! It would have been WORTH the price! Worth ANY price, because, as his Friend, you would know what it is like to fly too close to the Sun.

  10. Dan Star

For all the Narcs...enjoy your splendid isolation!

  11. Shawn Gibson

  13. Kat Harper

My boy Warren, tellin it like it is! This world is so f**ked up these days, I'M "putting tinfoil up on the windows". Warren, baby, you ABSOLUTELY KNEW what you were talkin about. We could use your wisdom NOW, Piano Fighter. Miss you so much...

  14. Ostkreutz Rox

To me the meaning of this song is that it's not as if I just don't want to drive miles to that birthday party after I just helped friends move the whole day. I just don't wanna give a shit and listen to music now.

  15. Anthony Pecora

For some reason, losing Warren and Joe Strummer was like losing two friends.

Was expecting this to be a piano ballad

So to ask for help is to label yourself unfit.
    At least in societies eyes.
Can't say as that makes much sense, given what the other outcome is generally like.
Just another thing I don't see myself blindly accepting.

  35. Llaars Thelumberjack

    Later all My rides here!!

  36. Mark Elmer

This man has to be the most talented American musician ever - the genius of this guy needs to be known more widely; he’s an icon that American people should celebrate - Mr Zevon what a talent ! Surely the R&R hall of fame awaits this Art 👍

  39. heyitsjosh

Does anyone know why this song isn't available in the iTunes store?

  40. Dave Crabtree

You all miss his point that Splendid Isolation ISN'T all it's cracked up to be. He's being his usual wonderful cynical, introspective self to get that across to himself first, and then MAYBE to others

  41. The Iceman

"I'm putting tinfoil up on the windows
lying down in the dark to dream
I don't wanna see their faces
I don't wanna hear them scream."

  42. Andrew Jarvis

    Sung like a true skeptic.

  43. GRANT DAVIDSON

The reason I put the skull with my glasses on every album is because it reminds me not to take myself seriously. Most people do take themselves seriously in this job, but so as long as I have that skull wearing my glasses beaming back at me from my luggage tags and shit, it tends to remind me before it's too late, that I better lighten up a little bit."- Warren Zevon

  51. Dagro Zombie

I just wanna be left in Splendid Isolation and enjoy every sandwhich until I die.

  52. Elijah Skyeagle

I don't call Warren a genius because that's become an overused word on people undeserving even though he really is a true genius but I call him" Gifted" because I believe in God so did Warren and made his peace with Jesus I believe true gifts come from God and not only was he gifted to be able to take the pain and anguish of his soul which he used scathing wit to deal with it to keep from completely cracking up but it didn't shield him from the hell he endured but helped him recover many times and he not only had a gift to translate that ito song and music but he had another gift to perform It and put it in recording that we are richer for,ive been a singer songwriter and studio musician for 36 years with Warner Bros and I had the distinct pleasure of knowing the great talent and human being I think of him daily his atmosphere and music continue to guide me.Thank you Warren for leaving the treasure that we now enjoy.

  53. primetime591

    MrStevietRI

Zappa summed it up...."Don't you ever try to look behind my eyes, you don't wanna know what they have seen!"

  61. Sang-Shao Tbone

Just here because how much my brother loved Warren. I only have to hear a song or two and he's back here with me for a short time.

  64. Pray2Jah

The vast difference between being lonely and just wanting to be alone...pure genius

  65. Jennifer Thompson

Why is WZ not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?!!!!

    Ravin' Dave

The R&R Hall of Fame is for the 'average' rock band. Warren was special, he's way too good to be in there with musicians with only half his ability and talent.

    mike 3434

Because they're trying to hard to be politically correct.

    Llaars Thelumberjack

    Too good for it

    Bill Brasky

Because Warren punched his wife. Nobody wants to answer or ask this question, but there ya go.

  66. John Farley

He is described as a song writers favorite, great artist....miss him coming out with new stuff.

  67. John Farley

    Warren Zevon kicks ass

Absolute genius. Taken too soon but he left us a great legacy. Life Will Kill Ya as he so eloquently sang. Love you Warren!

  69. James Kidrick, Jr

My friend Felipe turned me on to this song

  70. Marcus Pennington

Zevon was the man and his music told the story of a tormented soul

    Jim Herron

But a joyful soul,as well. If anyone ever had more fun with all his life - including the painful parts - well, I've never heard or read about it. WZ was and is an inspiration to us all to enjoy every damn sandwich - live and love at full throttle every day you get.

  71. SleepyDave Davenport

  76. JamieEHill1

21 people hit thumbs down. Fucking morons.

  77. Doctor Sweetleaf

I named my online dating profile after this song. I don't get much response, but it's fine.

    sam zuriel

    Savage much?

    subcomandante marcos

@sam zuriel I really can't stand the way that people talk nowadays. "Savage much?" You've got to have a little more appreciation for the english language than to actually write a "sentence" like that. Or maybe you're one of the dummies who thinks english was just something that a bunch of dead, white men came up with and therefore not worthy of preservation.

    IAmNotAn Addict

Like it or not, language is always evolving

    subcomandante marcos

IAmNotAn Addict debasement, deconstruction and subversion are quite the opposite of evolution.

    patti Myers

    No wonder.🤗

  78. nukedukem 910

  87. John R Ziemba

I'm putting tinfoil up on the windows/lying down in the dark to dream/I don't wanna hear their voices/I don't wanna hear them scream. Great line. The true genius of this song is that it's an upbeat tempo with crushing lyrics.
