Warren Zevon - Boom Boom Mancini Lyrics
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
A lightweight contender, like father like son
He fought for the title with Frias in Vegas
And he put him away in round number one
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
When Alexis Arguello gave Boom Boom a beating
Some have the speed and the right combinations
If you can't take the punches it don't mean a thing
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
When they asked him who was responsible
For the death of Du Koo Kim
He said, "Someone should have stopped the fight, and told me it was him."
They made hypocrite judgments after the fact
But the name of the game is be hit and hit back
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon
Hurry home early - hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chacon

Warren Zevon Boom Boom Mancini Comments
Always amazed with the tender and respectful touch to Mancini by Warren Zevon. He had been called a killer and things after the Kim fight and this songs gives him justice back, "the name of the game is be hit and hit back". Warren Zevon was a great and sensitive artist.
One of the best songwriters of all time. The guy could literally write a song about anything. A gorilla, hockey player, boxer, spys you fucking name it. A true genius.
live in pa 10 minutes from youngstown. Boom Boom was so well known. He used to frequent a place where i worked quite oftenl Very nice man. I jeard this song years ago and was so shocked that someone would make a song out of this particular fight.
ManChini? 🤣
Yes, it 's got to be like that since it's an Italian family name. But in the US it' s read Man-Sini.
@Fab White 🤣 so the man doesn't know how to spell his own last name?
@Stryker Steel He spells it correctly, the kind person who put this video online misspelled it! 😉
Anyone who dislikes got their ass beat by boom boom.
Mafiaaaa
This man was...GENIUS... R.I.P
They made a documentary about Boom Boom 2 AKA Ray Mancini called "The Good Son" {available on youtube to watch for free} about his life & world champion fight/ consequences..hell it kinda changed the game forever.. they even show this song
I've been listening to Warren all afternoon and I wish he was more appreciated, but I also like that I can read all the comments, every one of them positive, in a minute or two
The last times I saw 'Bobby' he was in bad shape. He moved up in weight during his career, jump from feather to light not as much as I'd thought.
Like Bob Dylan set to music
i agree.
Jann Wenner is a dick who's keeping WZ out of the HOF for personal reasons
A menacing, take notice song. Great Zevon songwriting and playing.
Bobby 'target practice' Chacon.
you spelled Mancini wrong...
If you cant take the punches then it don't mean a thing !
Great song...I met Bobby Chacon just before he died I sang him a few bars of this song. Poor Bobby was punch drunk but he had a tear in his eye and gave me a hug..RIP Bobby and Warren
Orale Jaime
I love Warren Zevon but the 80's production on this album really sucks.
I agree. It's his least characteristic album for me. It has some good stuff but the over-production swamps it a bit.
I could not disagree more without you bob. Warren was a genius!
I understand what you mean but I don't think this has all the hateful elements normally 80's over productions display... The instruments still sound pretty natural, but I get what you mean.
I got two Christmas presents when I was a kid that I can remember...one was a 69 Charger, Dukes of Hazzard, a toy, the other a pair of ‘Boom Boom Mancini’ boxing gloves, pleather. My brother, a year younger, the same present.. We would always watch Boom Boom’s fight’s, he was Italian, we were Italian, all heart, same as Zevon..those gloves cracked by 8 am on Christmas morn’, me and my brother bleeding all over the house, my mother screaming, my father teaching us combinations..my brother just got outta the joint last week, my father is dying... Warren, your words are heavier than anyone knows... fathers and sons and wives and brothers’ eyes well up when your songs play on the jukebox at the bar on the corner
Warren had moxy and zeal and was and remains the one tunesmith I dial up for help. ..
I think Warren was a sports fan ... I remember him name dropping Dexter Manley during a show in D.C.
let's not forget, he wrote a song called "The Hockey Song"
johnny owen "the long journey" and many more
Bad ass
Zevon is the MAN!!!!
yeah, great !!
never lost that head of hair
"Intelligent" R&R. Miss this guy everyday. I nominate Warren for the R&R hall of fame...s
Steven Beau Yeah....you and the rest of the music-loving Public with any taste! Lotta good that'll do any of us. Zevon will get into the R&R Hall of Fame when unicorns live in the White House.....
"The name of the game is 'be hit and hit back'". The sport of boxing concisely condensed into 5..
Count 'em...FIVE words. That's words smithing at its most brilliant, Friends and Neighbors! That's a miniscule portion of the genius of the Irreplaceable One: My God of Music, Legend, Eternal Troubadour...
WARREN ZEVON!!! The rest of you worship whoever or whatever you like. Warren is my Deity....
I rented a motel room in my small town because they had HBO and I wanted to see Ray and Bobby fight.
Trying to find the fight to re watch it, I found this song. It rocks!
excellent choice .. boom boom was worth the room fee
It's on here. They should change the lyrics to 'Hurry or you'll miss it'.
Touched by genius, in that he's genius and it reaches in grabs me every single time.
Excellent Warren Zevon classic!
Nice song. Pity he can't pronounce "Mancini".
One of my long-time favorite lines. "Some have the speed, and the right combinations, but if you can't take the punches, it don't mean a thing ". I use that line all the time as motivation.
I like 'Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.' - Mike Tyson
You a comedian? literally?
Tears in my eyes thinking about poor Kim's son who never got to meet his father. Died trying to make his family proud of him, just so awful. RIP Kim
jnestor481 he went out on his shield. Died a warriors death. Tragic yes, but Hhe'd probably do it all over the same again. It takes a great man to keep coming forward and swinging like he did, he died a legend
I just happened to be watching that day for no reason and saw the match where Kim died. In my view, they were both walloping each other hard, and I didn't know who was going to win. Kim got laid out, and I felt it could have gone either way. I can't fault the ref who killed himself. I never watched boxing after that. Didn't watch any Tyson fights live in my youth. Pay no attention to boxing now, though my friend is a boxing journalist.
yeah he wrote on his lampshade live or die (often mistranslated as kill or be killed) the night before the fight at the hotel
jnestor481 listen to duk koo Kim by sun kil moon. And be driven to tears
This is a tremendous song. I was a mild boxing fan throughout much of the 1980s and remember Mancini well. Zevon's brilliant here.
Golden age of middleweights. Zevon was brilliant, avid reader, smart motherfucker.
I love this song. I don't even understand the words about prize fighting.
It's a battle song - you don't need to understand the words. Though it is fine if you do!
Warren's backing band on this album were the members of R.E.M
That combination was also the Hindu Love Gods.
Awesome cheers for all that info
@Contra Mundum Waddy Watchel plays this dirty, nasty, filthy slide guitar solo. Neil Young played the great solo on Sentimental Hygiene.
I saw on the record Waddy had co-writing credit on "Werewolves".
@Andrew Flowers - wikipedia just says that Waddy played acoustic guitar on "Sentimental Hygiene", "Reconsider Me" and "The Heartache" - is that wrong ?
one of my favourite boxers and singers perfect!!!!
I first heard this tune on an underground radio station in N. Dakota in the 80's, one of my favs, ever since.
Awesome song.
guitar..arrrrrrhhhh
Love this song, it's phenomenal!
A heavy-leaded song with the soul of a shrapnel-slashed heart.
is there any other way to create a song for such a bad ass fighter? .. this one is a doozy of a classic
Lucas Davis beautiful words
the greatest fight of all time was Bobby Chacon vs. Danny "Little Red" Lopez at the Sports Arena in L.A. in the 70's.
that's a damn bold statement .. and I'm quite sure several would agree !.. they don't make them like they used to that's for sure
The Leonard/Benitez fights were great as well.
Please do not forget Bobby Chacon vs Cornelius Boza Edwards: in a 10 round non title fight, Chacon knocked Edwards down 5 times. Boza Edwards knocked Chacon down 4 times. One of the great fights of all time at Lightweight, 135 lbs.
Better than all the Ward/Gatti fights? Pryor/Arguello? Thrilla In Manila? That's a bold statement you're making.
My dad took me to that fight..the golden years of boxing..the 70s
"hurry home early" just rolls right off the tongue. It's called songwriting.
Well said, this is a great story teller song for a great boxer by a great artist.
Hurry early. That's zevon for ya
Hell to the yeah
BOOM BOOM ROBERTO MANCINI GALATASARAY LOVERS WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo
