Warren Haynes - Company Man Lyrics
I started working here when I was twenty-one
Summer of '56
My life had just begun
Back then this place was some place to be
Thought I could grow with the company
Never took a dime
Never raised a fuss
Right is right
Even for those of us
Who make a dollar while the man makes ten
They say hard work pays off in the end
Everything I got
I got with my own hands
Never wanted to be no company man
So I kept my eyes open and my mouth shut
Saw my workload increase and my pay cut
But I bought a house
Started a family
Still had some faith in the company
Hard time's hit '67 late
Devil must've opened up the flood gates
My wife, she left me for some other guy
And in my heart I guess I always knew why
She was never gonna understand
Never wanted to be no company man
'79 brought a dose of reality
We'd all heard the rumours about the company
One day they shut us down
Throughout the south
And keeping my job meant moving out
So I got hired on at the local factory
Couldn't see uprooting my whole family
Never thought I'd be starting over at this stage
Taking shit from some punk
Half my age
No retirement
No hospital plan
Never wanted to be no company man
Long since retired, now, from the factory
Hardly ever think about the company
Kinda lonesome, now the kids are grown
Moved away
Families of their own
Got me a little house and a piece of land
Never wanted to be no company man
Sometimes in this world you gotta make a stand
Never wanted to be no company man

Warren Haynes Company Man Comments
At 68 years old I can soully understand this song. Never was a company man, and never did take shit from an asshole half my age, or any other man. An old man told me when I was about 19 years old, I would die a poor old fool, well my be so, but I will die with all my pride, and soul. In my mind that is Not a poor old fool. That is an all American man with a back bone. Can't take the money with you but you can take a strong back, a strong soul, and all your pride with you. Money never could buy my soul.
Welcome to Americka!!

the man / my fav. art,es / the very best .
Is he talking about the "out of body experience" that I've had in my bedroom (and on stage) a thousand times? Either he's not had the fun I've had, (doubt it) or he's talking about some greater level of improv... God damnit I thought I was good enough.. (never)
Conor Harrison you may be good enough, but warren is on a different level than most of us.
so good
Me either Warren,,,,, :)
Love this man. Him, Joe Banamassa, and Derek Trucks are just about the best blues-men/rockers in the world right now.
Bobby Osborne check out Greta Van Fleet for some Zeppelin style ROCK here in 2018
you should have a look on Jognny Gallagher, well too overrated https://www.johnnygallagher.com
Joe bona-fucking-masa he's legit
My dads story exactly. Warren you are master in every aspect of music. Best concert ive been to in many yrs. proof u dont have to become an ahole as a performer. Great interview vids prove it. Ur love shows.
Me and my b.f.f could reach to an almost out body experience. Lyrics were the way we read between the lines.
Great song, great sound here!
Hello blessings would like to know what kind of guitar is and the price thanks congratulations
Looks like a Martin 000 28 Eric Clapton. I have one, she' s about 4000€
Just like i had said i like to gab - lol - I am one who loves to put things like a better pre amp in a few cheap amps ? BUT at one time i still own this amp its a Fender 68 custom deluxe reverb it had a push pull preamp built in and i wanted to make it a foot switch like its foot switch for the reverb and the person working at the counter at guitar center had told me not to go the way that i was going i was thinking hell i done this shit before and it worked why not with this amp so i didn't take his advice i paid for the part i thought would work man was i ever wrong i didn't burn my amp up but the springs in my reverb got so hot they broke apart i went back paid for what he had advice'd and fixed the springs and the foot switch works great didn't i say i was 8 up with it Ok now to put a little history why i had asked what do i do and do you think its ok when the employees come in the sound room and start playing is ok to join in or what i'm no beginner i have been playing the guitar and bass guitar for more then 35 years most of the friends i used to play with have moved or have past away And the best time most of us had here was back in the early 80,s with a well known man named Gene Moles who was one of the best one could ever meet we would be playing all night it was the good times i am going to end it here with this i love it when a few get together and just jam it does take you places just like you have said Warren oh and the all night stuff for get it i can't do it any more bad heart but i am only 56 and love to jam to any thing that anyone would want to play OK - OK THIS IS IT FOR ME I WILL SHUT THE HELL UP and i know i can hear it now thank god. lol later
We have a Guitar Center here in Bakersfield Cal. i'm sure you all know all ready right ? anyway buying parts for guitars and amps and of course buying guitars and amps they have been the best place to go for a long time there is none better even though we still have a few guitar stores here that are helpful too but ya can't beat your prices and always the best professional advice trust me at one time i was working on a guitar amp putting in my own design of preamp i have done this before why shouldn't work on this amp his advice was to go with a different WOW SORRY this isn't what i was wanting to ask sorry now i feel i need to finish this story but that will come later for give me i'm 8 up with it lol ~ My question is ~ Many of times i have gone in the sound room were they have some of the best guitars ever made and anyone can go in there and play what ever they want and every now and then one or two of Guitar Centers employees would come in and start playing too but i would stop i am not sure what to do so i quit and walk out and get what i need and go home. ? should i have stayed is what i am asking sorry for all my B S and if ya known how i am you would under stand and again i am sorry P.S. Your fixing to find out on the next reply that i don't know how to shut up.
can you try to get matthew bellamy on this show? he is my fav
Just fantastic!
Great tune. Warren has been my go to musician for some time now. I'll be getting this CD.
Does Warren ever play or sing a bad song? um no.
LOL, HELL NO!!!!
Ummmm Nope,.... not ever!!!
Whoever the sound engineer is at GC is a real pro, they nail it every time. GJ Warren Haynes great song, probably will buy album now
+xTitan1 Well said xTitan1. From Korn to Sondgarden to Warren Hayes, they get it right every time.
I sure wish Warren filled in for Jerry instead of the phish guy, and jojo Myer.
He did, for a long time...."The Dead" tour in 2009 was Warren on lead and slide. Check out the KFOG sessions.

This is weird.. it's like looking at myself when I'm older. I just wrote a song with the same chord voicing in a different arrangement, the story is like mine, he's got the same kinda hair, chubby, eyes are close together, wearing black and playing the very acoustic I hope to get some day. I'm fuckin trippin... lol so weird.
And we both have W names. Fuckin Warren Haynes is me from the future. I know it now. lol
+WaRLoKWYATT I got the title for your song Wyatt. "Tone Wood Man". Guaranteed hit.
@MyworstEnemy Lawl
Wow. Warren is just an all around versatile and talented musician. Fantastic song.
