Everyone is so honed in on the sound and performance that nobody really commented on the videography! Killer camera work + editing, really. Even when it goes out of focus a bit the effect fits well. (like it was intentional) The lighting behind Emily has this cool lens flare effect that makes her look a bit purple at some moments. Like 01:34-36. hahah

It took me ages to notice the cracked ride cymbal. I wouldn't have ever noticed it from the sound. It somehow fits though. RIP ride cymbal, you served most faithfully.

That's not entirely right. The only part of the song that's about cutting female genitalia is the "clit cut" chant at the beginning of the song. It's an inside joke about Stella fainting when she saw a woman cut her clit off in the film "The Antichrist". But the rest of the song is about sex. "How can I keep my composure? I turn my back and you got my shoulder. Release your mind, through your hands and your feet. A sigh digs you out when you're getting too deep". Nuff said. Even the structure of the song emulates sex. It's starts off slow and then keeps getting more and more intense until the climax (Stella's drum solo) and then it mellows out at the end.

I just discovered Warpaint this week. It's been a great week. Good lord, Jenny and Stella... one of the best rhythm sections I have ever heard. Props to these ladies, what talent.

I luckily discovered them a couple of years ago. The Kills were playing at Glastonbury and my Mum called me into her room cause she knew I liked em. They were just finishing up and it cut to Warpaint. I was instantly struck and swore to look em up. I forgot their name but remembered some of the lyrics (god bless Google) and went through everything they had! I looked up early demos, live sessions, all the albums and EPs that were around at the time. I highly recommend trying to find demos and live stuff. One thing about Warpaint is they're known to change songs and alternate them, so usually by the time you've listened to some of the live stuff it can sound a lot better live. These girls really need more attention! :D

I really like them too, but, "they're known to change songs and alternate them [during live sessions]" is about the least unique description of a band ever.

Stella is easily one of the best drummers around, PERIOD! She is so creative and on point without missing a knock. Jenny is, likewise, an excellent bassist.

Well I can't even picture it. It's just too terrible and so real for many girls in the world. 

The reason they are saying "the clit cut" is because as they were watching the Antichrist film, Stella (the drummer) passed out when the girl cut her clit off. So they added "The clit cut, the cut what! How can I keep my composure with the clit cut?!" chant to the beginning of the song as a joke, but it was catchy so they kept it.

If that is true then the drummer is rather squeamish

It's also a more general reference to FGM that is still unfathomably practised around the world today on young girls. How can we keep our composure when millions of girls (and boys) are being ritually mutilated, often by their own family members and without anaesthetic or any guard against infection?

the sound you are hearing is in the mixing and recording ... nothing special about the Bass playing.

Warpaint's bass sound is still dope on normal soundboard recordings of festivals where it doesn't receive any special attention. Probably on audience recordings too if they have anyone taping the shows with a nice microphone/preamp combo the way jam band shows do. But I'm not aware of anyone doing that.

Special techniques and clever bassline ideas aren't necessary to make a bassist fit well into their band.

Tomorrow I should visit their concert, I've been looking forward to for 6 months. It was cancelled 

first time to listen this song in live version. Freaky awesome.

Every time I watch this video I scroll down after its ended so I can laugh at the barrage of comments asking what they chant. If only people would scroll a little further they would find the answer to that question over and over again. The misheard lyrics get more and more stupid. It went from stuff about clean cuts to shit about cocks. Bwhahaha. Beyoooooooooooooooooond dumb.
