Wariner, Steve - By Now Lyrics
By now she's putting on her makeup
Bet she's been crying all night long
By now her heart is surely breaking
Just like this cold gray Georgia dawn
'Cause she can't make it on her own
By now she thinks I really miss her
But I've hardly noticed she was gone
And any minute now that phone is gonna ring
She'll say let's work it out somehow
But time keeps dragging on, what's taking her so long?
I should've heard from her by now
By now she's slipped into her night gown
By now she needs someone to hold her
And I know she's wishing I was there
And any minute now that phone is gonna ring
And she'll say let's work it out somehow
But time keeps dragging on, what's taking her so long?
I should've heard from her by now
By now I know how much I love her

AMAZING
I wished that radio stations would play his music again, much better than the crap you hear on the radio today.
He is awesome, and one of my all time favorites!!
He is an awesome lead guitarist and singer!
you pushed me away I shouldn't have got involved so many regrets in these 2 years o was stupid for giving Michael Hawkins of independence the time of day what a con
Guitar man, just a pup when Dottie West hired him
this song went to #6 on the country charts in 1981!!!
Steve Wariner is SO talented--and not too bad to look at!😊💒
By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising
She'll find the note I left hangin' on her door
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leavin'
'Cause I've left that girl so many times before
By the time I make Albuquerque she'll be working
She'll prob'ly stop at lunch and give me a call
But she'll just hear that phone keep on ringin'
Off the wall that's all
By the time I make Oklahoma she'll be sleepin'
She'll turn softly and call my name out loud
And she'll cry just to think I'd really leave her
Tho' time and time I try to tell her so
She just didn't know I would really go.

Steve is one of the most underrated singers to ever hit Nashville.
Great song!
How can someone say exactly word for word what's on and in my mind
Wow, I haven't heard this in years, since I was a kid. It's beautiful and was one of my favorites of Steve Warner. Thank you for posting this.
One of mine as well of course
Reminds me of "By the time I get to Phoenix ".....And that's a good thing !
........and All roads lead to you is similar to Wichita Lineman...and Kansas City Lights is like Galvastan. I remember reading an article years ago, that was deliberate. Same order of release, too

that is exactly what i was going to post! :)
@BirdLady68 And Glen Campbell's later records sounded a lot like Steve's. Like "Still Within the Sound of My Voice."
*"By Now" or "BUY NOW"?*
Great sales song to play in the background in the closing room.
He says 'buy now' 9 times.
I love Steve Wariner. I remember in '81/'82 when he was new I was only11 and spent my allowance on buying his cassette tape and listened to it about 25 times a day. He's soo cute too.
He had been out for five years by then🤣
good song!! Steve was one of the greatest!
He Still Performs & Sounds As Good As He Did When You Remember "Amber" Ty For Your Comment I'm A Close Friend.
I love this one thanks steve it just made my day
love the song love steve wariner.
So awesome
I have listened to and loved this guys music for atleast 25 years!!!!!! Saw him at Ca state fair and he was great
Yes!! Had this on a cassette in the 80's
@John Breen: Yes, you're absolutely right. What a great song. The loneliness in those lyrics is what gets to me. Every time, never fails. I grew up on late 70s, early 80s country music. ... Yeah, I miss it, too.
Sorry, need my glass should have been why "can't".
Why we have good Country Music like this anymore? What's happened !!!
it died after 89
I love all his songs !!!!!
What a voice.
What a fantastic song....One of my favorites of his!
Stop what you're doing, close your eyes and just lose yourself in this song. See if it doesn't put an ache in your heart and get some still waters flowing that were long dormant. It's arguably the best three minutes you'll ever spend.
God, it still gives me chills to this day.
I remember this time... Beautfiul songs, upstate NY 1050 WHN Country... Terri Gibbs, Mac Davis, Waylon Jennings, Eddie Rabbit, Steve Wariner, Dolly, James Taylor, Charlie Pride, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Milsap, Crystal Gale, Oak Ridge Boys, Emmylou Harris, Barbara Mandrell, Conway Twitty, Christy Lane, Donald Williams, Juice Newton, etc....... I've left out quite a few, but this music lives on... 70's going into the early 80's was country heaven...
You're' right! That time was the ultimate for country music!
He's still singing/performing.
ACC's #59 song of '81. God bless ya, brother Steve! Thanx for postin' it. Have a blessed week!
This song sounds like a tribute to Glen Campbell's " By the time I get to Phoenix" and I love it.
an oldie but goodie from Steve... he was so cute... shame he is still not singing...
DERedhead65 Steve is still singing and touring.
oh to go back to real country music. his voice is so smooth. he is my dream man.
Very 1st song by Steve I remember hearin'. Thanx to 'American country countdown' for playin' it. Hit #6 in Billboard. God bless you, brother Steve!
Steve early albums always make me think of Glen Campbell. This song is like "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Your Memory" sounds like "Southern Nights", "Kansas City Lights" is like "Galveston" and "All Roads Lead to You" is like "Wichita Lineman".
Ironically, Glen Campbell put out a bunch of songs in the 80s that sounded like Steve's stuff, once Steve had developed his own style.
He even had the same producer as Steve and recorded a duet with him.
This song came out in the spring of 1981...reminds me of my very first DJ job...WONW1280 Defiance, Ohio. I remember the song well. I was nervous opening up my mic. Steve's voice 'soothed' my nerves. Thanks Steve. GREAT SONG MAN!!!
beautiful voice
One of my FAVORITE Steve Wariner songs. This guy has so much talent and yet he is so underrated. Would Love to see him perform live.
i've lived every word of this song
I remember when this album came out, even though I was just 11 years old. I'm now almost 37 and it's still a great song as well as the whole album. Thanks for the memories.
THANK YOU!!!
