War On Drugs, The - Thinking Of A Place Lyrics

It was back in Little Bend that I saw you
Light was changing on the water
Where birds above had flown
There was pain in your eyes
So you vanished in the night
Missouri River in the distance
So I lied upon the lawn

I remember walking against the darkness of the beach
Love is like a ghost in the distance, ever-reached
Travel through the night 'cause there is no fear
Alone but right behind till I watched you disappear

I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
Just moving with the moon
And the light it shines
And I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Just moving through the dark

Once I had a dream I was falling from the sky
Coming down like running water
Passing by myself alight
In the morning, I would wake to the sound of someone's voice
Like little whispers through the silence

I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
And I'm looking at the moon
And the light it shines
But I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Oh, the suffering of love

Come and take my hand, babe
There's a turn in the road that we've been taking
Let it set you free
Because there's a rhythm in the way that we've been moving
Yeah, there's a darkness over there, but we ain't going

See it through through my eyes
Walk me to the water
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Love me every night
Drown me in the water
Hold my hand as something turning me
See it through my eyes
Love me like no other
And hold my hand as something turns to me
And turns me into you

Lead me through the night
Pull me from the water
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Turns me into you
Just see it through my eyes
Love me like no other
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Turns me into you
Turning me
Into you

First time I heard this song I was on a ski resort. I was working there doing the late shift until midnight, we had a massive snow storm and we had to spend the night at the hotel. The Disco pub was for the rest of the employees, no costumers, drinking and listening music and then I heard this song meantime the snow was falling and falling. I can guarantee that this song blew my mind until today... MASTERPIECE! :)

  20. J.... J....

Late night in Holbox island, Mexico. My wife is sleeping after long, adventurous day. Huge palms swinging in the wind and their shadows painting walls of our room. I repeating this song ten, twenty times and cant stop smilling in my thoughts.

  21. J.... R....

    Shit the bed, some tune

  22. P.... T....

    Beautiful,absolutely beautiful

  23. J.... J....

I can genuinely forget about all my problems with this song

  24. A.... R....

This was the first song I ever listened of these guys... it was on the radio on a sunday afternoon here in México. I was with my dad and sister in the car, I was in the backseat. I remember I had my headphones on listening to another thing, but then I heard this and turned them off. It was perfect. Then I started searching for more of their stuff and find out "A deeper understanding" and it changed my life.

The best part about a song, or music in general, is that when you find a band that really resonates with your soul you can keep their music for the rest of your life. That's the gift The War On Drugs gave me.

    Thank u guys.

  25. W.... S....

Thinking of a better song.... nope, there isn't one.

I was visiting my mom in Florida when I first heard this song. It was difficult for me to be there, knowing she had very little time left. I flew home on December 1st and she passed away on the 4th. Now when i hear this song i can still picture my time there with her. Its like a visual aid for my last precious moments with her. Love this song, love you mom. I'm thinking of a place.

I remember hearing this first when i was in the car, riding home with my family. We went ice skating, it wasn't really my thing so me and my stephdad went to drink hot choclate milk at a café. Wachting my younger Brother and sister skating. We Danced at the music they played and looking for books at the bookstore with my mom. Gosh i loved that day. It maybe wasn't anything special. But just being there was fun....

  61. A.... R....

08:00 i love that bass line. Sick!

  62. p.... ....

This band is going down as one of the greats. This kind of music is happening all while the Billboard top 100 has almost zero actual bands and the music is hyper souless. Maybe people can find their way back.

  63. Q.... C....

Sometimes you have to reach out. Through a digital universe. You will never know Elle how hard I tried. I know you tried. You tried your little heart out. Our dreams were never enough for this real world. It was always impossible, us. But damn did we ever grow in to towering pines while our fingers were clasped for eternity. Love me every night my love.

    Q.... C....

Why will Elle never know? What happened ?

    Q.... C....

Violet Snow oh how I wish it was as easy as just an explanation. Violet, just know that I drifted through life thinking I had finally found a sense of what life was universally about. I thought I had figured out the path that would lead me to the calm, cool waters of redemption and a sense of ease about the big unknown. About death. About all those things that we wonder all while looking skyward. Then, she walked in to my life. A crimson streak across a blank palette. I never could have imagined in a million lifetimes I would have felt what we cultivated in such a short time. She lit up the world. The grass grew greener by the day each day she reached out and we touched. Violet, it is not what happened, but what existed when we finally fell in love. It’s simply a small scar in the universe of love on this beautiful planet. I can only hope that you have felt it in this life.

  64. O.... W....

It doesn't matter if I am stuck in my cubicle, in traffic or in life. When I put this on, I am laying under a tree which overlooks a shimmering stream and a golden wheat field. 82. D.... K....

So thankful that this lasts for 11minutes.

  83. H.... Z....

May be once or twice in a decade there comes a band which transcends the music to levels beyond perfection, the composition is rough around the edges reminiscent of a touch only a Master of the Art render and every word perfectly string together in a poetic pearl necklace that mesmerises you soul, something that reminds you why you originally fell in love with the art form.

  84. J.... C....

People who love this aren't high on drugs, there high on life ❤️

  85. V.... 1....

    Such a cool tune.

Bob Dylan meets dire straits. I still loathe dire straits though but Love War on Drugs.

  92. L.... P....

Hello, what would you put alongside this track on a playlist?

    L.... P....

This whole album is lit, also their album Lost in the Dream & definitely give a listen to This Empty Northern Hemisphere by Gregory alan Isakov.

    L.... P....

Sorry I am late. I would put their song "Disappearing" next to this one. They go good together and that would make about 18 minutes of this haunting, deep feeling beat.

  93. T.... A....

Just heard this on the radio for the first time WOW FOOOOOKIN WOW absolutely awesome

I sit and think wow it amazes me there is at least 3million ppl in America that like good meaningful music then I realize oh yeah this site is world wide and of that 3million people with great taste probably only a handful come from America... Sad they too busy listing to a crappy rap that's over some catchy beat like toddlers watching Barney shit.

  98. d.... ....

Your back turned away from me... Made my heart sink :/ i wish we could have spent more time together

  99. G.... L....
