War On Drugs, The - An Ocean In Between The Waves Lyrics
Run away, I'm a travellin' man
Been working every day
I watch you as you hesitate
Walking through the rain
They try to redefine
Everything that I know and love
Gotta know you're mine, yeah
Feel the way that the wild wind blows through the room
Like a nail down through the heart
That just don't beat the same anymore
That might as well be gone
I'm in my finest hour
It always gets so hard to see
Right before the moon
Far away Ma, there's a black sun risin' overhead
As it moves through the midnight rain
How can I surround myself in time and time again?
How can I be free?
Just wanna lay in the moonlight
And see the light shine in, see you in the outline
It never gets too dark to find
Anybody at anytime
I'm at the darkened hillside
And there's a haze right between the trees
And I can barely see you
You're like an ocean in between the waves

if there is a better song than this, please tell me what it is
ripped off Billy Idol
me gusta la verga
this band is like the shimmering waves of the gulf of mexico at dusk while a cool breeze blows and your eyes meet across the shore.
2:34 i fucking love that solo!
does anyone knows any other bands with that same type of solo?
For an overwhelming guitar sound listen also to:
ZZ top : Pincushion
depeche mode : I feel you
U2 : The fly
Heard this a few months back walking past a restaurant in St Perersburg FL. Thankful I did been listening to it ever since! The War on Drugs never disappoint🤘🏻
Awesome song!!
He cheated on me
To quote a friend of mine: "Somewhere in a parallel universe, this song keeps going on forever..."
freaking love when he say WAHOOOOOOO YEAHHH
This song just builds and builds. Its great! I can picture horses going hell for leather through the snow
Phil Gates dude amazing comment! Yes!
BEST. SONG. EVER.
This is a perfect example of a unified album....listen to one song then you find yourself listening to the rest of the album....not a lot of them out there these days.
materpiece
the bass sounds like it borrows from the way u2 produces its bass... :)
Quite possibly one of the best tunes I've ever heard, and man... there's been a few. Brilliant ❤️
Can't wait for the day they will tour Europe, I want to see them live so badly!
Indeed!
this shit hard
Guitars on this tune are insane!!!
Takes me back to listening to classic 60's rock in the 80's
Excellent music. The only problem is that it sounds like a band is trying to emulate the Dire Straits. I cannot appreciate a band for just emulating another. There's no originality. That's impossible to appreciate.
I learned to appreciate Knopfler & Dire Straits even though he was emulating the late, great American songwriter, J.J. Cale. Just exactly what DO you appreciate? We all stand on the shoulders of giants.
@flyingfishsurf Being influenced by someone is not equivalent to emulation. Radiohead is also inspired by Bjork but that does not mean the former's music sounds identical to that of the latter. If it did, I would just listen to either of them and not both. I did not know Knopfler was influenced by J.J Cale. If Knopfler does sound identical to Cale, then I would throw Knopfler out as well. I don't care how high profile the musician is. If he is not able to give us something unique and of his own, he does not deserve praise for his music. You can praise him for his dedication in celebrating Dire Straits though. That's a completely different matter altogether.
I am just being honest.
i often think if bruce springsteen and dire straits had a baby it would sound like this band.
every song is soo damn powerful! <3
Would love to see how a video from this song would turn out.
This album [2014] and Holy Holy -- When the storm would come.[2015] and also The Bony King of Nowhere -- silent days [2018] are very the same but very good.
simplemente me encanta este tema, me captó el estilo musical de la banda
New find in 2019. Hidden gem, such a rush.
Excuse me while I kiss the sky again !!!
I can feel myself floating, really love this song 🙂
Dire Straits
My brother got me this album on record for my family’s record player. I have loved the war on drugs ever since. ( I’m only 17, and most people say I’m not with my generation because I don’t like rap, country, or pop.)
my new best band ever!
A song to inspire confidence!
Can someone recommend songs like this one??
2:14 and the other chorus are my favorite parts, barely above the rest, of course, but god damn love that chorus.
Alguien en el 2019
Sounds like Dire Springsteen btw: this band is amazing for sure !
Good songs to go walking and get up doing things. Positive vibes.
Starting drum beat is "Take on Me" Aha 80's
Springsteen/ Dire Straits / Bob Dylan mix — epic sound - love them - glad to have seen them in Dublin in June 18 after 6 year wait 😃
I hear songs like Rod Stewart's YOUNG TURKS in this song..has to be a bit of an influence in there..cracking song.
This song looks like when you’re driving far away to the middle of nowhere.....
They’re great but genius isn’t decided by passive listeners
They mostly use open chords, super basic and easy patterns that aren’t above or different to pop
You’re impressed with the production as am I but yeah
They’re not the great music you think, you just obviously don’t know any instruments haha
But they’re great
Love the groove so much...this is music folks..can't get any better than this!
this band is freakin amazing
This music in a good earphone....
The only thing that can makes me cry is this song. Don't know why, how to explain... Just tears.
I have that feeling that Universe made this song for me.
And i had that feeling when i was listening to for the first time, knowing nothing about the band.
Thank you.
album of the decade.
That moment at 01:49 when they volume up the drums.... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
eocha24 feel the weight, like a wild wind blows through the room 😎
Always get a Bruce Springsteen vibe :)
Mother fucking song, just discovered it this week. Can't stop playing it on repeat.
so... no one hears a strong Don Henley influence here?
Thank you u tube were all so lucky to listen to this wonderful music
Hostia, soy yo o estas melodias me abrazan tanto que no dejo de escucharlas??...
I was at a Books Actually in Singapore browsing for books for lyrical inspiration. Think it was a thunderstorm outside (which happens quite frequently in Singapore), and i was alone in the bookshop. And then this song was played. It was quite magical. I googled the lyrics and the thought the band name was ironic (you know, War on Drugs, in Singapore), and the title turned out to be the inspiration i was looking for. Fell in the love with the band immediately
314 simple people.
Sounds a bit like a Dylan song from the Oh Mercy era - with a young, sweet & clean voiced singer as Bob. Meant that as a compliment.
Great band. Hi from Scotland
epic.......classic
Im in love with this song..long but still short..
fu..... fantastic
somehow I always think of a certain afternoon 10 years ago, where I was < 30, driving my first car and having the utter faith that everything, really everything is possible in my lifetime.
One of the best lead guitar riffs I have heard in a long time. Song has great rhythm as well.
Why can I only like this once...?
I don't know if I know any songs like this one, there is just something so unique, so freeing, so exhilarating about it. PERFECTION.
It never gets too dark to find anyone at anytime ... just don’t want the song to end.
unbelievable ! fucking awsome
How much did they have to pay Bob Dylan to imitate his voice.
On another note, when you hit "thumbs up", its about the video. More emphasis on the song, please.
A bit of The Edge, but perhaps that's the way things go these days. I've found a renewed interest.
There is something so unique about this song... it gives you such a sense of FREEDOM and EXHILARATION like few other!
This song, and the outro in particular, is absolutely epic.
amazing song
Outstanding !
Heard this while strolling around today, fantastic track.
what´s the diference between this, red eyes and under the pressure ?? xd
the new perfect song for the new rock era... it's amazing how it gets inside you
This is one of my favourite songs of all time, not even kidding. Listen to the KEXP version too - amazing! I can't recall the number of times I have listened to it, it never gets old and each time I love it more. FUCK. ING. TUNE.
muy buenoooªªª!!!!!!
Jebeno briljantno ...
Superb musicians and a great song
Grammy winners and earned it!! This band rocks BIG !!
One of my all time favorite songs. The emotion in it is huge and the outro is just so raw. Finally got to hear this live last week and it was overwhelming.
This entire album is brilliant.
Mon seigneur ça démonte
Son las 3: 51 de la mañana y estoy practicando física con esta canción. Ahh ! Bellos recuerdos cuando publicaron la canción
Can I be more than just a fool...
dire straits
