Wanda Jackson - Midnight Turning Day Blues (Blue Yodel No.6) Lyrics

He left me this morning midnight was turning day
He left me this morning midnight was turning day
I didn't have no blues till my good man went away

Got the blues like midnight moon shining bright as day
I got the blues like midnight moon shining bright as day
I wish a tornado would blow my blues away

One of these mornings I'm gonna leave this town
One of these mornings I'm gonna leave your town
'Cause you're trifling me and it can really keep a good gal down

I got the blues like midnight moon shining bright as day Lord Lord
Got the blues like midnight moon shining bright as day
I wish a tornado would blow my blues away

Jimmie Rodgers is really the grandfather of rockabilly music. Without him, country music would’ve never became what it did. No Jimmie, no hank, no Roy Acuff, no bill monroe, Hell, no Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis. He was the best and still is. Wanda did him justice

A Great Jimmie Rodgers Song.  Jimmie Rodgers was the singer to combine Country Msuic and Black Blues Music. Wanda Jackson does a great job on this song.

we do. her name is EmiSunshine. Patty Loveless and Marty Stuart have both come out these last few weeks and said they think Emi is going to save/carry forward real country music. she's about to play the Grand Ole Opry for the 3rd time. she is 10.

  59. W.... B....

My older brother George was lucky enough to see Wanda years ago.

  60. H.... ....

Sounds a lot like The TB blues..Love it

  61. A.... B....

I assume you are referring to the country singer Stonewall Jackson rather than the Confederate general Stonewall Jackson. (The general is the better known of the two.)

  68. b.... ....

wanda has quite a few more yodels in her repertoire inc "`Jesus Put a Yodel in my Soul" "Then I Start to Yodel" & "Cowboy Yodel".

  69. b.... ....

hank hamm, the book is $26.50 on amazon + free shipping. but yea, books, especially big thick ones have gotten pricey. kindle is definitely a good alternative...

  70. H.... H....

I would love to have that book but it is a bit pricey at $ 37.00
for a paperback. The Kindle version is only 9.99 from Amazon.

  71. b.... ....

Wanda is interviewed & profiled [with photo] in the new book YODEL IN HIFI: From Kitsch Folk to Contemporary Electronica: uwpress.wisc.edu/books/4594.htm

  72. B.... ....

One person mistook 'Blue Yodel' for 'Blue Yoda'.

  73. i.... ....

    blues like midnight

  74. t.... ....

Oh My God! Wanda rocks my world.
Saw her in Ventura this summer......

  75. M.... B....

    This song is cool.. tasty

  76. A.... B....

Sounds plausible. I suspect that Jimmie Rodgers was inspired musically by the blues he heard his black railroad co-workers singing. The Carter Family is highly revered in country music, but Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, and even Johnny Cash were more actively influenced by Jimmie Rodgers.

  77. C.... ....

Is she going to do Jimmy Rodgers' whole Blues Yodel series? That would be fun.

  78. h.... ....

Need to listen to original vinyl with good speakers to do it justice, great stuff!

  79. K.... D....

    She even Yodels sexy

  80. K.... D....

Wow shes a Great Blue Yodeler.I like her yodeling songs better than her hits like Right Or Wrong,Im In The Middle Of A Heartache, which were good but these are GREAT.

  81. j.... ....

I also grew up in Montana. Maybe that's why we like yodeling.

  82. J.... J....

Oh this yodel brings back memories of my Montana youth. Had a wired thought, what if some rapper broke into a yodel riff in the middle of the rap. That would rattle some cages.

  83. t.... ....

There's a performance of this song on her recent album, "The Party Ain't Over" produced by Jack White.

  84. B.... ....

Stonewall is NOT dead, born 11/06/1932, STILL join' strong!

  85. b.... ....

Nice stuff. She sure was pretty. I remember her in her prime and as I recall she was kind of a wild child in country music and was frowardness upon by some. I like her voice. Thanks for the post. Old Jimmy sure had some great stuff out. Another great who died way to young. My dad was an alcoholic but a nice gentle guy. He loved Jimmy Rodgers stuff ad bought old 78's when he should have been buying food for the family. Drowned when I was 2. My mom told me about him.

  86. S.... L....

Love love love Wanda Jackson. I grew up on your music and now my daughter who is 18 just covered this song on youtube.... She loves you too!!! Would love to meet you!

  87. D.... C....

    @SpaceCowboy641
There's a country singer; a former Grand Ol Opry member, still very much alive if long past his career peak, named Stonewall Jackson. Don't count too much on common knowledge.

  88. l.... ....

Wanda sings a good blues song too, sample(Weary Blues from Waiting)

  89. s.... ....

those were natural beauties not the new plastic surgery freaks

  90. E.... ....

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN EVERY WAY.

    THE QUEEN.

  91. B.... F....

Thanks for posting,,,,my kind of music,,,thank you miss Jackson...KOP...Bill

  92. l.... ....

Great version, my favorite. Thanks for downloading. Couldn't find a Jimmie Rodgers version on YouTube. Is a Rodgers rendition available?
I play blues harmonica (cross harp) and Jimmie Rodgers tunes play real well. Real blues, even if it is labeled country. Interestingly, a scholarly paper on the origins of the blues puts forth the theory that the blues and country music crystallized in close to their current form in the Mississippi Delta area at about the same time, around 1900.

  97. W.... K....

I can't find "Wanda Jackson sings Jimmie Rodgers" on her discographies. On what album does this song appear? Was it ever released as a 45? My collection must have it! Thanks.
