Wall, Colter - Sleeping On The Blacktop Lyrics
Sunshine beating on the good times
Moonlight raising from the grave
String band playing worn out honkey-tonks
Pretty young thing going dancing in the rain
Business man with a needle and a spoon
Coyote chewing on a cigarette
Pack o' young boys going howlin' at the moon
Hey darlin'!
Sleeping on the blacktop
Hey darlin'!
Running through the trees honey
Hey darlin'!
Leaving for the next town
Three dead in a crash on the number 4
Two witnesses below and up high
Not sure whose will be done
You can call me a sinner for wondering why
Hey darlin'!
Sleeping on the blacktop
Hey darlin'!
Running through the trees honey
Hey darlin'!
Leaving for the next town
Less'n my sense catches up with me
Corn liquor tastes sweeter in this town
Could it be it's the same as the last?
I swear I've seen ya face elsewhere before
Just as familiar as a bottle and a glass
Hey darlin'!
Sleeping on the blacktop
Hey darlin'!
Running through the trees honey
Hey darlin'!
Leaving for the next town
Less'n my sense catches up with me

Reminds me of Johnny Cash so much
The killing of two lovers brought me here thanks clayne
This is one those songs that's sound great but makes no sense lyrically
I think it does to certain ears based on life experinces so depends who hearing ot cuz makes alot of sense to me relatable
It would have been better with all the background drums and clapping. That bass, is to harsh for this song, the clapping could have been softer or not at all something different. In the beginning it's sound is authentic, but when that base hits it's like it clashed with some odd new aged stuff. Other than that beautiful.
He does appalachian country well, especially for being a Canadian.
Don't chase me
Reminds me of old Johnny cash
YEE YEE
the live version is so much better. that clap track has to go

Perfect song while playing RDR2
Here because of camaron hane's instagram.
So he's singing "High heel lady spitting at the nickajack, business man with a needle and a spoon". That's funny, because I always thought it's "bringing smile with a needle and a spoon"
Siugi that line would work to.

I don't know what he did as a 20 something to get his vocal chords to sound that raw and weathered, but sign me up. I am guessing poor health comes along with it, that's ok...
Damn this guy is good.
If I don't get this song playing during the middle of a "15 guys are about die RIGHT now" scene in a big action movie with slo mo bullets flying everywhere then I'm going to shit myself

I love the fact that i was listening to this song on the way home from school, passed acouple of kids listening to modern rap. They legit- paused their shit and said."I like your music man". Lmao
Hell yeah brother! Teach them lost souls about real art my brother. God bless
r/thathappened
Well. I mean. Rap and this type of song write about the same ideals of struggle and decay.
The mood of the song is conveyed musically, but the lyrics are a shoo in for understanding the meaning of the piece right?
I listen to a lot of hardcore punk for the same reason why I listen to rap and folk. Because of the meaning of the song.
You should try that "modern" bullshit. A lot of it is amazing.
But you're just a kid, so you probably try to define yourself through your music rather than letting your music compliment who you already are.
Oh and for the record, the reason "country" sucks so much ass is because a lot of it is vapid and devoid of feeling imo. Like pop or certain fad chasing groups in indie/alt genres.
Tried learning the guitar rythem and melody for this by ear. Harder than i thought. Like hella hard.
ripped off Country Morning Music but, like, who cares? #brilliant
A snap track that isn’t bad finally
In the summertime its a whole different monster.
If only all country sounded as cool as this.
I brought myself here.
This should be in red dead 2
i've never really liked country, but this is just awesome
