Walker, Scott - The Ballad Of Sacco And Vanzetti Lyrics

Father - yes, I am a prisoner
Fear not, to relate my crime
The crime is loving the forsaken
Only silence is shame

Blessed are the persecuted
And blessed are the pure in heart
Blessed are the merciful
Blessed are the ones who mourn

"Give to me your tired and your poor
Your huddled masses, yearning to be free
The wretched refuge of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless"
- send this task to me

And now I'll tell you
What's against us
And aught that's lived for centuries
Go through the years
And you will find
What's blackened all
Of the history

Father, yes I am a prisoner
Only silence is...
Shame

Walker, Scott The Ballad Of Sacco And Vanzetti Comments
  1. B.... ....

The lyrics to this song was written by Joan Baez if I'm not mistaken, however the music was composed by Ennio Morricone.

This is the original version, which is far superior IMO.

An interesting fact is that both Baez and Walker were born on January 9th.

    Belle version de Scott Walker

  7. t.... ....

My favourite version. Great for playing loud to blast away the complacency in a Western household! Vinyl is best for this.

  8. W.... T....

What a staggeringly underrated track from Scott. Wonderfully uplifting.

  9. h.... ....

Being in WI and contemplating the Scott Walker we know here singing this is just weird...

  10. M.... ....

This is a song from the lowest part of his career, and although I like this particular song, it was not written by Scott himself. He gave that up for multiple years after Scott 4 flopped. If you want to check out music that the young Scott Walker wrote, however, I'd recommend you to check out the albums Scott 3 and Scott 4, which are great. The more "out there" stuff started with the first 4 tracks of Nite Flights (from the Walker Brothers) and subsequent solo albums: Climate of Hunter, Tilt etc

I listen to a lot of music, and '5 Classic Albums' is one of the best things I've ever bought. I found his old stuff through his new stuff.

  11. F.... S....

    odd dissonances in this song
