Walker, Scott - Boy Child Lyrics

You'll lose your way
A boy child rides upon your back
Take him away
Through mirrors dark and blessed with cracks
Through forgotten courtyards
Where you used to search for youth
Old gets a new life
Reach out you can touch it's true
He's not a shadow of shadows
Like you, you see
Hearts hold on holding
If you stay one, you'll stay free

Go seek the lady
Who will give, not take away
Naked with stillness
On the edge of dawn she stays
Night starts to empty
That's when her song begins
She'll make you happy
She'll take you deep within
Window lights for wanderers
Hide hard in your swollen eyes
Echoes of laughter
Hide in the cities thighs

Love catch these fragments
Swirling through the winds of night
What can it cost
To give a boy child back his sight
Extensions through dimensions
Leave you feeling cold and lame
Boy child mustn't tremble
'cos he came without a name

  11. J.... D....

Scott walker went into music history as one of the most beautiful baritone voices America hardly Knew. The sun ain't gonna shine anymore.

    J.... D....

    So beautifully said, Mr Daniel.

  12. M.... R....

I don't usually like his romantic style, but it works here in this song accompanied with some good music, especially that beautiful exotic sound - what instrument is that? ... Similar to a dulcimer?

    M.... R....

    Hammered dulcimer?

  13. C.... T....

Evocative, like mist in the distance...

  14. m.... s....

RIP Scott Walker , singer, poet, visionary.

This one became way more harder to listen to since today but it is humanity highest high manifesto confirming the infinity of the soul, raised in absolute.

  29. M.... S....

a day of birth … a boy child is to b e born today ….. not to li v e long... the dream gone …. months hoped for not to b e … yours to hold ...

  30. M.... S....

the play a child finds in a world of pretend........ being what he or she sees....... reliving and being the ones they see...... thinking that is what life is ........ the play of adults living and children seeing how we live.... and pretending to be us......in play......

  31. A.... S....

Stunning Beauty. One of my fav songs of all time

  32. S.... G....

I can hear the influence on early Dead Can Dance. Where has this magic and mystery gone in modern music?

    S.... G....

    cocteau twins too

    S.... G....

    Saint George z

  33. P.... P....

Utterly brilliant Scott track, and he is making music just as good today, incredibly, as here, forty-five years later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hee4kiv-fk&list=PLyazXRwqeJPP9rUvgZWRsi7gQpMc6NO9Z&index=34

  34. f.... c....

Sorry I never confused him with the other guy , I just assumed he was of the athiest ilk by his sentiments. His new music fills peoples minds with depression and pictures of evil deeds. Similar to the new genre most popular. Forgive me if I thought he colluded , if unintentially it would seem he prefers to enhance that type of artistic flow to the media.

  35. g.... m....

    Scott is searching...

    g.... m....

    me thinks

  36. f.... c....

I suppose you're right, thanks for your comment , bought The Drift , wow. The world is sometimes a pretty evil place, this cd captures that essence, pretty much the antithesis of boy child in my mind, not one i'll be listening to again . One for the charity shop, why keep depression t yerself. (joking)

  37. L.... W....

I think the most beautiful song Ive ever heard.

  38. b.... ....

I want to float through the farthest regions of outer-space to this song.

  39. S.... M....

A wonderful voice a gift from God.
Love the songs still after all these years.

    S.... M....

"God"? How ridiculous. Give the man the credit due. The garden - his art - is beautiful enough without needing to believe there are fairies at the bottom of it.

    S.... M....

    @Powell Pressburger grow up

  40. d.... ....

This represents aural and lyrical ecstasy to me. Simply stunning, mesmerising, beautiful.

  41. C.... P....

    !!!¡¡¡

  42. v.... ....

I sure would still like to meet him... just to tell him thank you for such beautiful music.... hey Guida, how are you????

  43. m.... ....

    Christmas :-)

  44. I.... B....

Reminds me a bit of Anthony and the Johnsons.

  45. a.... ....

The eeriest most beautiful piece of music ever.

    a.... ....

That comes 26 years later. Heh.

  46. l.... ....

    SIEMPRE LO SERE...

    l.... ....

Frente a la figura y obra de Scott Walker, gran parte de las frivolidades de la vida pierden sentido. Te recuerda quién realmente eres. Te cuestiona en qué momento ocurrió tu extravío, y qué lo provocó. Me pone en mi sitio.

  47. c.... ....

I personally think this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded

    jim

    c.... ....

Absolutely agree. I want Scott Walker singing this at the pearly gates for me. Right up there with Lisa... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGmvXGBBfjs

    c.... ....

is one of the most etereal song ever

    c.... ....

It's certainly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard... those strings get me every time

    c.... ....

Cannot agree enough with you sir!

  48. t.... ....

Melancholy, sweet, sublime...like drops of water from icicles on a grey winter's day.  Poignant and beautiful.

  49. f.... c....

Please forgive me but I must say that rarely for me  can most  secular music come close to  the Divine . This one hits the spot and surpasses many religious works.   This evokes the wonder I felt as a boy child glimsing the manger scene. At 54 yrs I feel it still.

  50. f.... c....

I believe Scott is an athiest, I hope he doesn't mind that I use this song in my mind to convey the nativity of Jesus the Christ.

    f.... c....

He is clearly a thinker rather than blind follower but coming from the U.S. he may very well have been exposed to the religion contagion as a child, from which the escape is then very, very hard.

    f.... c....

He was raised a Protestant, but has said that he is not religious. Doesn't mean he's an athiest. People can define god in their own way.

    f.... c....

Aha, no, he has said he is not religious. That doesnt equate to belief that you are positing with "people can define god in their own way".

    f.... c....

Don't attribute to him something that he doesn't claim. He's said that he writes often in character anyway. I was raised a Protestant too but I'm an atheist also. Beauty isn't the sole domain of the religious...

    f.... c....

Despite many mentions of angels, etc in his Scott described himself as “not a religious person,” earlier in his career, but like many people as they grow old, he seemed to have a slightly different opinion in later interviews where he acknowledged the “spiritual” if not overtly Christian nature of his work. That he was “searching for something.” And “saying the unsayable.” But that’s the beauty if his lyrics, they’re open to interpretation.

  51. n.... ....

Transports me in the time, is a class of sublime beauty that provokes dread and quake.

  52. I.... H....

    Brilliant stuff,gooebumps time

  53. R.... H....

go and listen to the x-factor, you prat!!!!!

  54. R.... H....

many, many years ahead of its time, was it ever released as a single????/

  55. p.... a....

what is that lead instrument, i can't quite work it out

  56. Q.... ....

I really love Scott Walker, but I just can't get into Tilt or The Drift. Everything else, excluding those awful early to mid 70's albums I absolutely love.

  57. v.... ....

still love it Guida. always will!! what a voice. & his music... superb everybody lets hear it for Guida, and her devotion to a true talent. come on people!

  58. I.... ....

Its like Dead Can Dance with Brendan Perry but in the friggin sixties!

  59. M.... A....

Not trolling here-but I find it an odd aside how many different Scott songs mention "thighs". I counted 6 so far.

    M.... A....

There were a lot of thighs on view in the 1960s! Mini skirts! He was a man, after all ...

  60. l.... t....

who is this mrswozzle person? clearly someone with no taste

  61. S.... ....

I'm not even sure what you're talking about. What isn't he able to sing about?

  62. c.... ....

Stunniingly beautiful....all i can say really

  63. j.... b....

at least have an IDEA of what you're not able to sing about!

  64. s.... ....

@mrswozzle I hope you're being sarcastic. Scott Walker is a genius.

  65. K.... ....

    Scott Walker deserves more recognition.

  66. O.... m....

@mrswozzle A lot of artists would say you're a pratt for this comment. Respect for the musical greats. You have no idea who this man has influenced musically.

  67. j.... b....

what horrendous unlistenable RUBBISH!!! whats he even singing about??? This is the problem with YOUTUBE..its filled with GARBAGE.

    j.... b....

    just go away and DIE!

    j.... b....

I feel so sorry for you-clearly a heart of stone and brain made of waste paper.

    j.... b....

    Don't feed the troll

  68. t.... ....

    unreal..

  69. J.... ....

It reminds me a lot of Vangelis' score in Blade Runner.

  70. a.... ....

    Great song

  71. y.... ....

Well, I just discovered this amazing artist through a doc on Netflix, and... wow. The voice. The expression. The creative mind. And his choice of art over commercial success... But mostly the beauty. Thanks for posting these; I am a better person for them. :-)

  72. e.... ....

@odoanna1 I agree with you. Sleepwalkers Woman is outstanding and is Boychild 15 years on. I love the Climate of Hunter LP. The Drift is brilliant as well. Scott you are one of the greats.

  73. a.... ....

This is the most haunting piece of music ever. Beautiful.

  74. t.... ....

Scott 4 is one of the greatest and most under appreciated albums of the 1960's. It was criminal that they deleted it in 1970.... It would have been a crime had it been lost.

  75. g.... ....

    Hi, Gabby.
I'll try and post that one soon...

  76. g.... ....

And who am I to disagree? The girl certainly knows her Scott! ;)

  77. g.... ....

Better late than never! You're very welcome and I'm really glad you enjoyed it. :)

  78. v.... ....

    Fantasico Guida. Thank you!!! Sandi
