Walker, Scott - Big Louise Lyrics

She stands all alone
You can hear her hum softly
From her fire escape in the sky
She fills the bags 'neath her eyes
With the moonbeams
And cries 'cause the world's passed her by

Didn't time sound sweet yesterday?
In a world filled with friends
You lose your way

She's a haunted house
And her windows are broken
And the sad young man's gone away
Her bathrobe's torn
And tears smudge her lipstick
And the neighbors just whisper all day

Didn't time sounds sweet yesterday?
In a world filled with friends
You lose your way

Even within the majestic catalogue of Mr Walker, this haunting masterpiece stands out. RIP Scott Walker.
An irreplacable voice has fallen silent.

    This song is everything.

RIP scott engel walker, you touched me greatly... in a world filled with friends, you lose your way

His best vocal performance, in my opinion. Bowie may have had a more versatile voice and range, but they both possessed
the best baritone voices in popular music, as well as some of the best vibratos I've ever heard.
And now they're both gone. :(

  15. P.... ....

One of my favourite songs ever.... Rip Mr Walker... ♥

  16. L.... D....

    My anthem. Rest in Peace.

    Sounds nothing like Sinatra.

  19. g.... g....

The sixties elevated music to heights that have never been duplicated , and won't be again....

  20. h.... ....

Simply the most beautiful male voice of the era.

    h.... ....

    Close to Mat Munro

    h.... ....

Yep. But from the era though in a different style, Steve Marriot of Small Faces had an amazing voice.

    None do or can compare.

  21. D.... O....

    THE song of melancholic regret....

  22. B.... ....

How could they do a Scott Walker Prom and NOT include Big Louise?.....one big missed opportunity.

    B.... ....

    what's a "prom"?

  23. S.... G....

    Godlike genius indeed.

  24. B.... S....

I'd actually like to hear Radiohead cover this.

    B.... S....

Why, so that they could ruin it?

    B.... S....

I'm a huge fan of Radiohead, but Frederic is spot on here.

    B.... S....

I think Muse would cover it better than Radiohead. Though I do like Radiohead, just not singing this song :P.

    B.... S....

...leave it be, just leave it be gents.

  25. M.... H....

  27. s.... ....

In a world filled with friends you lose you're way.

    s.... ....

    That's such a great line.

  28. G.... S....

Hello...I don't think he considers himself as "underrated"..I don't think he would like be more popular than what he currently is

  29. E.... K....

    @pontello3 :-)!

    groovy duude

    Hey Throbber,

    Thanks for your comment. =)

I agree with you, his voice is wonderful indeed! I really felt in love with his voice the first time I heard it.

The Drift is a big contrast compared with his older stuff and some songs on The Drift really scare the hell out of me, but I think it's an amazing album. He wrote the songs on The Drift inspired by his nightmares. Imagine what a hell his nightmares must be... :-)
