Walker McGuire - They Call Me Doc Lyrics

They call me Doc
But I ain't got no degree
When it hits the fan
They're calling for me
From bluegrass Kentucky
With red blood on my hands
Nobody calls me hero
Except for my friends

I've woke up from dreams to find out they were real
I can tell you how it went but I can't tell you how it feels

Cuz I've seen it all
Helped heroes who fall
Picked them up till they stand tall
And I've been in the field
Worked down to the bone
To make sure all my brothers get back home

I've shared the smiles, I've shared the tears
Swore they'd make it out of here
When they scream please make it stop

They call me Doc
They all know my name
Cuz it's stiched on my chest
And it hangs on this chain
You won't read it in the paper
Or see it on the TV
But I don't need no fame
That's fine by me

Ya when they're broke and bruised
I know just what I do
My job always starts when they're job is through

Ya I've seen it all
Helped heroes who fall
Picked them up till they stand tall
And I've been in the field
Worked down to the bone
To make sure all my brothers get back home

I've shared the smiles, I've shared the tears
Swore they'd make it out of here
When they scream please make it stop

They call me Doc
Ya they call me Doc

You'll never know the heartache of looking a grown man in the eye
He asks am I gonna make it
And you gotta lie

They call me Doc
But I ain't got no degree
When it hits the fan
They're calling for me
From bluegrass Kentucky
With red blood on my hands
Nobody calls me hero
Except for my friends
They call me Doc

I was a medic in VN. I didn't carry a weapon, due to my faith, but when I walked into my first platoon out in the woods, I was, for the first time in the Army, welcomed. When I came off the chopper I heard "Hey Cherry, where's your weapon?" and the reply from of E-5 Platoon Leader, "He's the Doc". Until that time, I'd been called a lot of names (coward being the most hurtful). I knew I would give my life for those guys because they would have done the same. We didn't fight for 'freedom' or any of those words. We fought for each other.

“You’ll never know the heartache of looking a grown man and the eye ask he ask am I gonna make it and you gotta lie” man that gets me every time I can’t even begin to imagine how tough that is.

    J.... ....

When you love your brothers, you will tell them lies, because hope is strong medicine. We couldn't let on that we were feeling inadequate to the task. Health care involves the whole of a person, psychology and physicality are not different things. The best medicine was often the sound of the Medivac Bird coming in. It can take a lot of work to stay alive, but hope somehow makes it possible.

    J.... ....

Thank you for your service sir or ma’am. I can’t imagine what that feels like. I can’t wait to graduate and I lost and keep people from knowing that feeling. Once again thank you for your service and for you mental and physical sacrifice

Volunteer firefighter with emt training life is scary and death is worse sometimes

  37. A.... P....

My best friend was a corpsman who died in his sleep while my first son was being born. I was about to call him that morning with the good news when his wife called me first with the bad news. We knew each other since we were kids, and when I joined the Marine Corps I got stationed by him since he was FMF with an infantry unit so we still got to hang out. It's impossible to explain to people back home who knew us when were troublemaking, shithead kids the type of man he became. They never got to see it.

  38. R.... G....

I wanna thank everyone who's served or will I wanna say I'm enlisting into the Navy as a BU (builder) also known as part of the Seabees. Just like my dad except he was a seal, god bless.. We Build We fight.

  39. H.... G....

Corpsman in training 😍😍 love this.

  40. A.... R....

Man this needs to be on Itunes already

  41. R.... ....

We had heroes too, Doc. We called them Navy Corpsmen. Army called them Medics. Everybody called them, "Doc". We called them when we were hurt or dying, and they always came, unless they got lit up themselves on the way. On Charlie's hit list they were at the top with radiomen and officers. You guys were some of the bravest men I ever knew. And to all of you corpsmen and medics out there, "Thanks, Doc". Semper Fi. Sgt. Mike Moore FO. 5th Marines 2/1. An Hoa River Basin/Arizona Valley '69-'71. Vietnam.
