WALK THE MOON - The Ballad Of Sebastian Jackson Lyrics

Working hard and dreaming heavy
So Sebastian waits with faded breath tonight
Singin' ooh, I am a man on the moon, oh yeah
And I'm gonna fly, if I can just jump high enough

'Cause he's breaking his back just to see that day
And it's taking him back to his childhood days
Never been so close to the stars before
And they're all laughing cause they think he's crazy
Did you know 'Bastian's talking in his sleep all night?

Singin' ooh I am a man on the moon, oh yeah
And I'm gonna lift off, if I can just jump high enough

Oh, Mr. Jackson, why don't you step away from the edge,
Before you wind up dead?
But he says "Oh, no, thanks for asking I'd rather be the same lad, the same
So get out of my head"
He's wishing with his everything and breathing heavy
And with one jump Sebastian Jackson takes his life

Singin' ooh, I am a man on the moon, oh yeah
And I'm gonna fly, if I can just jump high enough

'Cause he's breaking his back just to see that day
And it's taking him back to his childhood days
Never been so close to the stars before
Wondering every day that he wakes, could this be the day?

Singing oooohh, the man on the moon,
I'm gonna lift off if I can just jump high enough.
Ohhhh, the man on the moon, I'm gonna fly,
Just spread my wings and fly, I'll fly alright.

I'm gonna fly

WALK THE MOON The Ballad Of Sebastian Jackson Comments

I love how Walk the Moon has changed and grown over the years. From the songs like this full of passion to the current albums full of energy, and everything in between. Such a great group

I looked up the lyrics, it says the lyrics are "I'd rather be the same, lad, same, so get out of my head" but hearing it I
hear "I'd rather be a saint than saved, so get out of my head" and I think that fits in the song better, because whether he flies or dies he becomes a saint, but isn't saved either way.

    Marvelous Song

I mean this freakin' song is soo fascinating and amazing and dreamy and all.. But is there anyone here who knows the meaning or inspiration behind this amazingly beautiful song? and it's sad I can't find any live performance of this one.

So I have this theory and I need someone to shoot a hole in it so I stop believing it. So The Ballad of Sebastian Jackson was originally called "Man on the Moon," and the phrase is repeated in the song. Walk the Moon was originally known as "Wicked in the Mix" when this song was called that. Could the band's new name have come as a tribute to Sebastian Jackson, and they changed the name so it wasn't redundant?

I've been scouring obituaries for people named Sebastian Jackson from Ohio who died between 2007 and 2009, and I can't find anything, so I don't even know if he's real. Could just be that it's based on him, but they changed his name. Regardless, the theory could still be true.

+HarryBillyBobGeorge the band name got inspiration from the song "Walking On The Moon" by The Police, it's sorta says it here http://www.interviewmagazine.com/music/walk-the-moon#_

So feelsy. Not to sound jaded, but I do really think WTM was more versatile on this album

+Empire Stories I've definitely been listening to these early albums more than Talking is Hard and such.

I guess since they changed band members, none of the new members play violin. I love everyone in Walk the Moon, but I wish they still had violin in their songs (it's rad). Not complaining though, Walk the Moon is always perfect.

@Charlotte Odair Could just be a keyboard. Though I'm not claiming to be an expert, I used to play violin. While it sounds better than most keyboards' violin settings, it still doesn't quite sound real. You should be able to hear the bow changing strings or fingers moving around. Only a REALLY good violinist can avoid that. It also sounds like there at least 3 violins and a cello, and it's hard to make 3 separate recordings that sound so similar. In addition, there's no record (pun unintentional) that I can find of anyone leaving the band and none of them play violin or cello. So no, I personally don't think they're real.

Do you have the entire album

i love the violins in the beginning
