Wow! I didn’t know that this was a Tom Waits song. I always thought it was an Eagles song

Why compare Waits and the Eagles? Waits sings soulful and emotional and it gets into your soul.We all have been there, 6 AM watching the sun come up,
even better w/ someone special.
The Eagles version is more electronic but I see the trucks and cars passing me and the stars fading, stronger in Waits version.
I turn 75 in March, a grandfather but I was young once. I can't imagine a life without music( and women).

Had to hear Tom's version of this song, as I like the song allot, well the Eagles version, and I don't appreciate what Tom said about the Eagles, saying their records are only good for collecting dust, and insulting them for their version of this song. I do like Tom's version, but I think I know why he insulted the Eagles, because they did it better than he did...

Three years ago to the week, this was playing every other day in my dads car as I drove him back and forth from cancer care. Although I knew what the song meant for us, at the time I kept fighting the inevitable believing we were gonna beat it. We didn’t. But since his passing I’m the only one if his children who doesn’t feel like he’s gone away. He’s been with me the whole time since making his wise cracks and opening doors for me that I couldn’t do on my own before. Thank you for everything.

I can’t believe I’m reading that some people have been bitching about his voice. I don’t think another voice would do this song justice. I like the Eagles but Tom Waits is the real deal.

I didn't meet Tom til the 90's ..20 some years after my husband turned me on to his music..my husband passed in '88 which broke my heart..so i sold my big salon in santa rosa and purchased a small one in sebastopol to ease my life and recoup...not knowing til i worked there that Tom was a local res. and would walk by my shop and chat from tme to time which made me feel so content knowing he was my husbands favorite musician and played his records so much back in the day..of course i love Tom too a real comfort to listen to...thanks for posting! <3

Tom Waits is more than a voice. Look up the songs he wrote: you will find several favorite. He is a poetic genius!

This is one of the rare times where the cover version is hands down better than the original. This sounds like shit compared to the Eagles cover.

I've always been a fan of the Eagles cover. In fact, I hadn't even known it was a cover until a friend told me so recently. Thought I should check out the original version.

I might prefer the Eagles version, but that's only because they have been one of my favourite bands since I was young. I'm used to their version.

That said, I really enjoy this version. It's great, its got more of a timeless feel than the cover.
