Voltaire Shalom Comments
youre cuban but your music has lots of jewish referenes. are you jewish?
I heard this song many times, but Voltaire does it best
The way his sings 'alechem' sounds like he's saying my name. It's so weird..
I imagine Trump singing this song and every time he says "shalom" he launches a nuke.
thats alot of nukes
36 If i counted right.
I can't believe there are 7 dislikes. This is a beautiful song.
Peace bread.
The best thing since sliced bread?
ve aleyküm selam
just so you know the "Hevenu shalom aleihem" translates to "We brought peace upon you"
but when he says "Lehem shalom" it translates to "hello bread" :)
when he should say "Shalom aleihem" again wich is kind of a fail but the pronunciation is very good so I will let it pass
I'm actually getting the feeling that was intentional xD
Cool though!
האסתטיקה שלי
This makes my Jewish heart leap. Though it sounds like " peace bread" not peace be onto you.
+madeline mehok clearly peaceful bread is better than peaceful people xD
i love the violin!!!!!!!!!!!
@Merrin Guthrie I know; it's great. I want the instrumentals to this guy's songs.
. . .And I love Voltaire's voice!!!!XD
is it me or there's like a song's ending misplaced at the beginning of this track ... i don't know it's quite curious
When You're Evil and Shalom have this weird bridge inbetween them on the album. All the no noise at the end of When You're Evil is tacked onto the beginning of Shalom instead, so it makes it for really poor listening in a playlist with a song that's not edited to have that "no noise" at the start of it when it plays right after. I guess they compromised(?) and split the two songs up right before the end of When You're Evil for the Youtube playlist.
נשמע כמו
הבאנו שלום על לחם
הבאנו שלום על לחם
הבאנו שלום, שלום, לחם שלום!
LOL
Seeing the writing from right to left through off my groove for a moment until I remembered a friend from Israel showing me how his family would write to him in Hebrew. That's actually pretty cool you can do that in the comments section.
Hello bread
.לא רק נשמע כמו זה באמת מה שהוא רצה לומר
...לא כולם יודעים עברית
@novi באמת נשמע כאילו וולטר התכוון לזה.
clap* clap* clap*
"that was too slow" haha
@Morteth Hastur play 2x's speed and see how slow it gets now.
Lol
I put the speed in 0,25×
IT'S SO EASY WHEN I'M EVIL! 😈
as a jew, I can testify, it was too slow.
I showed this to an Israeli friend of mine, and he said that at one point, you omit the a in alechem, turning "upon you, peace" to "peace bread." Knowing you, i'm not sure if this was intentional or not. Was it?
If you say "Upon you" in Hebrew, it souns like "On bread".
Shalom alechem = peace upon you
Shalom al lechem = peace on bread
@Hello Kinky there is a part when he says many times lechem shalom, which means piece of bread
Knowing his style, it's gotta be a play on words.
PEACE BREAD I'm laughing so hard omg
@Silver lechem shalom means peace bread, not piece of bread.
alternativly, it can also mean hello bread, but that is another subject we won't touch....
@Emily Price This is a song we sang in chorus for our winter concert ~
I started singing this absentmindedly at work during a slow time. My Christian coworkers almost crapped themselves. It was probably the most entertaining thing to happen all day.
cool story, didnt happen
Its obviously Hebrew... Any semi-knowledgable Christian should know that (me included). The Jewish people are kinda integral to the Christian faith on a foundational level.
When are you commin back to ct??? :D
uuum, anyone that listens to any Voltaire is a fan. it is impossible to listen and not fan.
...........I really hope so
I love that. Its so funny first time i heard it i just started cracking up
Voltaire are you Jewish? If so AWESOME! If not; why sing this?
I doubt he's a part of anything organized. Listen to God Thinks.
He also sings a cover of a Japanese song “ Ringo no uta” so maybe he just likes singing in different languages once in a while. But then again on the other hand he might be Jewish by birth, but I don’t think he is religious.
People speak many languages, im born in the netherlands but speak English, dutch, german some french and Spanish that plays newfoundland and Scotland folksongs on the violin. The world is full of culture.
isn't this song done by the Wiggles?
Its explained a little in the description, to my understanding its a traditional song, normally happy, but here it's scary, loud and sad. :)
Why? I'ts very informative not just about the song but also a small bit of culture from Israel and Palestine.
It's at 1:31, it's pretty quiet though so you may need to turn the volume up to hear it.
Can someone give me the time of the "That was too slow" line? I must be going deaf, 'cause I missed it...
1:30
5 years reply xD
no dislikes? he he he he let me just add something to......THE LIKE BAR! the video has no dislikes lets keep it that way :D
lol "That was to slow" cracks me up
sometimes you say "we brought bread to you" but...you know.
I would LOVE a karaoke version of this. I have a few of your songs in karaoke form already but I think a crowd pleaser like this would do great at my local karaoke bar.
If it's not too much trouble, could you explain it to me? Even if you could just tell me what the words mean it would sate my curiosity some.
Whenever I hear this, it reminds me of my Saturday mornings spent under my Aba's talliet :)
wich are the names of themembers of your band? is there anywhere where we can see that infrmation? like your website or something?
Voltaire, Im curious what made you sing this song, As in what is your connection to the song?
I may not be Jewish, but tomorrow I'm gonna listen to this all day for the 1st day of Hanukkah.
I love this and my Jewish family would love you!!! Lol <3
yes this is cute and funny somehow...
And cool, I am really happy to meet other people from Israel who listens to voltaire!
i think he means this doesnt sound like a song of peace but more like one of mayhem or something cant trasnlate melhamah
The first time I heard this song, I was so confused. I just couldn't wrap my head around Voltaire singing a song that was sung frequently at the synagogue I went to!
Oh my....o_o
Yep, ik, like he doesnt manage to do it everytime but there are no words like that in English, we dont even have ones where you role the r's.
You mean the guttural sound in 'alechem'? That's just the sound in the Hebrew word. No actual significance by itself.
But yeah, it's sung quite well here, not grating on the ears. ^^
the throat thing in "alechem" is too gorgeous, i dont care what it means it sounds wonderful.
could you please explain a little bit more? just a few lines
OK! For an Israeli, and a Hebrew speaker- I love your pronunciation (Not how I would say it, or anyone else, for that matter)... Wow! much nicer than the traditional version.
please inform us I would like to know what happened
That was the violinist. We thought it was funny so we left it in.
I've always wondered this. when the person goes "that was too slow" is that Voltaire or someone else? That's something with this song that has always bugged me >.>
If anyone for some reason wanted to know what font Voltaire uses, it's "Altogether Ooky".
I learned this song (obviously not THIS song, you will know that I mean) as a kid, but kind of a christian version : hevenu shalom alechem; nous vous apportons la paix de Jesus (we bring you Jesus' peace). It brings back a lot of memories !
very nice arrangement by the way !
I'm Jewish, and hearing a JEWISH song in the style of one of my favorite musicians made me squeal in happiness...... I probably need to get a life, but I don't care~!
just listening make me want to learn hebrew
or become the top comment, you know, one or the other lol
I think that's what his facebook fanpage is for ^^" or his amount of subscribers.
The entry was made to gather all fans under one banner and show how we love Voltaire :)
Those drums <3 it sounds like a full body workout :D
i wonder what made u want to sing this song
כמה ישראלים אוהבים אותו חשבתי שרק אני הישראלי היחיד שמכיר אותו מ-aqw
גם אני
I live in Israel...& I can tell you that this song is creepy & scary on so many lvls..The song is full of sarcasim..Instead of Shalom they brought melhamah...If you know what I mean...Only those who knows the history of Israel & Palestine would understand..s: (This comment will get a lot of dislikes & I know it.)
מגניב אהבתי mean Cool I love
lol מגניב אהבתי =)
why is he a racist? i read nothing wrong about jewish poeple or other poeple of diffrent culture or race....
THUMBS UP!! :D
Obviously if you're listening to this song, you're a fan a Voltaire... o.o
-Antisemitic
Thank you Votaire, I'm your fan :)
(thumbs up if You are a fan too ;)
holy shit this brings back memories of going to temple...I didn't know you were born Jewish? No wonder why I like your musical style.
I'm from Israel so Hebrew is my first language and I'm getting happy every time I hear you(Voltaire) singing in Hebrew :P
Awesome sauce :3
