I have an ex. Once told me she wanted to stick me with knives as she was blaming me for things. She probably wanted me dead. I didn't let it get to me. I never held a grudge back. Now I'm actually one of the few people she can open up too. "Courage" is the key word here. People get afraid. Fear leads to hate. And sure, I was scared too and hid away. Yet somehow she found the courage to be there for me at my worst, despite all the hostility. You might be angry and scared and think of someone as nothing but the worst, but I've learned that the people that hate us can be those that care the most. At least then they care enough to hate as opposed to feeling nothing at all. Unhealthy, yes, but feelings being present nonetheless. Hate is simple the presence of fear. If someone is giving you "I want nothing to do with you" yet lets you be around them anyway when wishing you nothing but the worst then a part of them still cares. Maybe a small part but in time it can get bigger. Long as you don't flee in terror or start playing the blame game. Just got to accept that some people can have major trust issues. It's not a "betrayal" when that happens. Those people can even be hard on themselves for it. Or using it as an excuse to "Be strong". Then we can end up hurting them without meaning too. How many people take responsibility for their own actions and how many turn on those they claim to care about? The former never ends well. The later can even lead to hanging out again. And having things go even further from there. Catch 22 is that we can feel like we don't deserve it at times. Eh, I've also learned that it's not up to me alone about what I deserve. It's as much up to others as it is myself.

I relate to this song, and I love this song. I related to this song most and found it at the same time, some time around last year or maybe the end of the year before. Either way, things happened, and at one point I even made a joke of asking how to make a petrol bomb to blow the guy up. I didn't, of course, but that's not to say I didn't want to hurt the guy. Bad. Oh and in the end he ended up hurting the girl (not physically) so yeah that's two reasons I want to hurt him. Fun times. Aside from that, great song despite being so simple.

Considering I would have never found this guy without it, I'm pretty damn glad I did.

I watch The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, but I never knew who did the songs, specifically BRAINS!. In fact, it took me a year of listening to this guys music before I figured it out. I'd never seen that he had a song called BRAINS! and when I listened to it, it just hit me like: "Woah, holy fuck."

First Voltaire-CD I bought years back and I still play it!

It's an inner monologue of someone who hates the one he still loves, AND himself for loving her. All that scary shit is just for himself, expression of his hate. He is just a normal person, trying to get out of his tragedy and start a new life. And though he says to himself that he has no courage to kill her, in reality, he simply knows good from bad. 

Many of us had that tragedy, but hardly anyone went on to kill their ex. Because we are not monsters.

I know, having a voice that lets you sing along without taking too much away from the song is the best.

Voltaire's songs aren't really hard to sing, its more of an intonation of your voice to sound deeper. Most bands of gothic genre have that manly intoned voice that unless the balls haven't drop is easy to replicate.
