Violent Femmes - Jesus Walking On The Water Lyrics
Oh my, oh my, oh my, what if it was true?
And oh my, oh my, oh my, tell me is it true?
Did he, did he, did he die upon that cross?
And did he, did he, did he come back across?
Sinking sand, took my hand, raised me up, and brought me up,
So I can hold my head up high...
Will I, will I, will I be true to my birth?
And will I, will I, will I give what I'm worth?
Oh, yes, sir, yes, sir, yes, sir, I come when you call,
And, yes, sir, yes, sir, yes, sir, sweet Jesus, my all-in-all.

Violent Femmes Jesus Walking On The Water Comments
January 6th, 2020...still epic.
When I was a teenager and just discovering this song, we were spending a summer in Kentucky with my friend's dad. He was so offended by this music that he made us turn it off. I still to this day don't understand what he thought was anti-christian about it, he knew nothing about the Violent Femmes and this was the only song hed even heard.
They're a 'Christian' group. It's a puzzling reaction.
Hallelujah!
Love, love, love!!!!
Who the hell disliked this song
I love this one, you can tell the singer does too.
I feel like this song is sarcastic and i can't picture ol' gordon being an actual christian. Their music is too deep for that. Same goes for it's gonna rain. I still enjoy those tracks though. Hallowed ground is fcking crazy!!!
they kept most of their christian songs for their gospel band named The Mercy Seat
I feel like you dont know what an actual Christian is, just your warped perception dictates what it is in your mind, by the way, it's probably way off.
JESUS LIVES AND SO CAN YOU AMEN
Yep. So the Bible says
1;32pm 2/22/2018 colisium thursday afternoon.....
John 3:16
Mark MacRae Bartholomew 7:27
This song asks a question.
To tell the truth it doesn't matter what it's about as long as it gets your feet moving,, that's the key
.
My all time favorite song-- I am not a Jesus warrior lol,, the song is awesome.
This song was in my dreams and I woke up with it playing in my head. Morning ho down!
wow!I shared it.
3 minutes of silence?
At the end? No idea what that's about. I posted this 6 years ago and had pretty much forgotten about it.
After all these years, I still love these guys!!!! 2016
I can't really figure out whether this is a pro religious song or not.
It’s not ironic
Ariel Karissa I'm atheist, was when I first heard the song, still am, but I've always loved the song.
Gordon's father was a Baptist minister. I'm quite sure this is 100% sincere
Jesus was against religion. Look up the documentary Water has memory.
Femmes is inspired by gospel. look up their other band The Mercy Seat.
Wonderful!
+Mike McCarty walking die for me water lol =)
2x lucky2c this band first row center stage. Cleveland shows rocked
It takes a special band to pull off singing about Jesus. Modern day pop wouldn't & couldn't touch a song like this, thankfully. It's hard to throw in the masonic symbolism with Christ in the music. F the eye of horus and the mkultra'd sex slaves, err, musicians and their bland, synthetic rock/pop lab produced zio shit that is pushed on the youth of this world. Peace out.
kinachahue I
Manifest destiny and Zion are literally the Same thing,, not that I care,, but the point of statement.
I've read an almost identical post on a Motorhead post,, the kid was a highschooler who seemed to think people of different ethnicity were of different Race.
I almost pissed laughing at the statement. He then backed off to different species,, it just got stupider and stupider hahahaaa.
all you guys preaching about being atheist should just wear signs that read"i pretend to hate attention, but i beg for it"
I think you fall under that same category as well..
Harold Zeomeno atheists don't believe in anything so fuck what they think
Jesus Saves
Of course he saves. He's a Jew.
victor dennett but the lingering question still remains. What bank.
Gordon is really nice... and has a really nice voice too.
Tabs was here.
sinking sand took my hand raised me up and brought me up i can hold my head up high
I saw them in concert in 90's also when they toured Australia. Gordon smiled at me (well, thats what I will always tell myself lol) and got their autographs. They added didgeridoo into their music which was pure femme class, they have so much talent!
its the femmes, gospel or what, who cares what they sing they own it! :P
Same here. I'm Atheist as fuck, but there's a lot of gospel music that I love. Same way I love Slayer, but I know there isn't any such thing as Satan lol
atheist; don't believe in a supernatural god; this song is my fav femmes song. hands fucking down.
This is "Gospel spoken and sung by weed smokers"
I'm sitting in my Western Washington University dorm room wishing the Violent Femmes would play here. I think Death Cab for Cutie is playing this year. Dammit.
i love em' but they are no more
WOW. i forgot about this song
I love this song because it sums up the Jesus and what we expect of him whether it is realistic or not.
love it, freakin love it. saw them in mid 90's at Western Washington University in B'ham Wa State. on acid no doubt, freakin awesome.
Haha! I bookmarked it on my mp3 player and have played it like 40 times this morning at work...just cycling back to where Duncan intros the song over and over haha. KILL THE VAMPIRE IN YOUR FUCKING LIIIIIFEEEEEEE!!!!!
me too! such an awesome song to play out the Pete Holmes episode
Have had this song stuck in my head for the past week after hearing it again (after like a decade or two) on the Duncan Trussell Family Hour.
@SgtPepper96034 I hear that, my friend :)
@jedimind24 Thanks. The Femmes were a great group.
