Vince Gill - I Don't Wanna Ride The Rails No More Lyrics

Well I've been hopping freight trains all my life
I woke up cold and hungry in the middle of the night
I've been on the wrong end of a drunkard's night
And nowhere to send the letters that I write
And now and then I've seen most every single town
But never stopped quite long enough to ever hang around
'Cause that whistle makes a mighty lonesome sound
It's been on my mind, I'd love to settle down

And I don't wanna ride the rails no more
I wanna know, oh, is love worth dying for?
Hear children playing through an old screen door
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more

The train's pulling up at half past nine
The waitress said, "Hey stranger, how 'bout one more glass of wine?"
We kept talking and we lost our own track of time
The train pulled out, left us there behind

And I don't wanna ride the rails no more
I wanna know, oh, is love worth dying for?
Hear children playing through an old screen door
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more

For the first time in my life I didn't run
I felt your arms around me and my rambling days were done
Something changed deep inside of me
The radio played Love Is All You Need

Oh I don't wanna ride the rails no more
I wanna know, oh, is love worth dying for?
Hear children playing through an old screen door
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more
Oh I don't wanna ride the rails no more
I wanna know, oh, is love worth dying for?
Hear children playing through an old screen door
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more
No I don't wanna ride the rails no more

Got to hear him sing this one live August 9th at Anderson Music Hall north Georgia. Great show. Suprised not that many people below 50 in the crowd. Younger crowd is missing out on some good music.

  26. H.... H....

    👍😊

  27. L.... S....

To know a woman's love worth dying for is the ultimate. I would like to know that once again.

  28. m.... ....

Only Vince can sing a song as this. He obviously love trains of America. Song has alot of meaning. Love it . mos60

  29. V.... S....

Only God's love is worth fighting and dying for.

  30. L.... E....

    Well done, sir!

  31. D.... H....

Saw Vince in Huntsville. Al last night 8/10/19 and what a show. Vince was sick and he was still better than 99.9% of country musicians singing/playing today. He is a great entertainer and you can tell he LOVES what he is doing. His playlist was a mix of his old hits and he threw in only 2 of his new songs Thank you, Vince, for a great evening.

  32. M.... G....

Who else thinks this is one of Vince's absolute best songs? His voice, weathered to perfection, gliding over that incredible guitar, and lyrics that cut through the supericialty and arrive at something strong and profound. Man, do we miss art and quality like this. And he's down to earth, decent, and funny guy in concert. Brilliant stuff, as usual.

    M.... G....

I am loving his new album. One of his best, in my opinion, and I think you've nailed why I think that. It's his voice. You're right, his voice has aged beautifully. The slightly weathered nature to it adds so much depth the vocal delivery.

    M.... G....

    I love everything Vince does

  33. P.... ....

Ahhh, Sweetpea. Another classic. What a beautiful song. Thank you thank you thank you.

  34. R.... B....

Makes me think of a time this past summer we were waiting on a train to go by at a railroad crossing, my kids said look daddy as the last cart went by. There was a guy sitting on top of the train just a waving at us as it went on by.

  35. D.... T....

    Tx Vince, great song!!

  36. G.... K....

How anyone could dislike this is beyond me . I love it xo

  37. j.... b....

I have listened to this over & over BEAUTIFUL ...this and ZBB Leaving Love Behind... the 2 best NEW songs on

  38. N.... P....

  40. C.... ....

  41. M.... S....

So much heart in this song!

  42. P.... G....

    Vince never sounded so good.

  43. R.... ....

Painting such a complete picture with so few words is gift from above.

  44. M.... D....

I think Knopfler once invite him to be a member of Dire Straits.
    He declined.
But that itself shows how good this guy is.

    M.... D....

He's also a multi instrumentalist, and did a long tour with the Eagles. Can also switch genre.

  45. C.... V....

    "Savannah"

(Do you ever think of me?)

    -Vince Gill

  46. P.... R....

We all know it wasn't about railways

  47. j.... ....

The 40 people who disliked this think Old Town Road is country music. 🤮

Love love love you Vince Gill! ❤️

    j.... ....

    Hahaha omg definitely.

    j.... ....

    Fantasticka píseň, Vince je boží

    j.... ....

THEM 40 people HAVE no clue...about our roots, Country music and I know they are on the losing end for not being one of the hundred of millions that love and live Country music

  48. H.... G....

Instant classic, that is. A proper country song, although it needs a touch of pedal steel guitar to complete the arrangement.

  49. D.... N....

Wow.. Vince has his craft at a level seldom seen. His knowledge of country, folk, bluegrass, rock and gospel combined with the sweet voice and unmatched musicianship put him so far above today's run of the mill, tweeny pandering stadium junk being played today. Take note Trashville...this is what music and writing are supposed to be. Vince not only picked up the torch from the greats..he learned from them all...respects them all and it shows. Thank you Mr Gill..your talent is appreciated. Whitey Shafer, Hank Cochran, Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Jimmy Webb, Bobby Braddock, Harlan Howard, Billy Joe Shaver, Merle Haggard...and the list goes on..I hear them all in your music.

  50. J.... M....

I dearly miss the perfection of that voice of his. There’s just something about some that set them apart from others, so I far apart that never will they be duplicated. Vince is such a man. If only men and women that marry knew your first marriage is exactly what you put into it. You loved her or him before you say I do so what changes is the way you treat each other.

We as women or men have to learn to love deeply but never smother each other and always listen! A argument is when two are talking one each time needs to shhh listening brings resolution. Remember not one is smarter than the other we all make mistakes just own up to them and ask for help!

Love can be a great thing!

  87. L.... T....
