View, The - The Don Lyrics

Thinking of poems of poverty
Sitting with a tight clenched wrist, thinking how to gain authority
Oh what a soft touch of a boy
He'd wander with pride to sell and keep visions to his self
Visions to his self

We'd talk of treasures, and over-rated games
We'd steal the milk bottles, sneaking through the back round Jimmy's way.
What we loved most of all, was sitting round the shop, while this poor boy was sitting all alone,
Sitting all alone

Pondering times of sanctuary
He was sitting taking his piano lessons, we were on half an E
Invested life in medicine, had so much shit going on.
Convinced he'd never win. Convinced he was a sin.

We'd speak of women and cheaper carryouts
We'd turn up to all the festivals, trying to bring down the touts,
What we love the most of all was sittin' at the shop, while this young boy was sittin' all alone,
Sittin' all alone

We'd talk of treasures and overrated games
We'd steal the milk bottles, sneaking through the back round Jimmy's way.
What we loved most of all, was sitting at the shop, while this poor boy was sitting all alone,
Sittin' all alone

He couldn't find none of his own kind, he didn't have none of his own kind
You should take interest in his mind, not spend all of his time wastin all his money and time

What we loved most of all was hanging round the shop
What we loved most was sitting round the shop
What we loved most was standing at the Dryburgh shop,
What we loved the most was hanging round the shop while he was all alone

great time to be young 2003-2009 so much great music (and a lot of bad music) but no one cared what you dressed like, everyone was ugly, no pressure to be cool, just drinking cans and going to indie clubs.

What does don mean, I’m from Aberdeen and don usually means someone from there but they’re from Dundee and I don’t think the context makes sense for it being someone from Aberdeen. Anyone know what it means in this song?

    Ryan

The don basically just means "the best of something" in the context of the song the wee boy has everything goin for him.

  36. JHohnny B Goode

I don't understand why The View hate playing this song, I seen they dropped it for a lot of their shows and I had to literally beg them for weeks to play it at the show I went to last night in Birmingham. Anyone know any reason why they hate playing it so much? Kyle even said on stage before playing it that he 'fucking hates playing this song'.

  42. Jovan Vesic

    he dsnt like socks!?

  43. vverewolfchick

I totally agree. If the artist wants to have a youtube, they are more than welcome to. In fact, those are usually the best.

  44. tuzza688

it wasnt illegal before vevo brought the rights to show the music.

  45. tuzza688

Your a dumbarse!! youtube was free before vevo even existed!!

  46. Budehgong

@izziexxx I get your feeling and dig your statement, seeing as how I'm experiencing it from the other side.
Not as much as going to prison though, but still, seeing all my old friends go off to college, while I'm stuck here without a diploma, and with only a couple friends and a drug addiction left.

  47. Charlie Forbes

his friend looks like my uncle :D

  48. Dominic Wilson

@332blondie if the song is copyrighted then legally you don't have the right... lol

  49. D Man

@Chipshopwrapper the don is one of their mates from when they were young and still is mates with them!

  50. izziexxx

This video makes me want to cry, which is stupid of me since this is such an upbeat song, but I just watch it remembering kids like "skag trendy", that kid who was your best friend when they didn't realise that you were a "geek" who used to come round your house for tea because they're mum didn't make dinner again, who ruined their own lifes when you grew up and grew apart, whilst you went to uni they were going to prison.

And all the time you can't help wondering; what if?

    David Low

So true Dundee is seeing the price of Skag being trendy

  51. bigyin66

@332blondie as much as id like to agree, vevo are one reason why we dont pay for youtube, and id happily keep them here for that reason only, im cheap what of it.

  52. Hyacinths Eliot

@Chipshopwrapper I think the Don is a friend of theirs that they grew up with, and if I'm not mistaken, the guy in the video is really him. I think in an interview someone said Skag Trendy was just a character they came up with based on people they knew. Hope that helps.

  53. Cieran Menzies

@Chipshopwrapper think it s kieran and pete

  54. Steedy Gonzales

@asinnedangel He does, do you see the kids that are outside the shop writing on the wall? thats the band when they were younger.

  55. TheHaloDon

@332blondie Dumbass, you do realize Vevo keeps Youtube free right?

  56. Glen Barr

i met Marco Barresi in Dundee at one of The View's gigs. Legend of a man. The View are top and im proud to be Scottish.

  57. Alfredo Salguero

    not a single dislike!

  58. chrisy141627

    @332blondie good on ya! XD

  59. MrBowww1
