Was delighted with Forth glad they came back with this album . Appalachian Springs is quintessentially Ashcroft , soulful lyrically beautiful melody , my interpretation is he’s talking about how solitude can be a pathway to enlightenment , just my interpretation though 😊.

I demand critics reevaluate this masterpiece album. it's been almost 10 years. it deserves the recognition it never really got the way weezers 'pinkerton' did 10 years after its release. this album is a modern masterpiece!!!

 Fantastic song, great vocals and lyrics. There are interesting tempo changes at 4:04 (speeds up slightly, 10bpm I think) and at 4:55 (goes back to normal).

Listening with good quality headphones, you can sort of detect a gradual crescendo starting at the beginning of the song and culminating near the end.  Lots of layering and harmony are added gradually.  Fantastic song, and as always from the Verve, thoughtful lyrics.  One of my three favorite bands of all time.

I remember this feeling, I stepped into a minefield when I was stationed in Egypt. It was extremely scary, I was exceptionally scared because the mines were right there. I had to remember the steps that I took so that I would take them again... I just remembered the draws and the spurs of the maps I was weary and uncertain. And that was what I was feeling, step to the left or a step to the right?
