when you get a song you remember for years, it is special. When it makes you FEEL again, you know it is the music of your life.

Because sometimes "Deep inside you will bleed for me" is the only way to say that somebody's actions hurt the both of you, and eventually they will realize that, not only did they hurt you, but that actually they hurt themselves exactly as badly in the process.

When I got the CD, I was listening while laying on the couch and kinda dosed off. When this song came on, I literally sat up and took notice. It became my theme song of the time. LOVE!

I can Remember back when this album was released. I was a young punk who loved hitting the bars smoking cigarettes amongst other things. I met a very nice girl who had about the worst ex husband that god could ever create. I did my best to take care of her and her daughter, although it was probably not that great! I would love to hear from you Deanna prob spelled wrong as I am always drunk. I have my own wife and son know but always wonder how you are managing!

To me it's about fighting for someone with a wavering heart, a person who is constantly stringing you along, perpetually *shackling* you and finally breaking free from them.  This person keeps going in and out of the relationship, *leaving you no place to call your own* and whenever this person seems to finally come around, you find yourself on the ground heart broken again.  You are constantly paying the price for staying with this person, faithful they are going to change for the better.  Even after being free from this toxic relationship, deep down, you still have faith the other will change, but this thought no longer ties you down.  You are merely happy you are free from their hold.

SO true! I was involved with a man who abused me, both physically and emotionally...and after every incident, he would swear he was going to change. When I finally broke free of his hold, he found out he had pancreatic cancer. By that time, I had moved 1000 miles away. When he died, I wasn't there. Karma?

@Christina Clancy I didn't mean someone who is physically abusive, but untrue, or simply confused.  Their heart isn't loyal.  And every time they're found out they manage to get you back into their hold by saying whatever they would need to in order to do so.  It's constantly pulling on a person's heart strings and it leaves them no where.  Glad to know you got out of that relationship though. x.x

A lot of people interpret this song as someone who's trapped in an abusive relationship... To me it's more like how a person is fighting his/her inner demons and how it is not allowing him/her to reach their full potential... Now the person is finally getting a grip of the situation and removing their shackles... Kinda like being set free... I love it cos it speaks to me that way from the time I first heard it...

Conveyed Rage would be a cool name for a band.

I was blown away by VH's You're a God being played on the radio so went out & bought the CD. A lot of deep, soulful stuff but enjoyable all the same when in the mood for it. Standouts for me are You're a God & the excellent Finding Me but wow, they save the best till last on the CD with this track - so totally blown away by it after the relatively easy-going first 10 tracks! Man, why didn't they let Keith Kane sing & write more stuff as the Everything You Want album could've been sooooooooo much better with more of his heavier contributions?

This is an amazing song. Surprisingly hard core compared to the rest of the band's music, which I also enjoy. It is all good. Even my metal loving kid likes this song.

Not only was this whole album amazing, but there definitely should have been more songs like this made by them since then.....the uplifting sadness is very resonant - and the guitar playing in this song is AMAZING. This has always been one of my favorite songs.

Um, do a search here on Youtube watch the oh, I don't know, 5 or 6 LIVE videos of Shackled and then tell me that story again. In ALL of them he introduced Keith Kane and then Keith proceeds to sing the song, quite well actually. If you look on VH's wiki page the drummer isn't even credited for doing vocals at all Keith Kane is.

Sorry to tell you, but my suspicions were confirmed. It was the guitar player, Keith Kane who wrote and sang this song, not the drummer. That, apparently, seems to be the little known fact. :)
