Vertical Horizon - Instamatic Lyrics
Lost causes turn you on,
So I’m the perfect one.
Your eyes say it’s okay now, okay now, and I
I swore I’d never give,
But your cameras were well hid.
And the memories are mostly Instamatic
What’s left of me is left to you.
And the battleships are circling and waiting for your call
Oh no use flying
I just love the fall.
Yeah, I really love the fall.
Well your fingers leave no prints
With your fine intelligence.
I hope for saving grace,
But I know it’s all too late.
Can you tell me where my heart is
Heart is, just a
Memory, it’s mostly Instamatic
What’s left of me is left to you.
And the battleships are circling and waiting for your call
Yeah, no use flying
Yeah, I really love the fall.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
So go on.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
So go on.
The memories are mostly Instamatic
What’s left of me belongs to you.
And the battleships are circling and waiting for your call
So no use flying
Yeah, no use flying
I just love the fall.
Yeah, I really love the fall.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
So go on, go on.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run.
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna run
Now you’re gonna
Now you’re gonna run.

GREAT SONG !!!! Neil Peart 4 ever in our hearts :((((
Hello, from Brazil, I knew this song now and I really love it, the lyrics, the melody, everything, but this drummer, oh, he was the best in the world, is a great loss for the music and for the world
Choramos junto!
Crying together!
Who’s here because they’ve been binge watching hundreds of Rush/Neil Peart videos?
Had to come back and listen again in January 2020. This song is incredible! The essence of Neil Peart flows through this song. His drum playing on "Instamatic" takes the song to another level. RIP Neil Peart. Truly one of a kind drummer.
Agree ! I can feel the undeniable RUSH in this tune!
Rest In Peace Neil Peart 🙏
This song is really hitting me right now
Matt Scannell + Neil Peart = pure magic.
Added to my 20.This.Week Playlist! Check me out!
Great song but the lyrics make no sense.
What a fantastic song! A real modern rock which just gets better with Peart in drums.
This is a great song. Pop perfection. Great melodies, great hooks, and of course the Professor on the kit!
He sounds like Michael Stipe.
A kick ass song...great to hear Neil as well!!!
You go to the trouble of getting Neil Peart to play drums on this track then subdue his sound
That's exactly what I was thinking.
This is an incredible song, well done and emotions shine through! Peart was excellent as always. But to those who complain about his drums being mixed to accompany the song and not DRIVE it, GET A GRIP! They planned it that way for the song and the affect they wanted. YouTube has the video of the studio sessions of how the drums were mixed, look it up! AND JUST ENJOY THE SONG!
what can I say..........
AWSOME SONG!! best i have heard in 35 years!!
Oh what I would sacrifice to re-mix this song...I like it nonetheless but holy god, I'm not getting enough drums out of this.
Dunno. 30 seconds in and love the drumming, but the lyrics are passive-aggressive pathetic gamma male.
Reminds me of time stand still.
true i was trying to find which song to compare to!! u Neiled it!
Not the same.
It the album art thats why this didnt sell come on a bunch of fake ass looking keys.
Somebody could mistake the VH for van halen LOL..
Still, one of my favorite songes. amongst an achivel of many others. from many others. this one is like the best of Rush or I can pick of so many others. GREAT work.
What was the point of getting Neil Peart to play on your record and then burying the drums/cymbals in the mix? Is the person who mixed this aware of the eq knobs?
Really? you had to ask a question like that? if i was friends of Neil I would ask him too.. Experience is the teacher! when it comes to Percussion...Neil is the Master...
Matt is such an amazing songwriter
Great song....that could have been sensational..... however it has been ruined by production that is unforgivably awful.
Same conclusion here after searching for a 'better copy' that just doesn't exist. It's a bad original. Too bad.
Neil P erfect drummer
This song is awesome!!!
In the immortal words of Larry David: "Pretty, pretty, pretty good."
you spelled "really, Really, REALLY good" wrong :oP~
This reminds me of something off Rush Counterparts haha, the chorus especially, awesome song though, it actually has elements of Rush aside from Neil's drumming, which sounds great, the mixing could have been better though
I betchya that the released song is much more clear and precise.
Too many mics,..too many ways to "adjust" :o)
This song is pretty kicking. Neil really made it much more interesting than it would have been with your average beatbox drummer. And you know what else? As usual, he could have added more "spice," but he was more concerned with serving the song. I will say though the drums sounded a little muffled. Should be louder and clearer, but other than that actually a really cool and fun track! He gave it the Rush touch. Lucky you!
MrDeppness totally agree... And yes,I wish the drums weren't so muffed, especially the bass drum. You tube the making of it and you'll see his bass drum totally iglooed in studio ; ( ,,, Such a catchy song I can play it all day...I wish radio did???
He saved that spice for he awesome drum solo towards the end:)
"They built an igloo over my bass drum. I think it's a Canadian joke!" -- Neil Peart
God help Ron Lavella.......:o
Matt that is an awesome song - Neil applied his gift to make it even more enjoyable
This song is amazing! They contacted neil peart to help them , and for sure he did
ya' think?
That's the understatement of the century, but i wanna hear a better mix, which they can make from what they have, i'm sure. I wonder if this was released, as it was 2013,..3 1/2 years ago.
Anybody have ideas of what these lyrics mean?
The lyrics are about stealing fire from the gods; taking a creative opportunity in life with another person and running with it, risking insurmountable tragedy, knowing that the glory sought in it passes in the click of a shutter and becomes a single jewel in memory forged out of trauma.
whoa dude!,...my head just 'sploded!
:o)
drumrnva yea what he said,lol
Good question.
Absolutely sick man!!!
I love this song :'D
Al Nair me too...
GET THE RASCAL OUT OF THE PROD CHAIR AS NEIL HAS DRUMS LIKE CANNONS HERE
Absolutely wonderful, and yeah, the way this was mixed would tailor to Rush perfectly.
A little taste of "ice chucker" Canuckian triumvirate, for sure man,...oh yeah,..like Take Off to the Great White North!
:o)
Awesome song! I love everything Vertical Horizon does. :)
This song is actually fantastic
Aside from Neil being great, I can't get over how well produced this song is.
Neil Peart and Matt Scannell are good friends. Neil also recorded a couple of track's for Vertical Horizon's last album as well.
If you go to, "Power Windows" the Rush tribute sight, in the "news" section, you can see the video of Neil recording this drum part. Pretty cool.
How did they get Neil to guest star on their album. Neil is fantastic by the way.
Rush Master Neil and Matt are very good friends, sharing literature and hiking, and enjoying each other's company. Matt also was one of the people that Neil leaned on when he lost Selena and Jackie. Matt asked Neil to appear on this song, and Neil was happy to do it.
Another nice album by Vertical Horizon and I love Rush's music, but they should get whoever mixed this album to do their next one. This sounds great and you can here Neil's drums!
Neil peart oops
Rip pest guest on drums on this
