Velvet Underground, The - Run Run Run Lyrics
Teenage Mary said to Uncle Dave
I sold my soul, must be saved
Gonna take a walk down to Union Square
You never know who you're gonna find there
You gotta run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do
Marguerita Passion had to get her fix
She wasn't well, she was getting sick
Went to sell her soul, she wasn't high
Didn't know, thinks she could buy it
And she would run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Tell you whatcha do
Seasick Sarah had a golden nose
Hobnail boots wrapped around her toes
When she turned blue, all the angels screamed
They didn't know, they couldn't make the scene
She had to run, run, run, run, run
Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do
Beardless Harry, what a waste
Couldn't even get a small-town taste
Rode the trolleys down to forty-seven
Figured he was good to get himself to heaven
'Cause he had to run, run, run, run, run Take a drag or two
Run, run, run, run, run
Gypsy Death and you
Tell you whatcha do

Velvet Underground, The Run Run Run Comments
Anyone know why they were not invited to Monterey or Woodstock?
They were not about peace, love, war rebellion, flowers in your hair, white doves, politics, or answers to the world's ills. Nope. Lou Reed said none of that stuff had much to do with his life, at that time. Their music was about the shadow side of human life, what is internal, private, and crying to be recognized or felt. The Velvet Underground dared to explore what few others cared to talk about. Theirs was a silent rebellion, which would not come full swing until punk spurred a different societal movement.
Does this sound like Woodstock or Monterey? This is definitive Velvet Underground. https://youtu.be/AwzaifhSw2c
Sounds like shit
I'm a guy and no I'm not going to stoop to Lou Reed's Queer world. Real men don't wear pantyhose and makeup. Guys in stockings and garters and makeup are effeminate types. Be who you are, just leave me and my gal to ourselves, we'll handle all the rest.
Also released in 1966 was a song written by Pete Townshend, Run, Run, Run. This Andy Warhol version stole the whole opening riff of the who's song, the lyrics are different and all but poured over the Run Run Run Riff in Pete Townshends song. Andy Warhol's whole schtick was chinsey tin foil presented as gold crap.
what the hell are you talking about? riffs do not sound similar at all
Droning and deviant rock and roll! the beginning of the END!!! and it's the greatest thing ever!!!!!
Utter shite.
Cours forest mais tu cours pas plus vite que le temps
this shit uuum
John Cale playing that badass bass line here. Incredible!
When their first LP, whithout any trash track, is just the chapter one of a ''best of'' to come, be sure that you are face to face with one of the best groups of anytime.
My second favorite band, after the doors.
Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, REM and Can are some of my favorite bands.
@Iamman i upload 5 times a day for 6 months pink Floyd with sid barret ,yesss
@sweet lady yes definitely. Piper is one of my favorite albums.
2:39 to 3:24 UwU
New favorite song Hell yeah score that smack
I don't get this album (?
It is totally unique. Nothing like it was around back then. David Bowie could not get enough of them. He knew about them and they did not know about him. That should enlighten us.
@Susan Matz yeah. Imagine Bowie is your biggest fan. I don't care for him but yeah. That would be neat.
@Iamman i upload 5 times a day for 6 months , actually, Nico was in England and Bowie was trying to introduce himself. He was captivated by "Waiting for the Man" and she had no idea who the hell he was. Lol.
@Susan Matz ha that is amazing.
"Pardon me, who the hell are you?"
"Im David Bowie!"
"Who?"
@Iamman i upload 5 times a day for 6 months , Lol! He did bring Lou Reed out of his shell though, eventually. Amazing times in music history. Artists always recognize the greats in their field, whether the public does or not.
track list and times please...?
NOI!!!!
YA FAKE FUCKIN FGAN BROOM NBROOM GO COOL PEOPLE BADLYY YA fake fucvkin fan
wow what a shitty response! go fuck yourself
Lou Reed thinks you are an asshole
Bunch of talentless white kids posturing with bits of old black music, and not an original idea in their bones.
63 people couldn't make the scene.
If I could play electric guitar half as well as that I'd very happy
Velvet undergrounds guitar work isnt that hard. This song is mainly one chord. Like a D major but without the bottom string. And you hammer on the third feet of the A string. Heroin is like 4 chords. D, G Dsus4 and G6. Theres more to it. Just go to Ultimate Guitar tab. They have a lot of velvet underground songs.
So...early experimental music (post-Stockhausen and John Cage) was suffused with A LOT of influence by black people’s blues music!?!!!🤩👍
writermachine80 I mean rock music in general comes from blues, and country, and folk and American folk music in general. But yes, mostly Blues
Idem se srušiti u krevet. Ujutro imam pola ustavnog suda natašte 😜
Pretrčala cijeli fucking Frankfurtski aerodrom 😜
Éste es el disco que más veces he escuchado en mi puta vida.
Ah.... John Cale. A collossus
ostrich tuning
Is it? I know the one song off this album is. I cant remember the name but its the "shiny shiny boots of leather" song. Venus in Furs I think?
Burnout vibes feel so good

Ke rekuer2 de mis 15 años xdddd
Great album: stop writing idiotic shite about it. Just enjoy it.
Words can definitely ruin art sometimes hahaha
Andy Warhol was a worthless hack.
At least, on the surface, it isn't referencing his homosexuality.
But then again, bringing that up is only adding fuel to the fire.
@tengo sueño Lou Reed creía que The Beatles eran basura
You got to love it ostrich guitar take out the frets don't play on the blues scale the play this bluesy lead top of all this discordant mess. Brian Eno was correct about the importance of this record. Everything starts here punk Rock Post Punk alternative Lo-Fi College Rock and all left of the dial. These folks deadlier than any hippie around
My dad said this song is about putting lsd up yer butt.
nah it's clearly about scoring the H Bomb
He just wanted to see if you'd do it. Ha!
"Seasick Sarah had a golden nose" = "Georgia Sam, he had a bloody nose." Obvious Dylan influence there. :-)
Take a drag of truth
best song on the record
that banana definitely had it's 15 minutes of fame, more like 50 years, lol. Great song
It's crazy that these guys got where they are now just because they stumbled into Andy Warhol
Nave Netoow Makes ya wonder just how much music has been lost to time because it never got picked up.
Andy Warhol art is some unique stuff
The heaviest rock band of all time. Most original authentic street poetry put to metal machine music.
i dont think heavy is the right word
Lou sounds like Bob Dylan here
He always sounds like Dylan. To me Velvet was always 'Dylan on steroids'.
@tom33pr more like "Dylan on a LOT of heroin."
Lou went through a period when he was pretty obsessed with Dylan. There's a version of "Waiting for the man" where he's trying to sound exactly like him.
It's pretty obvious. Listen to Bob Dylan's 'Highway 61' and you'll hear 'Run Run Run' in there
Sure, but Dylan's influence, especially in the 60s, is massive.
Heroin music.
each drug his music..
Opiate music
smack tunes
sooooo fein
RIP Lou me and dylan used to sit around his studio listening to your records.
You had some hellacious muttonchops back in the day :D
Saw Dylan in concert back in 2006 for his Never Ending Tour (where I first had to endure sitting through the torture that was a fucking Merle Haggard opener) ... Wish I could have seen Bob in his prime, when he didn't have arthritis that prevented him from playing a guitar.
Really?
teenage Mary? William Burroughs. Old and gay
Eddie Sedwick - Margarita passion
about the scene in the Chelsea Hotel sportsfans
Does anybody know how can I do that sound with a guitar? 1:21
tayito98 that screech? I'm pretty sure that's John Cale's viola.
midrange booster induced feedback
Tremolo picking,..a low wattage amp playled loud so it kind of breaks up into light overdrive..also for feedback just get close to the amp and pinot the pick ups at the speakers.
If I want feedback, I just turn the mids up and distort the amp.
I just realized that Elliott Smith references this song in "Needle in the Hay".
in which part of the song?
He says "I'm gonna WALK WALK WALK" in it which is a nod to this song. Plus there's a bunch of references to Heroin use in it. From what I understand The Velvet Underground was know for being a "heroin" band.
Misfits season 2 episode 3
most badass song ever
This song made me creme ass milk
same here bro
I wonder if this was influenced by the Supremes "Run, Run, Run"?
perhaps if everyone on this thread didn't attack him FOR BEING CORRECT, then he wouldn't have to be so defensive about it.
Who knows? I know that Lou Reed before the VU had a job selling crappy Doo Wop records in convenience stores...so he could've easily encountered them and picked something up (not to lump the Supremes in with the "crappy" groups)
dude has a point, ya´ll need to chill out
David Galloway wtf they were just asking a question, why be a cunt about it??????? Nobody cares that u listen to VU just enjoy it and stop thinking you’re better than others because of an “obscure” music taste. Twat.
David Galloway Anger issues by any chance David?
1:22 to 2:04 is easily my most favorite guitar solo of all time..
My mom gets so angry whenever this part comes on hahaha
2:41 - 3:00
jeez this sound reminds me to another song. +10 to who can tell me what song is.
@Brian Macdonald Check out Crystal Stilts "Prometheus at Large." It has a "Highway 61" feel to it as well.
roadhouse blues?
"European Son" at the end of this album.
Dick Dale - Misirlou
Black metal tremolo picking 25 years before black metal
this make me dance so much!

Why she was blue?
@Kena Molina Because she died from an overdose.
i exhumed the guy and made him apologize for this
You exhumed Lou Reed? Weird, 'cause I'm not sure it's public information where he was buried.
go fuq urself
beardless Harry Hunke the junkie friend of Bill Burroughs
seasick sarah - Dylan - the man in the hobnail boots - boot to shoot up
Did Seasick Steve get his moniker from this?
@Rowland108 Probably; Seasick Steve is a living legend btw

oh that's how I get more herion. duh...
Ever get your fix?
Something tells me I need to be homosexual.... I don't know why I just have this feeling.
Why be gay? That crap's weird. Each to their own.
This song reminds me of Quentin Tarantino's movies. These dark, underworld sort of characters meeting their fates over the course of the day...
You do know its about heroin, don't you?
But what isn’t these days?
small town taste. Didn't these guys ever watch panic in needle park?
One of my favourite tunes of all time .Filthy, seedy, grubby............nothing compares.

Sweet marijuana, take me back to a simpler time.
