Velvet Underground, The - Louise Lyrics
Louise, take it all back to town
Ain't it a shame you're too old to get around
But everybody knows you used to dance the hoochy coo
Just can't shake it like you used to do
Louise
Louise, you used to work so hard
No one could compare
Always used to build a house
They came from everywhere
Men would scream
The ladies faint
The childrens weren't allowed
No one on another bill could ever draw a crowd
How you keep it up, I just don't know
Louise, take it all back to town
Ain't it a shame you're too old to get around
But everybody knows you used to dance the hoochy coo
Just can't shake it like you used to do
Louise, Louise
Younger girls keep coming up, anxious for a chance
They've all been to college, got degrees in modern dance
Things keep getting rougher now
Where they once was slick
Old routines are getting tired
Tassels just don't stick
That was a long time ago
How you keep it up, I just don't know
Louise, take it all back in town
Ain't it a shame you're too old to get around
But everybody knows you used to dance the hoochy coo
Just can't shake it like you used to do
Louise, Louise
Louise
Ooh
It's so very hard
Every day slips away
Away, away

Velvet Underground, The Louise Comments
I don't understand the Squeeze hate at all. Sure, it was a Doug Yule solo project billed out to the Velvet Underground band name, but there's not really a single weak track in the bunch. Why do people hate Squeeze?
I really like some of the tracks on this LP. I think the hatred of it is bizarre. This track even presages that kind of glam/cabaret/rococo style on Lou Reed's Berlin.
Hey look, a decent track from the infamous Squeeze album lol this is honestly one of the best songs on the album though, at least it's not as forgettable as shit like Little Jack
This is a good, just not a good VU song, if at all. But it's catchy all the same

.. a great mixture of contemporary tendencies that fit like a glove in a hand !!... if you know what i mean .... very awesome ..
its like while my guitar gentle weeps, damn
the fuck is this shit?
I could listen an album of this
But instead we got Squeeze lol
DAMN...
Man what a fuckin song, this is velvet thru and thru idk what u critics is talkin bout
Ryan Mardel It's literally not Velvet. None of the original members are on this album
this weird mccartney sound is all what velvets used to hate... what a weird turn... the critics are right on this one, fuck this kid....
Ian Paice was the best drummer to ever be in band, but yeah this is a bit of a Wings sound. Weird
That's some obscure crap alright
just fine!!!
Steve Sesnick and Polydor should be ashamed for labeling this as a Velvet Underground. It would've been better if it was released as a Doug Yule solo album. But, no—I guess that's a new way to make money out of bands that way.
no record company wanted to release a Yule solo album.
Grave funky les gars ya un truc a creuser lol
Anyone else come here from pornhub or is it just me ;)
me too ;)
Nope LOL Not that I've never used PH, I actually came here from a countdown complaining about Yule replacing Reed here, but Paice on drums is cool. It has a Beatles/Wings vibe....
AHAHAHA
OMG HAHAHAHAA
Yeesh. No wonder Lou wanted no part of Yule in the hall.
@Shore P
That's interesting. I agree that Yule should have been in.
yeah I mean - what the hell? The guy sang the opening AND closing songs on their 3rd and 4th albums. That has to count for something! :)
+Shore Portraits
+Bazarov
Guys. The whole Velvet Underground members relationship was really fucked up. So, just enjoy their music and deal with it ;)
+Nakuru Kinomoto for me Doug Yule was very good.....
Mo and Sterling wanted Yule to join the reunion tour but it was Cale that vetoed that.
A Beatles rip-off of a song dissing Lou Reed on a sham VU album...and yet I can't help but like it. I feel like such a traitor.
I cannot find that tune. Do you have a link?
it sounds quite generic, but still a great classic rock record...... even bought a copy :D
Sounds a lot like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" too.
elirosen1391 duh duh da duh duh da duh da duh. I was thinking that, the piano playing a similar rhythym, it's cool Ian Paice played drums on this
Who, Lou Reed?
At 4:30'
The vocals sounds like a religious song,
That' s so sweet!
not a great songwriter but a good musician and singer. his vocals on previous albums were great
Sounds more like While my Guitar Gently Weeps.
I have come to a conclusion: I like the melody but I hate the lyrics! After 2:30 it really begins working with the piano and synth interplay.
This album needs to be re-released* as "Squeeze: Doug Yule."
____
* My understanding is that the record was never released in the US in 1973 and only limited amounts of import copies were sold. Any truth to that?
Agreed with those who mention The Beatles likeness, 'Hey Bulldog' comes to mind in parts. To me it sounds like said Fab Four had collaborated with the Grateful Dead.
Also, the intro - along with being reminiscent, good spot, of Lennon's 'Rememember - sounds as if it is going to break out into the theme tune to The Sweeney (fantastically gritty '70s British cop programme) at any moment.
Now this is a lot better than everything Doug does with Red Dog now. A pity, actually...
Not bad, Doug should'nt have used the VU name, but what I've heard from this Album so far has a nice early 70's vibe.
reminiscent of early Beatles, yes or no?
This makes Loaded sound dark and heavy, apiece with all those highly remembered Emitt Rhodes LPs. I must go listen to Sister Ray now, and wash this off of me.
this is actually pretty good... i know its not really VU but doug yule was a good musician in his own right nice to finally hear this makes me wonder where he is now
He makes violins in Seattle now. Back in 2000 he had an album called "Doug Yule: Live In Seattle" with an awesome version of "Sweet Jane"
