Velvet Underground, The - Coney Island Steeplechase Lyrics

Would you like to go on the Coney Island Steeple
Go and have a good time
We'll take the subway right down to King's Highway
Gonna have a good time
If it's all right it would be so nice
If you come and go with me
The roller-coaster you and me
Just try

Would you like to go on the Coney Island Steeple
Go and have a good time
Like a sister and brother we'll cling to each other
When they find out their parents aren't there
Oh it'd be so nice
Like choco with ice
Oh if you come and go with me
How nice it would be
Don't be so shy

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Maybe not Friday
Saturday, Sunday
Coney Island, Coney Island, Coney Island ...

Velvet Underground, The Coney Island Steeplechase Comments
  1. L.... C....

Kings Highway? The Coney Island train stopped at Stillwell Ave.

  2. L.... O....

Superb. I used to play this tune in my old band. I love it.

  3. B.... ....

Just heard a cleaned up version of this with a clear vocal and it's not the same.

  4. S.... C....

Like a sister and brother they cling to each when they find out their parents are mad

  5. S.... C....

A masterpiece of Indie rock before that term was even invented. Recorded in May 1969 and still fresh and timeless today . One of my favourite VU tracks. Gorgeous, playful, melodic..and that megaphone vocal makes me melt.

  6. A.... S....

All vocals are Lou. No Doug on this song.

    A.... S....

I was just thinking that and whether the verses were sung by Doug, then little vocal inflections had Lou written all over it. Classic!

  7. H.... ....

Who disliked this? It is a pre-70's glam/glitter rock master piece.👽

    H.... ....

Haha I was about to ask "who the heck would give this song a thumbs down?!"

  8. m.... ....

damn julian casablancas definitely took inspiration from this vocal recording style

    m.... ....

What a rip off he is!

  9. R.... D....

    Thank u Lou, wherever u r! XXX

  10. S.... C....

I have a pure love for this man..v

  11. e.... ....

    Rip Lou.. you´ll be missed...

  12. M.... ....

yeah Strokes....another lost /not so lost classic by VU

  13. F.... F....

    Credence Clearwater revival, Suzey Q?

  14. J.... P....

AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMIN.....

  15. J.... P....

listen to the Amboy Dukes, Journey to the Center of the Mind.

  16. J.... P....

    Ahhhhhh a lovely diddy

    J.... P....

    Ditty, but yes it is!

  17. m.... ....

    Nope, it's definitely all Lou.

  18. M.... ....

i'm pretty sure that the muffled singing in the first two verses is by Doug. Lou joins him at around 1:20.

  19. B.... T....

That's why they make great music.

  20. c.... ....

    just a little bit :)

  21. p.... ....

The Strokes may have heard this

    p.... ....

That should explain their inspiration by the Velvets lol.

  22. c.... ....

    i'm quite sure it's lou's

  23. l.... ....

This is awsome!!! is one of my new velvets favourite song. By the way, is it lou's voice or doug yule's?

  24. I.... F....

THAT vocal technique ( whatever the term for it, I dont know ) would've sounded pretty strange back in the 60's, I'd think. I mean it's pretty comon and familiar TODAY ( it's done on lots of recordings nowadays ), but I don't think anybody els in the 60's were doing THAT .

  25. O.... C....

Description here is misleading. Another View was a compilation released in 1986, not an album of original songs.

  26. D.... B....

    Mo Tucker drumming heaven.

    D.... B....

    Check the Liminanas.
    Marie the drummer.
    Very basic minimal drum kit.
Uses the sticks the wrong way round to to hit drums harder too. 👍
