Velvet Underground, The - Beginning To See The Light Lyrics

Well, I'm beginning to see the light.
Well, I'm beginning to see the light.
Some people work very hard,
but still they never get it right.
Well, I'm beginning to see the light.

I wanna tell all you people, now.
Now, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.
Hey, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.

Wine in the mornin', and some breakfast at night.
Well, I'm beginning to see the light.

Here we go again, playing the fool again.
Here we go again, acting hard again.
All right!
Well, I'm beginning to see the light!
I wanna tell you, ooh-oh-oh!
Hey, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light!
It comes very softly now.
I wore my teeth in my hands so I could miss the hell of a night.
Hey! Well, I'm beginning to see the light!
Now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now, baby,
I'm beginning to see the light, now!
It comes softer!
Hey, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.

I met myself in a dream, and I just want to tell you,
Everything was alright.
Hey, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.

Here comes two of you.
Which one will you choose?
One is black and one is blue,
Don't know just, what to do.
Alright!

Well, I'm beginning to see the light, oh, now, here she comes!
Hey, yeah, baby, I'm beginning to see the light!
Oh-ahhhh!
Some people work very hard,
But still they never get it right.
Well, I'm begiing to see the light.
Ah, it's getting a little softer, maybe, in there.
Now, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.
Ah, it's coming around again,
Hey, now, now, now, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.
One more time.
There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!
Oh, baby, I'm beginning to see the light.

Here we go again,
I thought that you were my friend.
Here we go again,
I thought that you were my friend.
How does it feel, to be loved?
How does it feel, to be loved?

My favourite song apart from Rush Rush Gimme Yayo.

That looks like Doug Yule off to the far right, maybe looking at Reed. Likely or not? There's Cale. Yule came after Cale was out of the band. Maybe some of the gang got together anyway, minus Nico. I think the blonde is Edie Sedgewick. Is that Moe in there? Interesting picture.

  7. N.... ....

My late mother didn't like the Transformer album cover. She thought it was perverted. I told her I didn't have any interest in the art work, I just liked the song "Satellite of Love."

  60. J.... B....

There are problems in these times ,but none of them are mine.

    J.... B....

You're beginning to see the light.

    J.... B....

@John Moseley I saw it as stoicism rather than satire or being selfish. There are big problems in the world but there's nothing he can do about it so what's the point in worrying about it.

    J.... B....

@AdAm AnDrEwS But he's not saying there's nothing he can do, he's saying 'None of them [the problems] are mine.' Put that with 'beginning to see the light' and I think you've got a picture of hippy meditation types, seeking salvation within, but not societal liberation. The general knockabout tone adds to the sense that none of this is really to be taken seriously. Plus the general, simplistic optimism of it all isn't exactly in keeping with most of the VU's other stuff.

But maybe there's another way of looking at it, which is as a fleeting mood, these moments one can have when things suddenly seem very simple and easy, even though it'll likely give way to a return to difficulty at some point.

    Sorry if I'm overthinking it.

    J.... B....

@Frank You also have to know how to be selfull.

another of my faves i hate some of the the crappy things people are listening to in recent timesbecause it just ruines the classics(im talking about j.b,mostly)

  90. o.... ....

    @bonesintheriver
I always thought it was,"I wore my teeth in my hands so I could MISS the hair of the night." I think that it's about pasting your dentures to your hands while you sleep to keep you from masturbating...thus 'missing' the the hair of the night....because there was some superstition that if you masturbated you would grow hair on your palms.

    o.... ....

    thats nuts but funny..

  91. W.... ....

this is real rockn roll my friendsss

  92. b.... f....

Some people work very hard but still they never get it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

none of them are mine! Go Lou

  93. L.... H....

    1:26-1:27 best ever

  94. k.... ....

    @ZenPapageno
Yes, with her third arm that comes out of her arse, but you can see it only if you're on heroin, lsd and coke at the same time. If you then add amphetamine to the cocktail you'll notice that she's also masturbating John Cale and Andy Warhol with her fourth and fifth arms that look like a tail... that's why it's called a 'cocktail'...

  95. W.... ....

i met myself in a dream & just wanna tell ya everythin was allright!

    W.... ....

    this is so f@#$%@ awesome

  96. w.... ....

Baby, "Beginning to See the Light"...

  97. L.... C....

@ZenPapageno In an interview around the time the album came out, Lou said "What that means is it's just so sad. If the narrator has to ask how it feels to be loved, the means he has never known it."

What other meaning comes to your mind? Being loved in the sexual sense?

  98. L.... C....

@666adamski The banana album always gets the most praise, but I just love the 3rd album more than anything else. So I'm glad someone else loves it too!
Such a perfect album, with each song showing off a different strength: Lou's lyrics and relentless rhythm guitar, Sterling's jackhammer guitar attack, Moe's drumming and innocent girly vocals, and some nice contributions from the underrated Doug Yule.
So great, and it still sounds like it could have come out recently, even in 2010.

    L.... C....

    Even in 2018

    L.... C....

Theres no bannana album you made up "gender"

  99. C.... Z....

This song made me see the light.
