Veil Of Maya - We Bow In Its Aura Lyrics

Triumphant beyond its glory
Like a towering prize they stand tall
From their hands a demonic entity, as it comes to life
The electric playground breathes irradiant light
Muses the eyes of the faithful with a single touch
The electric playground
Muses the eyes of the faithful with a single touch
Cauterization envelops your soul as all joy drains
From your body
Knees collapsing, you bow in its aura
In the crowd a head gives the word
With a blue glow the playground comes to life
Unveiling the secret in us all
Knees collapsing, we bow in its aura

Veil Of Maya We Bow In Its Aura Comments
  1. chris green

2:18 is when the party kicks off

  2. devmanify

Everyone praised Sumerian in the day and now we fucking have Poppy pushed down our throats. #makemetaldjentagain

  3. ThursdayMonkey475

Damn, dude. Had to swing by and check out some old tracks for old time's sake. I played this whole album out to absolute death for almost two years. I remember listening to it back to back about 3 to 4 times a day for a while. It helped me through some insanely tough times. Common Man's Collapse is, in my opinion, the godfather album to listen to if you want to grasp the progressive, melodic death metal sound in it's "core" variant. Other influences as well and decently tech as well. One of the greatest of all time, in my opinion. This album shaped my tastes and influenced me heavily.

  4. Z S

    this entire album is perfect.

  5. S G

Nvm I do miss this VOM:’(

  6. Oh-not-the-bees

They'll never have this kind of energy again. Everything is too produced now.

    devmanify

Dude yes raw energy gets lost in a stale digital mix. Don't get me wrong I appreciate good production especially on vocals but man it's not the same

    Laurence

This album was the best man

    Arian Madadi

i mean compare this to All Things Set Aside and this sounds too produced too. Its all relative

  7. Shinjaw

They opened with this last week! And yall said they wouldn't play this shit anymore.

    Shinethelight

I saw them 2 weeks ago in Pittsburgh it was great...they opened with Winter is Coming, and they played this too.

    Curious Fiend

Wow, that must've been an epic experience.

    Alan

In my opinion it’s one of the greatest metal albums ever written and it’s safe to swim today is the best metal song hands down. I know people may disagree but I think this album (and all things set aside) bridge the gap between melodic and tech death metal perfectly.

    Hunter M

@Alan hard to say best but this is top tier for sure

  15. 儲辰郡

The breakdown of we bow in its aura can be used to the crabcore

    Bradyo

stfu. Crabcore is reserved for Attack Attack!

  16. Penguin Chan

In todays standards, this still blow everything else out the water. The age when metal core was turning into death core. What a moment of time

  21. Gabriel Barrios

When they was djentCORE not the metalcore/progressive of today

    Devon Boes

Gabriel Barrios i stopped listening honestly when Butler left the band its just not the same with clean vocals

  22. 儲辰郡

The breakdown so incredibly that to use metalcore crabcore

  26. kourey wheeler

This eclipse and I'd were the veil I knew I am not a fan at all of the new stuff

  27. Convince us

I love this bands earliest albums as much as Deftones earlier albums. That underlying raw ruthlessness is fukn powerful.

  28. Dank Tranquillity

First song I heard by them. Will never forget. Absolute masterpiece

  29. fireadept007

Deserves so many more likes, you lazy fucks.

  30. mikehabada

just came back to this after listening to the new VOM

    Alexi Luffy

    Charles Lee Ray

Most definitely and I had a go at your ex too...

  36. Rayne Leaf

old VOM is sick as fuck, new VOM is sick as fuck.
    there ya go

    Ashton Dixon-Bell

    They rule regardless! \m/

    Garrett

old vom is not the new vom. old vom is eats new vom alive.

  37. youssef yassini

    best riffy djent song ever.

    meatw4d

Deathcore is the word you are looking for.

    The Light of Dawn

Early deathcore was great. Too bad the genre has pretty much gone to shit with all these new bands

  38. AntiGravity

That last breakdown from 2:21 onward is fucking legendary.

    Karnage Fails

Yeah lol,,,shit hits the fan at that point.

  39. Astral Realmz

    This song will live on

  40. Michael Psyche

0:43 - 1:10 so fucking CHOPPY. Too good.
But god damn, 1:10, that shit was groovy and weird as fuck, I miss this so dearly.
2:15 and so forth, such a great ending to a song.

    Seppukuu

It almost sounded alienesque to me. I dig it.

    Michael Psyche

It's has a dark, eerie bittersweet vibe to it.

    Haily Melendez

For some reason 1:10 gave me Castlevania vibes

  41. John Towey

i cant handle this song its to much to keep inside

  42. Taco Crisma

good tech band turned whinecore. sad.

  43. seven

  44. Brenden Wilson

Imo, this band still slays. Yes they've changed and you could argue that this was there prime, but I think the New album was incredible. Hate me.

    Karnage Fails

No hate.I forget the name of the group but check out a song called "Make Total Destroy". You'll know it when you see it.
The newer stuff reminds me of it and that's not bad.

    U FUKIN WOT M8

    thats periphery mate

    Zeptic

Probably because Misha and Marc are like best buddies.

    Garrett

    we do hate you

    U FUKIN WOT M8

i think the new album is their best work yet! plus his voice is porn for the ears.

  45. Phillip Clark

I'm honestly in love with the sound of that guitar!!! :D

  46. bloozism

how can a band go from this to just absolute shit. i don't get it.

    Taco Crisma

    kurac

    Alexi Luffy

ikr. false idol is an amazing metalcore album. maybe give false idol a try if you hate matriarch

    Matt M

Fukken right! False Idol is bonkers :)

  47. Stickman Zed

    These guys were awesome live.

  48. Hamsterwheel

I can't get over how technically astonishing those opening riffs are. I've been playing guitar for over 15 years, studied music theory for about 4 years and I'm stunned everytime I listen to it.

    Ownuts

yeah, everyone is always like "oh best breakdown" and shit, but these riffs are the real deal imo, they sound so fucking awesome too

  49. Mr Dee

    When Veil of Maya ruled.

    Charles Lee Ray

Cocoa Leroy that’s no excuse and I haven’t heard their new stuff

    VoiD

    They still do rule

    XXX ADVERSAIRUS

    Shut your face 😂

    XXX ADVERSAIRUS

    @rnodify obviously trolling.

    Marc Cram

@rnodify honestly if every song was Lukas screaming like in phoenix from matriarch itd probably be more badass..he can sing sometimes

  50. Ultranationalist

    1:11
    YEEES

    Seppukuu

    pimpofdoom got damn son

    Seppukuu

    pimpofdoom open up the pit

  51. Guillaume Frappier

Damn, been a long time that a didnt listen to VoM, the breakdown at 2:36 always make me headbang so hard that I break my neck everytime..

  52. Eveiy Haley

I had heard that these guys sucked from a few people but now that I listen to them myself I love em

  53. Benzedrine Shapiro

Veil were mental in their heyday. The riffs in this song are still bonkers.

    coppcole

They're a pain in the ass to play as well. Hopefully they'll go back to their old ways soon enough. Imagine what other crazy shit is lurking in that guitarists head, waiting to be unlocked? They were awesome.

    devmanify

Fucking facts the riffs are still different and aggressive to this day

    Winston Carter

Marc Okubo is an arpeggio machine my man

  54. kxrider70

    Blow out

  55. kakashi3d

Some sort of business going on

  56. scapenerd77

This needs to be re-visited and re-done. It would sound so much better with the recording equipment they have now.

    theBOSpaladin101

    @scapenerd77 Too late now

    yucksuan

+Dingus McBrungus that's michael keene and misha mansoor for you...

    Tim_Sean

I thought the same thing about BoO's New Reign and then I ended up hating the re-recorded version. Same with August Burns Red Messengers album. They re-recorded it and it sounds horrible now. I think the way VoM sounds now works for the music they make now. I think it'd be best to leave this masterpiece alone and let it stand as a beacon of great metal history.

    TeamSesh97

Tim_Sean yeah the august burns red remaster sounds so shitty so u have a good point there nd id feel the same way about this record

    Julian Salazar

Are you deaf? Some shit doesn’t need to be redone.

  57. Jared Alexander

Second best song on the album!

    Bunters196

    What's the first?

    Jared Alexander

Entry level exit wounds... just my opinion. I means all the fucking songs are really great but that song is so intricate.

  58. tristananvilcaster

    These guys murder

    Stefancore

idk if you're the same guy commenting on every video I see or your pic is popular

  59. kxrider70

    Speedy.... Melodic ...... Awesome

  60. RelicMedia

    One of their best .

  61. Alec Levy

I love their lyrics and their drums and their everything and this goddamn band so much

  62. Dreginy Let's Plays

Not big on Deathcore but this isn't half bad. Definitely doesn't even begin to hold a candle to what they're named after, though.

    Mike Scanlan

Mmm yea but its not Deathcore. They're a progressive metal band.

    Caleb Bliss

Well at the very least thus song has over 60 time signature changes, which makes being able to even count this song impressive, and drumming with that many time signatures is insane

    Dreginy Let's Plays

@***** Veil of Maya is the name of a song by a super influential band in the progressive death metal scene, named Cynic. I suggest you check out their first album Focus, or at least the song Veil of Maya.

    IndianDrummer17

@Dreginy Let's Plays I'm pretty sure they're named after the Hindu Illusion, Maya.

    Nick Clutter

@Dreginy Let's Plays lol deathcore lol

  63. Didierrulezd00d

Can someone please tell me what effect or effects Marc is using for the melodies at 1:16 and 3:12?

    Heinrick192

Either this ^, or he's using a Rotary Speaker effect

    Didierrulezd00d

Thank you guys! I thought I wasn't going to get an answer. The effects sound so sick and creepy!

    ♕ King Diesel ♕

I used to play guitar all the time, but I tried to learn that sick ass part at 1:16 as well and I got that sound from a little phaser/tremolo and slight delay/reverb effect. (I had the Line 6 Spider IV amp with built in FX)

    EpilepticSeptic

@KxDmusic i know what you mean...i have a line 6 spider 4 and i used sci fi baby tone to play the two parts marc uses effects on...it sound fucking badass even for a creepy sick sounding melody like that :)

    ♕ King Diesel ♕

    Nice! Respect, homie.

  64. Jonathan hicks-pepin

This shit is pretty intense, love it

  65. Bring me Peter pan

i remember seeing these guys with faceless in toronto, small show, watched someone get booted right in the fuckin face when they bent down in the mosh pits, nothing like 200 people all at once hitting the symbol on faceless an autopsy

  66. Bring me Peter pan

what the hell is djent? all i hear is music

    Matt G

Djent is a subgenre that covers everything from Meshuggah to Animals As Leaders, it originates from a sound commonly used in these kind of songs but has now come to mean everything that has lots of time changes, polyrhythms or odd, unpredictable riffs

    Richard Reney

    @Matt G djent isn't a genre its a playing style.

    Matt G

It's become a genre really but I swear to god I will never get in a genre argument so I really don't care

    Jesse Bowles

    Youre a djent

    But does it dj0nt?

  67. Kris Rehfuss

    Still their best breakdown ever

    Dustin Rogers

    THIS ONE IS THE GOAT

    Eric Wisel

I disagree, it’s a very good game, but I think donkey Kong is the best game ever

    RED VELVET 벨벳

It’s bouncy as fuck, definitely agree. Especially the back half of the breakdown when it gets slightly melodic, big nut

    Blue Dream

Still one of the best songs in metal even today

  68. John Gehring

I listen to this song every day. EVERY FUCKIN' DAY.

    Jared Alexander

Right on! I lost this cd years ago. I regret it now. Yes cd I know im old but Im poor too. Lol

    shmeed4

    Jared Alexander

    poor peeps torrent!

    Daniel P

re discovered these guys through a Twitch stream. I'm stoked brings me back. Too fucking good

  69. Marc Ng

HAHAH dude i know exactly what you mean by that. especially starting from 1:15.. i feel like i am surrounded by spirits when i hear that part lol.

  70. Randy zakas

  71. Bloorane

Now I hate to be "that" guy, but fuck me sideways if that shit isn't miles ahead of what they just released.

    Alright, i'll say it...

    They used to be better.

  72. StoIenLogic

One day I'm gonna go on youtube and the top comment of every fucking metal video won't be whining about people arguing in the comments. Who the fuck cares man, do you come to music videos for the comments or the music?

  73. xVictimOfADownx1

Oh, well he does make a good point. I guess I can agree.

  74. FutureSequence

I understand, it just seems odd to me to call old vom (so) brutal, even in relation to new vom.

  75. FutureSequence

We're not talking about the same video, /watch?v=eq_fvJAR8d8

  76. xVictimOfADownx1

I've seen that interview and he seemed to agree with it since you can find similar bands by looking up the tag but he wasn't sold on the authenticity of it being anything substantial to be a djenre.

  77. FutureSequence

And the groovyness, progressiveness and the harsh vocals. But yeah, he was correct. There's no objective definition, every one decides whether the characteristics of djent bands are enough for it to be a separate genre, or just "scene". That's why there are many arguments, like this, on this subject. Although, even Tosin Abasi said it's a genre, and gave arguments similar to mine.

  78. xVictimOfADownx1

I mean you wouldn't get anal about people calling Popol Vuh progressive rock even though it's from the krautrock scene would you? Since it's such a vague term since that it's only in relation to a scene it's ridiculous to make it out to be any more than it actually is.

  79. xVictimOfADownx1

Djent is a scene, a lot like the krautrock scene in Germany in the 60's-70's predominantly and doesn't have baseline like other genres. I mean you use Meshuggah even though they pulled far more tech. thrash metal influence then say the modern metalcore and alternative music scenes that Monuments, Periphery, Tesseract etc. bands are influenced by. The ONLY thing that keeps Meshuggah in relation to what they have influenced is their guitar-tone and palm-muted dissonant poly-rhythmic riffs.

  80. Ian Stephens

HEY, who gives a fuck what it is? Listen to it and quit arguing over stupidity

  81. meth0d

I don't think you understand the meaning of objectivity. Just because you self-proclaim to detect "distinguishable differences", it doesn't mean other people would perceive those differences to be as substantial as you do, or even perceive them at all for that matter.

    I'm not arguing anymore.

  82. FutureSequence

Wrong. Listen to djent bands, and then listen to bands off of other metal sub-genres, and tell me that there are no distinguishable characteristics that make djent seperate from those other genres. Djent = Meshuggah. "modern post-2000's" djent wave = Monuments, Tesseract, old Periphery, Uneven Structure, Vildhjarta etc.

  83. meth0d

No it is not. The definition of djent in and of itself, as far as I can tell, has no baseline definition. There is no concrete agreed-upon standard for djent. You cannot scientifically prove or disprove whether or not something is or is not djent. It's just not possible.

I was actually arguing against the fact that this song had djent influence if you actually read what I was saying and what I replied to, instead of blindly looking for a reason to argue with someone on the internet.

  84. FutureSequence

That's actually objective. If you didn't imply that it's a djent song, why did you mention that you listen to djent bands?

  85. McSkattle

I was comparing newer VoM to older VoM, not an overrated band like Cannibal. Sorry just don't dig them much.

  86. meth0d

I never said it was a djent song, and it's subjective regardless, so why argue?

  87. FutureSequence

This is not a djent song. This is a technical deathcore song.

  88. FutureSequence

Is this really "brutal" to you? What is Cannibal Corpse in a brutality scale then?

  89. x Moon

Haha why thank you sir.. I do appreciate it.

  90. Among The Seeking Official

    or an onomatopoeia?
a sound that sounds like the word haha a verb is an action
and adjective is something to describe a noun, how is djent describing a noun, a person place or thing, you can describe djent, you can say its an onomatopoeia, but then your entire comment would be thrown into a spiral of wrong, because you would have stated that djent is not an adjective or verb

  91. Alex Blankenship

    greatest comment of all time

  92. SinnedNogara

Djent is an adjective, sometimes a verb

  93. x Moon

One day I'm gonna go on youtube to listen to some music..
I'm gonna scroll down through the comments and I'm gonna find that people aren't arguing about genre or technicalities or musicianship etc..
I'm gonna pause the video, go to my closet to get my Remington and load one 00buck shell in the chamber.
I'm gonna un-pause the video, close my eyes and listen to the whole song.
Then when its over, I'm gonna blow my fucking head off, because i have officially seen all there is to see in life.

  94. McSkattle

I understand that. I honestly like what work Keene has done on the old albums though. I felt it just had more death metal in the tone which I prefer over Misha's mixing.

  95. McSkattle

Djent is not a genre first of all. It's been explained many times by everyone who is categorized as "djent" when they are prog metal, but if you mean Meshuggah influenced, then yes, they are. You can hear it in Marc's rhythms definitely. SO IF I MAY SAY AGAIN. VEIL OF MAYA IS NOT DJENT INFLUENCED.

  96. Cooper Crippen

They absolutely are djent influenced. You are wrong. WELCOME TO THE INTERNET BITCH
