They sound just as great live, which huge. So many bands have top notch production, but are terrible live. Not these fellas.

How do you people even maintain a music collection? Either you're rich, you have literally no other interests you might spend money on, or you pretty much don't. Or you can 'pirate', lol.
Any self-respecting artist would much rather have you hear their music for free than not at all because you can't afford it. If they don't, they don't deserve being payed for their art in the first place.

I said "any self-respecting artist". If people really like your album, they'll buy it. Expecting people to pay money for something they haven't fully heard yet is crazy, don't you think?
This song happens to be from one of my favourite albums, and I'm definitely going to buy it if I ever come across it. But if you send me a band I don't know, and I want to check out a couple of their albums? No, I'm not going to pay MONEY for their material I don't even know whether I like yet, are you crazy? And I'm also not going to spend hours sitting in front of a PC for it; that shit is going to my mp3 player.

Besides, how old are you? Most bands nowadays (those who aren't deluded) really don't expect their money to come from album sales anymore, and focus on merchandise and concert tickets. It was probably different in your day, but the whole "pirating" thing really isn't as much of a problem as older generations think.

The idea of making something that is meant to be art, and then going "Hey, you think I'm doing this just for the art? We all gotta eat" just seems so pathetic and off-putting. Like, how sad is your life if you would complain that you should receive payment because someone enjoyed something you created?

Sometimes I wonder if, as you say, I'll change my mind once I start putting more effort in my own music project. But I doubt it. I would probably immediately stop having any wish or motivation to write music as soon as I start viewing it as a possible source of income.

I listen to this and think that Eclipse really wasn't better or worse than ID. Its slightly different, but you can tell that its Marc Okubo behind the guitar. The only thing that makes it seem like their new album is significantly different from their old stuff is the production, which gives their chugging riffs a more djenty sound. That's about it though.

he's one hell of a guitarist. I always come back to id and Eclipse because they both have such a distinct sound. I could see how people think VoM is generic from the surface but they're so much better than that

Well, yes i can see what you mean. If part of that is because Mowgli and The glass slide sound similar its because they are supposed to. Both of those songs are part of a 3 part song cycle. I love all the albums though. They definitely are one of the better prog bands out there.

Nothing happened. If you played the guitar you would realize that Marc Okubo still has the same rhythmic style. He still uses tons of lead playing. Eclipse only sounds more "generic" because the production makes it sound more djenty.

 You guys are being way too sensitive. There are plenty of simple chord progressions that are easy when played slowly but hard when you bring the tempo up to like 120-up. I love this band too, they are incredible, but no need to be one of those tight-ass metal elitist douches.

Tosin's music does make sense theory wise. I would suggest reading an entire comment before replying. The last sentence of my comment says "It doesn't sound good to me", which means, it doesn't sound good to me. I made it clear that it was my opinion and never implied that what I said was fact.

that's subjective. this whole conversation is subjective. "showing off" however i believe would not be the right choice of words considering music can be a lot of emotion. and "tosin just can't write very well" what do you mean by that? what he rights doesn't sound good? that's subjective. what he rights doesn't make sense (theory wise)? i doubt that, considering tosin has extensive knowledge on music considering he studied music.

One does not simply play one Veil of Maya guitar part. Managing loopers is a skill within itself as far as I concerned.

There's a million guitarist that can play things that will impress you. I judge more on their writing ability, and Tosin just can't write very well. He's a great guitarist, but what he plays just sounds like garbage. His music is just him repeating the same things at different places of the fretboard and showing off how fast he can play. It doesn't sound good to me.

Dude...What? Why would his playing both guitar roles effect the drummers role to provide the tempo? He's simply playing both roles. Like he plays the rhythm guitar then hits the looper and plays the solo guitar's rift.

If he has a looper switch and the drums hold the tempo when you play, does that mean his looped guitar is at a set tempo and the drums go off his guitar? it's kind of backwards to a normal band playing live and going off the tempo of the drums.
