Vega, Suzanne - Solitaire Lyrics
Black on the red and the red on the black.
It's a tic of a tired mind.
Come and sit down, won't you try your luck.
See if you unwind.
Follow superstition.
Otherwise you are going to lose.
Compulsion makes you listen.
Take what's wrong, and make it go right.
Weave it like a prayer.
Wonder if you you'll spend the night?
Playing solitaire?
Do it again, when you find you're all done.
Shuffle up your luck. You see, you almost won.
Now wrestle down what you want.
Jack on the Queen, and the ten on the Jack.
It's a happy repetition.
You and your fate in a kind of check-mate.
And you are your only competition.
Take what's wrong, and make it go right.
Wonder if you you'll spend the night?
Playing solitaire?

Vega, Suzanne Solitaire Comments
Brilliant.
Ever since I first heard this song, I have wondered just what the song is all about.I know Solitaire is a card game one plays alone. Most of Suzanne's songs have doublemeanings, or are about situations in life. This song is cleverly written, but I just can'tfigure out what its about. Can anyone enlighten me?
+Gary Dunn Its OK, I have just watched her singing this song "Live" and shetells the audience that the song is about "Obsession" She uses the gameSolitaire as an example of an obsession that can squander a persons time, time that could be spent doing other more meaningful things.
+Gary Dunn You're absolutely right - most of Suzanne's songs have multiple layers of meaning. I can't count the times I've listened to The Queen And The Soldier and found new beauty in it, after thousands of times.
This, however, is a simple song, not much more than it seems. It's about obsessiveness for something unimportant, that makes you lose track of reality around you.
+Yuval Mishory Yeah, you are right, its about the obsessive computer game generation, and all the wasted time they spendon it. I've known for a long time, that most of her songs have multiple layers to them, not your usual superficial Pop song.Suzanne is a very good song writer, and writes songs that are notfor the masses. Thank you.
