Vannelli, Gino - Jack Miraculous Lyrics

My my my what a marvellous life
Wear your patent leather shoes
Gotta win and never lose
Oh then why oh why, oh Jack I cry
Save your life and flee today

Why why why such a glorious guy
Easy friends are easy foe
Who you never know
Oh then my oh my, oh Jack you'll die
Save your life and run away

What are my chances of living
If I were to stay close to you
Jack all this crime and no giving
I couldn't do for you

What are my chances of living
If I were to stay close to you
Jack all this crime and no giving
I couldn't see for me

What a life
Damn your patent leather shoes
Come the time to pay your dues
Oh then fly and fly dear Jack goodbye
Save your life and run away
Today

Masterpiece. Though I already knew 'Living Inside Myself', I only really discovered Gino's music this year (better late than never). It's simultaneously totally 1970 and ahead of its time/timeless. His compositions are a total unique mix of R&B, Progressive Pop, Jazz Fusion with an often dash of Musical Theater/Rock Opera Drama that only his unique vocal ability can carry. He belongs in the same 'unique' roster of 70s great like Steely Dan, Queen, Elton John, who in their own way made sophisticated popular music with a very strong sense of personal identity/musical character.

  7. d.... ....

This song & brother to brother are my most memorable songs in the early 70s. Great time for innovation

  8. T.... G....

I CAN NOT believe I have missed listening to this GEM of a musical masterpiece for the 40 odd years it has been out. I have been hitting the 'REPLAY' button for a dozen times of so. I just can't get enough of this arrangement. By a series of circumstances, I recently started listening to Gino's many, many other songs besides his initial hit: "I JUST WANNA STOP". Had I known what a incredibly talented musician he is, I would have been going to as many of his concerts as I could have squeezed in. The breadth and variety of his many compositions is probably the one factor that has kept him from being the 'international monster' (as commented by Rich Green) that he could of been - had he stuck to a formulaic style all these years. Fortunately for those of us that like their music varied, engaging and exciting, he has stayed true to HIS formula of what music can be. Thank you GINO, from the bottom of my heart.

  25. M.... M....

On Spotify their is a live version from a radio program of this song. It's was incredibly fast tempo. Amazing version. I think it was recorded in Philadelphia.

  26. M.... L....

A true example of why you will never see or hear a Gino Tribute Band anywhere. Finding local musicians with the chops and talent to pull it off are no where to be found. The young one's have no clue who he is. And the old one's with experience never got that good musically.

  27. B.... ....

REAL AND MARVELOUS MUSIC MADE WITH REAL AND MARVELOUS MUSICIANS AND INSTRUMENTS: FENDER RHODES ELECTRIC PIANO + HAMMOND B3 ORGAN + DRUMS + BASS + GUITARS + GINO VANNELLI = GREAT MASTERPIECE!.

  28. R.... D....

ME-RA-VI-GLIO-SA ! era il 1974...e che Musica!!!!! Grandissimo.

  29. R.... G....

And you have to remember in 1974 they didn't have polyphonic synths, digital delays, or reverb that didn't fit in a huge closet made of a block of metal.  They didn't have anything but true instruments and people that knew, through years of practice, how to use them.  No arrpegiators, no rap, just single oscillator boards, a dual oscillator Mini Moog, a Rhodes Suitcase, an ARP String Ensemble, a Clavinette with real strings and mechanical dampers, and a Hammond B3 organ. Archaic by today's standards but classic music by all standards.

    R.... G....

Hola, Victor!  They did do a lot with very little, my friend.  Muchos gracias for writing buddy! Buenos, amigo!

    R.... G....

@victor manuel torres cruz I don't Vic, I wish I did for you.I remember them very well though.  Sorry brother.

    R.... G....

Rich Green you should join our Gino Vannelli Fan Club USA & Canada ...please do we do need fans like you and you can share with us ...we are truly Die Hard fans of his ...some like Mary have been following him for over 20yrs ..please an invitation is sent

  30. B.... P....

I thank my 10 year older brother for introducing me to Gino as a kindergarten/primary school kid in the '70s. Didn't particularly like it then, but by the time I got to my teens I thankfully saw the light. This was one of the first tracks that grabbed me and is still one of my favorites. Masterpiece indeed. From a sadly forgotten era when all music genres were at their collective creative/innovative apex driven by raw passion. A waning memory of better times until one is transported back by listening to gems like this.
Ahead of it's time?? Maybe not, as that would imply we should've seen or heard more of the same since, and since that hasn't occurred, we should then be in anticipation of a "second-coming". Call me cynical, but I can't see that happening...

  31. J.... ....

It's not ahead of it's time ... because time will never catch up :-)

  32. J.... ....

From all angles the song is a masterwork ... Stop on a dime, change tempo ... a beautiful synth harmony that really dissonates the melody ... drums, bass ... and of course one of the most powerful voices in music history ... The whole thing is an ARTWORK in Music.

    J.... ....

    Totally agree with you

    J.... ....

    Perfect description

  33. D.... R....

    Drums, bass, synth - crazy.

  34. B.... B....

my favorite track. vocals from Heaven :)

  35. H.... ....

Not sure if words can describe  the brilliance of gino!  ??????????????

    H.... ....

yes yes ..that is so true and to believe he still hasn't been recognize with a Music Award to all he contributed to music to all the genres ...I am still discovering his music even thought a fan since the age of 19 got hooked on Crazy Life the minute I heard it..Love Affair never ending ...saw him 8times and cant wait to see him again perform ..he's just MAGICAL

  36. s.... e....

    Ahead of its time!

    s.... e....

way ahead of his time   a GENIUS

  37. R.... ....

Yeah, I love LOVE this song and everything is so tight. But, if you really concentrate on the drummer, yeah...it's INSANE drumming. Fantastic! This is my very favorite Gino song because everything just comes together in a tight way. Perfection!

  38. H.... ....

    WOW,WOW,WOW!!!!!!

  39. R.... ....

    Two people have no ears.

  40. B.... ....

    D-mn lol!!

  41. B.... ....

What did he say? (If you can remember 2 years later lol!!)

  42. C.... M....

Can't improve on the comments here, except to add my undiluted love and admiration for the talent that has inspired me for close on 40 years.....

  43. E.... S....

Hard to imagine it was 1974 this mix. Sounds super.

  44. H.... ....

Not even sure what to think about this as in all of its complexity , it sounds sooooo simple.

  45. F.... C....

    wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. a.... ....

you're right, this is fabulous. but then, gino always had kick-ass muscians, especially drummers. the drum solos on "apaloosa" and "brother to brother" are otherworldly. ...

  47. a.... ....

gino ALWAYS had tight musicians, especially drummers. the drum solos on appaloosa and brother to brother are otherworldly

  48. A.... ....

    So true!

  49. B.... ....

That is a very true statement. My theory is that the industry sought to slow him down; read, dumb him down. The industry wanted to reign him in and reduce him to pop, with no depth. But those of us who dug Gino in the 70's knew that he was pure genius. And he was just pop enough, but the depth always shined through. As the 80's progressed he had been robbed of the depth. He must have let his record company handlers dissuade him from substance.

  50. R.... G....

Gino Vanelli never really reached the stardom that he most definatly deserved. Im not sure why but it may be something behind the scenes. This guy should have been an international monster but only ended up with I believe one number one hit. This guy and his phenomenally talented brother Joe Vanelli always employed the creame of the crop musicians and produced some of the worlds greatest music, in my opinion. He skillfully created his own musical niche that no one could ever duplicate.

    R.... G....

Yes Mr. Rich Green I totally agree and we should start a Petition ..but I have a feeling that if a certain record Mogul would die of natural death of course not wishing any harm things will change ....never liked that man..never trusted him and after hearing what happened to Gino ..well that confirmed it all as to why I didn't like that man....and I think he's to Proud to admit that he did make a mistake with this Brilliant Artist a true Genius ..but today he is still recording and entertaining what happened to all those Artists that he backed ..disappeared or died of drug overdose.....hopefully someone will wake up and give Gino Vannelli his well earned reward not only him but the 3 Brothers Joe Vannelli, Gino Vannelli and Ross Vannelli,,,,..Gino always takes me on a Magic Carpet Ride with his music and his beautiful Voice

    R.... G....

Gino was kind of blackballed by his record company. They wanted him to record ballads like Air Supply but Gino wasn't having it. He continued to make incredible music and stayed true to himself. Saw him in L.A. in 2015 ... he was AMAZING.

  51. O.... ....

    Pure magic!!!

  52. M.... W....

Love this guy... and his hair !! Great voice.. .totally under appreciated and acknowledged!

  53. K.... Z....

    OMG beautiful magic music

  54. c.... ....

    Gino forever!!!

  55. l.... ....

WTF happened? The offspring of the good music generation did not raise the kids right; made them latch key and then they took over the music with drug lord and gang music.

  56. L.... S....

A TIME WHEN PLAYERS DARED TO DRAG THAT BIG ASS NASTY HB3 FOR KICKS!!!

  57. J.... B....

You said it friend. I'm a working musician & these guys are bad assed.Total package indeed! What did happen to this kind of quaility music. He is the king of half step chord changes!

  58. C.... B....

The perfect 3 minute compostion. I've never heard better!

  59. F.... T....

incredible talent. amazing musicianship. Gino is amazing.

  60. H.... N....

    @radicaster1

Absolutely !! It's the arrangement that made all that possible ... the mix is way ahead of its time too !!

  61. W.... W....

Respond to this video... It just don't get any better than this....

  62. W.... W....

@pianist007 Don't forget the arrangement and mix...

  63. X.... C....

We played this in the marching band in '87.Oh how I miss those days.

  64. p.... ....

@lxlandia Sad but true. Every bit of it.

  65. p.... ....

Greatest tune Gino and Joe Vanelli ever put out. Those chord changes on the B section kills. Everything comes together here. Nice synth solo!

  66. J.... H....

    Bad ass. Straight up jam.

  67. S.... D....

Yayy. I have to learn how to play the music from 1:14 on the trumpet lol

  68. j.... ....

@pianist007 The de-evolution of art form in this country and the world in general............a morass of cultural deprivity and selfless moral decline is measured in the apathey of the once creative soul of man by the powers to be that control major media outlets of that expression.............

That's your answer in a nutshell..........I shiver for where we are going..........

  69. C.... m....

Wow great piano solo, we are playing that piano riff as a trumpet feature in our show this year. 2010 POD

  70. O.... ....

I love Gino....I love this song....

  71. K.... C....

    good show

  72. h.... ....

    Magical and great music

  73. S.... S....

The Greatest Singer and Entertainer--That Lives!!!!!!!!

  74. T.... W....

Yea - all you guys are sooooo right! And when you consider the musical drivel that passes these days - it's just ridiculous.

  75. b.... ....

    B R I L L !!!!!!!!!!

listen closely & enjoy.....because we will never see the likes of this vocal style and musical prowess again....

  76. S.... D....

Joe Vanelli arranged this whole thing for keyboards. The solo at 1:14 is meant to sound like a trumpet. The 'trombone' guide tones on the bridge are all portamento ARP sounds.

What I love, is that they did this excercise (keyboards for real instruments) with an incredibly mature jazzy song. Joe and Gino both need to be given some credit. This is really tasty.

  77. H.... N....

    Killer electric piano riff
    Screaming Hammond
    Superb synth solo
    Insane drumming
    Delicious harmonies
    Wicked bass line
Gino's voice on top all that . .

Everything is SPOT ON . . What more could you ask for ? AND WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MUSIC AFTER THAT IF IT USED TO BE THAT GOOD ??

  78. H.... N....

    YEAAAAHHHH !!! Spot on !

  79. K.... M....

Yeah, that's why I looked this one up. The arrangement is actually better than the song, but this song is still pretty funky. I can get a sense of some things I want to bring out in an arrangement

  80. a.... ....

No strings (guitars or bass) in this band.

  81. M.... H....

i was 17 years old when i saw him in buffalo in 1974.. yikes!!!!! what a band! great tune

  82. M.... S....

James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes have done many times throughout the years a great arrangement of this tune!

  83. j.... ....

¡wow!¡great,Gino! easy friend are easy foes.....
