Van Zandt, Townes - She Came And She Touched Me Lyrics

She came and she touched me
With hands made of heaven
Reflections sent spinnin'
Through a face laced in mist
Now I stand where she left me
Buried deep 'neath her shadow
And the mirror pleads sadly
Has it all come to this?
And I wonder, will she call my name?

Well the wind careens madly
Through wide windows paneless
Fragrancies mingle
In a room full of shade
The peons pick partners
And waltz 'cross the ceilings
But the violins whisper
That I've been betrayed
Tryin' not to look ashamed

Well the drunkards drink deeply
From cups full of nothingness
Ghost lovers laugh
At the games that they play
While the moments do somersaults
Into eternity
Cling to their coattails
And beg them to stay
Saying I got nothing to hide

Well Illusions projected
On walls made of Tiffany
Mad minuets to
A sad satin song
A harlequin mandolins
Harmonize helplessly
Hoping that endlessly
Won't last for long
Praying that their God ain't dying

Then I turn and I see her
In a dress made of moonlight
Teardrops like diamonds
Run slow down her face
And her arms surround me
Like chains made of velvet
And the demons fall faithfully
Into their place
And the river runs with jewels

Now the morning lies open
The night went quite quickly
Memory harmlessly
Fractures and fades
All the poets do push-ups
On carpets of rubber foam
Loudly they laugh
At some joke that's been made
And the wise men speak like fools

I feel like I'm so close and yet so far away from understanding the meaning behind these words

    J.... W....

Jeremy Walker that’s what makes this so beautiful. One of my all time favorite songs.

    J.... W....

One of mine too. I hope I never find out what the words are "supposed" to mean :p

    J.... W....

    Nice Tower Song reference ;)

    J.... W....

    JBeasy 56 baha I didn’t catch it

    J.... W....

Hot Shit I'm not sure he even caught it, but that was the first thing I noticed. He must have been on a Townes binge before he posted that.

who's the best is TV talk/ everybody has favs. I like blue more than green

  13. b.... ....

this sounds like a bob dylan joint

    b.... ....

No it doesn't! Townes Van Zandt > Bob Dylan

    b.... ....

Why even compare? Townes was a legend in his own rights. Bob Dylan on the other hand was also a legend.

Edit: Not like I disagree with that statement though ;p

    b.... ....

You're thinking of Visions of Johanna. It also has alliteration.

    b.... ....

    bob dylan wishes

Bought Our mother the mountain in a Montreal vynil shop october 2010. Blown away by it. It's immaculate from start to finish.

  18. C.... T....

One of the greatest live albums....

  19. s.... ....

FYI on the lyrics it's "mad minuets to a sad sudden song" all the lyrics sites get this wrong. Thnaks for putting this up, incredible song!

  20. A.... P....

Hands down my favorite of his songs. "Hoping that endlessly won't be for long...."

  21. f.... ....

Townes was never better than that night in Houston at the Old Quarter.

    Brilliant!!

  22. C.... R....

    @dantean thank you!

  23. j.... ....

    Amazing!!

  24. b.... ....

I heard this song one day at work, with my head phones in, I must of listened to it 5 times in a row at least

  25. S.... M....

@bth2458 I'll happily talk about it. There are few better songs ever written by anyone anywhere at any time. Furthermore, the album from which the original recording of this song is derived, Our Mother the Mountain, is a better collection of songs than any ever recorded by ANYBODY. Dylan's greaest hits make up more than a few albums of incredibly great songs, but even ol' Bob himself never put together one album like Our Mother. How's that?

  26. D.... ....

    what a perfect song

  27. s.... ....

On a planet by himself and nobody is close to him , pure gold flawless perfection

  28. B.... H....

This is one of his songs that I never hear anybody talk about. One of his best. It's about nothing and everything, flawlessly delivered, hypnotically transcendent.

  29. f.... ....

    What a song - what a songwriter - what a man!
