Van Zandt, Townes - Be Here To Love Me Lyrics

Your eyes seek conclusion in all this confusion of mine
Though you and I both know it's only the warm glow of wine
That's got you to feeling this way,
but I don't care, I want you to stay
And hold me and tell me you'll be here to love me today

The children are dancin', the gamblers are chancin' their all
The window's accusing the door of abusing the wall

But who cares what the night watchmen say
The stage has been set for the play
So just hold me and tell me you'll be here to love me today

The moon's come and gone but a few stars hang on on to the sky
Well the wind's runnin' free though it ain't up to me ask why
But the poets are demanding their pay
And they've left me with nothin' to say
'cept hold me and tell me you'll be here to love me today
Just hold me and tell me you'll be here to love me today

Master of None brought me here too. Damn, I didnt know I liked country. Because of episode 6 I found this song and Johnny Cash's There You Go. I must now find more old country songs.

"Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that."

WHO ON EARTH WOULD DOWNVOTE THIS??? HBD, TVZ

I think if a thousand different singers all covered this song, not one could perform it with the pure and raw emotion that Townes' playing and singing expresses.

    J.... L....

I couldn't agree more. They say that an artist who writes and sings their own songs, usually does it best, mostly because they write it from the experience they're sharing or conveying in the song, which they've usually had. You can't write about it, if you haven't lived it. TVZ was that kind of singer/songwriter. His songs continually bring up emotions upon repeated listenings. Each time I hear one of his songs, it's like I hear something I've never heard before. Few songwriters can do this.

seriously what happened to country music, this makes me feel like im living on the ranch, on a nice sunny day, partly cloudy, sitting on my horse watching the cows graze through the fieids.

Master of none got me here

  15. J.... C....

  22. m.... ....

Love Townes music so much I asked my wife if we could name out 2nd son after him. That didn't happen.

    m.... ....

I named my son Jakob Townes

After Jakob Dylan (simply because I like the spelling, and he's the one i first saw use it) and Townes, obviously. He's got a big name to live up to. I might have been better off naming him "Sue" lol

  23. N.... C....

This record inspired me to ruin my life.

    N.... C....

    N.... C....

    Enviable.

  24. s.... ....

hehe no countrygal, i think my first comment gives away the answer to that one. reading it back tho the last line does sound kinda nice, townes must bring it out in me.

  25. s.... ....

fair play to you countrygal, norah jones has a great voice but there are very few with a voice as honest as townes and for me, thats where the beauty lies. his voice wavers, my heart pangs.

  26. s.... ....

    what the actual fuck mate?

  27. c.... ....

    go fuck yourself

  28. T.... C....

90% of what passes for commercial country music cannot hold a candle to the genius of the late, great Townes Van Zandt. His music will love forever.

  29. l.... ....

@countrygal1674 A small piece of my soul just died.

  30. A.... t....

Okay who has been practicing necromancy around here? =P

Says he's playing the Tractor Tavern on March 7, 2012 in the descriptor there, that would be one Hell of a feat. And, man, don't I bloody well wish it were so.

  31. G.... ....

    nobody touches me like Townes.

  32. t.... ....

I wish Townes was still around, a duet of this song with Norah Jones would be incredible! and just imagine Steve Earle and Townes Van zandt on tour together today, that would be too perfect
