Van Morrison - The Way Young Lovers Do Lyrics

We strolled through fields all wet with rain
And back along the lane again
There in the sunshine
In the sweet summertime
The way that young lovers do

I kissed you on the lips once more
And we said goodbye just adoring the nighttime
Yeah, that's the right time
To feel the way that young lovers do

Then we sat on our own star and dreamed of the way that we were
and the way that we were meant to be
Then we sat on our own star and dreamed of the way that I was for you
and you were for me
And then we danced the night away
And turned to each other, say, 'I love you, I love you'
The way that young lovers do

Do, do, do, do...

Then we sat on our star and dreamed of the way that we were and the way
that we wanted to be
Then we sat on our own star and dreamed of the way that I was for you
and you were for me
I went on to dance the night away
And turned to each other, say, 'I love you, baby, I love you'
The way that young lovers do, lovers do, lovers do

Do, do, do, do....

Van Morrison The Way Young Lovers Do Comments

Van Morrison is very much like Janis Joplin: so many of his songs are utterly timeless, but sometimes you get a track that is very much rooted in the era it was recorded. This really sounds like a track from the 60s - it's got that brass section you hear in T.V. theme tunes of the time like 'The Prisoner'. But it is utterly charming and so, so listenable. Beautiful track.

And we said goodbye at your front door
    In the night-time

And turning to each other, say, 'I love you. Baby, I love you'
The way that young lovers do, lovers do, lovers do
    Do, do, do, do...

Please stop remastering classic masterpieces and keep them dirty and smelly and fuzzy like they were meant to happen.

Every other review I read about this album makes mention of the fact that is seen as the 'weakest' song on the album. What a load of balls. Yes, it is very different but it is still majestic. I credit this song as the one that made me really sit up and take interest in Van Morrison in my mid-20s. A fabulous song.

    A.... W....

@Robert Henderson Would agree with that.

    A.... W....

Weakest?  This is one of the greatest tracks ever recorded

    A.... W....

@pa59 Absolutely one of Van's best! Great opening to "Afterwards" (side 2), great prelude to "Madame George", and great song, period. Greil Marcus singling this out as 'poor' shows that one can't take music criticism too seriously.

    A.... W....

    critics lol. obstacles, they are.

    A.... W....

it's my FAVE song of all time

Astral Weeks. Recorded over 2-3 days, and grumpy old Van wouldn't even talk to the musicians. But what incredible results. I've wandered up Hyndford Street in Belfast a number of times and wondered how out of place someone like Van must have felt when he was growing up. He was right to leave just before things exploded. Staying in the North at time could have ruined him. Weirdly, being brought up as a Jehovah's Witness, rather than the normative Catholic/Protestant axis in NI probably saved him. Being an outsider to that nonsense at that time must have been, in some ways, isolating, but also liberating. I think that outsider element may have allowed his genius to flourish in a way that, had he stayed in Belfast at that time, might have destroyed him, as it destroyed many. He was lucky to get out. The world has benefitted, thankfully. And how!!!

    H.... S....

To be fair the musicians where given a lot of freedom because of this. It allowed them to jam out.

  20. P.... M....

    un clasico

  21. A.... ....

I heard Jeff Buckley do a cover of this on acoustic guitar & I had to hear the original

  22. M.... Y....

I’d forgotten how wonderful this track is. The bass is amazing - I had always remembered that but I didn’t appreciate how the other instruments were also playing that absolutely insane off rhythm. This is brilliant.

    M.... Y....

    Richard Davis. What a musician.

  23. W.... B....

    Thanks Jeff.

    W.... B....

    Jeff who?

    W.... B....

    @Sam Houston Buckley

  24. o.... ....

Although I have always felt "Moondance" is his best overall album & my personal favorite... this album is definitely my 2nd favorite by him for sure...

  25. E.... W....

I am JUST discovering this album and so far Astral Weeks and Sweet Thing are my favorites but this is up there with them- I am surprised that there aren't as many comments on this one- it is amazing too! I feel like I am totally transported to the best summer day of my life and I am in love and swimming in a river with friends and the weather is perfect...

    E.... W....

It completely sounds like Summer. I listen to it every year at this time.

    E.... W....

    The imagery is pure magic.

    E.... W....

The nighttime... yeah, that’s the right time. Astral Weeks’s immortality lies in how it captures everyone’s experience with their first lover.

  26. T.... D....

That bass man is incredible..Ive been in that young lovers' world before..Van Morrison captured it for me..tears from time to time..passionate love

    T.... D....

Richard Davies, he's incredible isn't he on here.

    T.... D....

@David Jordan Actually, Percy Heath was the bassist of the MJQ. (And Ray Brown, briefly.) Richard Davis played with just about everyone else, though.

  27. 3.... ....

    One of personal favorites

  28. R.... S....
